  1. HABS not playing classic this year ( ) , but I hope he does his awesome Vegas odds.
  2. Unofficially (depends on how halifax/chaos sort the leagues out) I say you have a 25% chance of landing Detroit, and if you don't land Detroit you will have 100% chance of LA.
  3. I really like the idea of using different ROMs each season!
  4. According to this survey (link), it seems more people prefer going up vs down, so this has some merit. However, we don't really know if people who prefer going up/down actually do better (better GFA and GAA) do better in those periods or not. I somehow doubt this is this is true though.
  5. Not sure about '93, but in '94 there is a definite home ice advantage. The game actually gives bonuses to player attributes for home ice advantage. I don't know the specifics (maybe smozoma can elaborate). Statistically, every home record in every league (at least classic, blitz & survivor) is better than the road record. I would guess the same would be true for '93, given the close similarities of the two versions.
  6. I had a lot of fun setting up and running this league and I've gotten some positive feedback from you, which is great! As the inaugural regular season is about to wrap up, I'd like to start this thread where you can post your thoughts, comments, and suggestions to use in future Survivor leagues. Even if you thought everything was great, feel free to say so! Some initial ideas that may spark a reaction: * Allow all 26 teams to be chosen. Each person can choose the mix that they prefer. Still 1 home and 1 away max. * OR, reduce the number teams and allow 2 home games and 2 away games (i.e. 9 teams with 2H/2A instead of 18 teams with 1H/1A) * Stricter penalties for DNPs (negative points) * Some inter-division games (currently all games are scheduled in same division) * Different ROM? Weight bug fixed, Goalie button hack, etc. Your feedback is appreciated!
  7. REGULAR SEASON ENDS 3/18 (one week)!!! REMAINING SCHEDULE 3/11 (current) - 32 GP 3/18 - 36 GP (end of regular season) ----------------------- 3/25 - Conference Quarters 4/1 - Conference Semis 4/8 - Conference Championship 4/15 - Stanley Cup ----------------------- Looking at the rules I came up with, DNP's will count as 0-0 ties, with no points awarded. This also means no points are taken away...standings and playoff seedings will be based on points, with the GFA - GAA tiebreaker. The season ends this Sunday, and you won't be able to enter any more games after that. I will announce the results and playoffs can begin immediately. You know what you have to do! For the playoffs, there will be a 1 series per week policy. You should get your series in the span of one week, OR, you must post on the forums if there's going to be a delay. More details on that next week. As a reminder, top 7 teams from the division make the playoffs and there will be no re-seeding. 1 vs bye (plays winner of 4/5) 2 vs 7 (plays winner of 3/6) 3 vs 6 (plays winner of 2/7) 4 vs 5 (plays 1) Stanley cup will be the East Champion vs West Champion. Good luck to you all in this final week!
  8. HOLY smokes! Sorry VC, really. I feel like the guy who accidentally spills a drink all over the poker table and ruins the game.
  9. I don't know where the other thread is (and too lazy to look), but regarding rosters after 98: I'm going to try and find the rosters/ratings for '99 onward and normalize them to the way 94-98 ratings were done. I'll spare you the details of how. But if I do this and we test them out, we should be able to continue this league past 98, if all goes well. As mentioned, the ratings in the future games are more juiced than 94-98. I found the rosters for 2000 and compared how the ratio of 1-6 ratings given to players compared to the '94-98 average. Check this out: You can see the ratio in 2000 for ratings 3,4,5 skyrocket compared to '94-98 average. This is true in all attributes, I just posted 4 for your knowledge. These happen to be all forwards attributes. The % is the % of all forwards who have that rating for that attribute (i.e. 8.01% of players have a 5 speed rating in 94-98, vs 38.18% in 2000) This is nothing new to some of you, but I still thought it was fun to show.
  10. Hey, posted on the other thread that I can't commit to SDL this season, too many simultaneous leagues starting. Sorry fellas. Perhaps a replacement if needed later in the season...
  11. Sad to see Dan not being able to play in leagues. With Classic, Blitz, Survivor, 2vs2, and Dynasty, I don't want to over commit to SDL and not be able to keep up. Perhaps as a replacement later, or season 3 if a spot opens up...your league is great and it would be a privilege to join, I just can't do it now.
  12. I wish I could claim it was on purpose...it was a complete mistake!
  13. If not, just give me the current NYR team and logo.
  14. I'll take the Albany River Rats Let me know if you need anything else...
  15. I like the idea, but I understand its more of a limitation to the Canadian coaches than US. Maybe the Canada votes should be weighed 1.5x or something. (i.e. 2 Canada votes = 3 US votes)
  16. According to an attribute survey to the community, the least 3 valuable attributes were (1 - Least Important, 5 Most Important): Forwards: 1. Checking 1.25 2. Def Awareness 1.5 3. Off Awareness 2.63 Defense: 1. Off Awareness 1.25 2. Checking - 1.88 3. Shot Accuracy - 2.13 Check the link for the full results. I think most people (including me) ASSUME that high Off Awareness means your players will set themselves up for one-timers, etc. better, but I haven't seen anything proving that.
  17. These TV contracts are really spacing out these games!
  18. Would anyone happen to have handy, or show me where to find, the '99,'00,'01...etc. ratings/rosters in the same format that VC posted (i.e. the '94 roster export/import tool)? EDIT: Or the NHL'94 ROMs with those updates (I can extract the rosters) As smoz suggested, if we can normalize the ratings so that they remain similar to the '94-98 series, this dynasty league can continue onward (Note: this is my assumption, I have not cleared with VC). I started putting something together and I have an idea on how to normalize the years fairly quickly...I'll share with you guys whatever I find.
  19. 2 WEEKS LEFT IN THE REGULAR SEASON! Great job fellas, we are at 24.5 GP, right on track of the schedule. With only two weeks left in the regular season, the playoff picture is starting to flesh out. In the East, KingRaph is sitting on top, finishing with a 28-8 record in the regular season. The only other person in the East who can win the division (and the coveted bye week) is Freydey, who is at 19-5. Frey has to go 10-2 in his last 12 to win outright, and 9 wins will tie KingRaph for points, leaving GFA-GAA as the tiebreaker. On the other end, dcicon (9-13), nhl94dan (9-10), and LA Robbie (8-20) are all fighting for that last playoff spot. RWD (12-8) is also lingering around, but a lot can change as the remaining games get played. Wookie, Smozoma & PRoBob should all be in the playoffs, it just depends on where they finish in seeding. In the West Division, Houli is in the lead with a 19-13 record, with his last 4 games against Carse. Carse, btw, has burst on to the scene and played an additional 8 games since last week, and has amassed an 11-1 record. If he continues that pace, he will end up winning this division. However, IceStorm (13-3 and GENS 2012 "A" champion)and BoKnows (14-6 and Current SDL Season 1 Champion) each have impressive records as well, so this division is really up for grabs at the moment. Carse/BoKnows/IceStorm all have their 4 games to play against each other. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. There are really a lot of scenarios that can happen here, so I can't say for sure who is in or out! Special shout-out to Kupuck, for being the first in Survivor to complete his season (18-18)! .500 should get you in the playoffs, where anything can happen. REMAINING SCHEDULE 3/4 (current) - 26 GP 3/11 - 32 GP 3/18 - 36 GP (end of regular season) ----------------------- 3/25 - Conference Quarters 4/1 - Conference Semis 4/8 - Conference Championship 4/15 - Stanley Cup
  20. I've already confirmed you bud, but get exhibs as Wookie suggested.
  21. I guess the best thing to do is create a formula based on prior year stats that can generate ratings similar to 94-98. In theory you can apply that to all future years. I vaguely remember someone trying that at one point...have to search. I may take a stab if not.
