  7. I found the crowd meter in 94, BUT, it's not always there. It's missing it about 20% of the games. I couldn't figure out why. http://nhl94.com/forum/index.php?s=&sh...post&p=4869
  8. Cr0ssbar's the only guy I've seen who's made the pass shot a precision weapon rather than a desperation move.

  11. I've timed my Sega before -- a 5-minute period in the game takes 2 minutes of real time.
  12. 40-ish is good I like the regular season. If we have a problem with players slacking off in the regular season, then maybe we can spot the top-seeded teams a game in the first round of the playoffs (since home ice advantage isn't an advantage), so the higher-ranked team only needs to win 3 games while the lower-ranked team needs to win 4 (the more I think about this idea.. the more I like it).
  13. I'm not too worried about having a few so-so skaters in my starting lineup. My big worry is getting stuck with a terrible goalie. Personally, I think the goalies should be averaged out a little. Belfour and Roy are SO much better than any of the other goalies, then there are a few semi-tough goalies (fuhr, potvin..), then the rest are incredibly weak and can be beaten with floaters from the hash marks 50% of the time. I'd say take a couple points off of Belfour's and Roy's stats to bring them down to about 90 and bump up all those terrible 45-65 goalies into the 70s so they can make a save or two once in a while (hrudey, beaupre, healy, vanbiesbrouk..). In dmitry's original stats league, the goalies were all around 80-95. I thought that was great. We have a lot of good players in the league -- why do we still play with useless goalies that were only in the game so that Jimmy-8-year-old could score a few goals and not get frustrated with his Sega?
  14. I'll take DAL, EDM, or WPG (in that order), if available
  15. For those who don't know.. In 1989, Clint Malarchuk, goalie for the Sabres at the time, had his throat sliced open during a game vs the Blues. Here's the video. Don't watch it if you don't like the sight of blood.
  16. These stats are from a league a friend and I are doing. We each play with all the teams. These stats are from 15 or 16 games for each team. Best Checking Teams: Team Checks-per-game (5 minute periods) BOS 42.7 VAN 41.3 CHI 40.4 CGY 40.2 NJ 37.9 NYR 37.7 HFD 37.4 ANH 36.7 PIT 36.6 LA 36.6 SJ 36.1 MTL 35.9 DET 35.8 TB 35.3 BUF 34.9 TOR 34.2 WSH 34.1 PHI 34 NYI 33.5 OTW 33.1 FLA 33.1 DAL 32.9 EDM 32.8 QUE 32.7 WPG 32.7 STL 32.5 Weakest teams: Team Checks-against-per-game (5 minute periods) PIT 41.4 WSH 40.9 STL 40.3 ANH 40.1 NYI 38 EDM 37.7 WPG 37.1 NYR 37 NJ 36.5 OTW 36.1 VAN 35.8 CHI 35.6 QUE 35.5 TOR 35.1 FLA 35 HFD 34.8 MTL 34.5 DAL 34.5 SJ 34.4 BOS 34.3 TB 34.3 BUF 34 LA 33.2 PHI 32.9 DET 31.5 CGY 31.4 note: default lineups are not always used. for example, Anderson replaces Andreychuk on the leafs..
  17. The checking rating increases the likelihood that a player under AI control will dish out a bodycheck. Watch Ray Bourque (99 checking) when playing against him. He will knock you and your teammates around a lot; it's hilarious. I'm running a little sega nhl94 league with stats recording, and Boston is the highest-hitting team, even though their players are pretty heavy (Bourque, Oates, Neely..) -- I think Bourque is making up the difference when he is controlled by the AI. I tried to find the code in the ROM that created this bug, in order to fix it, but I couldn't find it. Instead, I made a ROM with the weights reversed. It was pretty fun.. it's a very different game, because the defencemen can actually hit! You have to pass more in order to get scoring chances. EDIT: I have fixed the weight bug! Lower Weight = better hitting and better acceleration, so flipping the weights is not a perfect solution to the bug, since heavy guys become quick guys in addition to good hitters.
  18. Indeed, especially when all the ones who haven't voted are the ones who would vote for me.
  19. There is a very fast codec called Huffyuv: http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley.edu/benrg/huffyuv.html It only compresses about 50-60%, but it takes minimal CPU time and is completely lossless. You can then compress to high quality divx (or xvid or...) and it'll look great. See also the 3rd post on this page for a patch that adds keyframe detection or something like that: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76396 I don't think this patch will make much difference when compressing nhl94, though, since the screen stays the same most of the time.

  21. I guess that could be done in Excel, by writing some macros
  22. I made a simple one a while ago using ASP pages and an MS Access database.
  23. It's a good idea for both players to try to save the game at the end of the game, in case the other player forgot. If both players forget to save the game, then they have to re-play it. When I played in dmitry's league, there were a few times when I forgot to save the game, but the other guy remembered. In the case of a disconnection, you'd have to restart the game, allow goals to make the game the same score from before the disconnection, then play from there. I'm not crazy about a 10-12 team league, either. If there aren't many teams, the season will be pretty short, just to prove the 'successfulness' of the league and hopefully attract more players for the next season. I've been in a small league before, and playing the same guy 8 times isn't all that fun. An interesting idea, but I think it would make the players all too similar. One of the fun things about NHL94 is how the players have so much personality, and player weight has a lot to do with that.
