  1. YES! In all seriousness, this is an amazing analysis. Maybe we team up? If we can each muster up a quarter effort then combined we get a half-assed attempt at looking into this. Sounds promising. I'll PM you.
  2. Smoz, I regret to inform you that I am filing a lawsuit against you for making me wait. That's the world we live in here in retro gaming bud.

Welcome! Here is a quick video of how to get started playing NHL'94 on your computer (for Sega Genesis, but it's basically the same for SNES) We also just started using Retroarch, and the setup guide is here: http://www.nhl94online.com/html/getting-started.php Hope that helps! Once you're up and running, let us know how it's going!
  4. There is a pretty active Russian league, they pop in on Discord all the time.
  5. Whoops.....saw #1 and #2 seed and didn't even notice. Will correct
  6. Good points @smozoma, I enjoy using graphics from the game and whipped this up. I like the scoreboard concept, but I am sure I can enlarge the actual game screen and rearrange a few things quickly.
  7. This is a heads up that Annatar and Bob K have played their series and recorded the videos. I have the videos and plan to do a livestream commentary as I watch them (I have not watched anything). Only issue is I don't know EXACTLY when as I need anywhere from 45min to an hour and a half where I am free to yell into a mic and be uninterrupted. I'll find a window and try to give people a heads up so they can watch together live. I will also record anyway, and post on YouTube. Looking forward to trying this for the first time, hopefully it's fun. Just know I'm working on it, and don't bug @annatar or @Bob Kudelski, they played!
  8. Funny, I just started a hack to see if I can bring in a MLH rink and crowd to '94. It's definitely possible, just takes time. The crowd size is larger in MHL than '94, and the crowd moves in '94 and doesn't in MLH. Also, the crowd in '94 is the same color, but MLH changes based on the home team palette. The away team is always the same color! Sorry, just spitting out things that I have uncovered as I started this hack, I will likely start a thread on the whole thing and progress. Hacking sprites requires TONS of time. If you think about it, you have to redraw every single tile of every animation for every situation. There are hundreds (thousands?) and it's not laid out cleanly. As far as hacking the MLH game, not sure there is enough interest or need. I think all the animations in the game is what causes that framerate to suffer and while it may have the same "engine", it plays completely different. I'll be happy to post whatever I found in MLH for others to use in the future.
  9. It's in the first post of this thread. Seems to be working?
  10. Looks like the tournament is Thursday, March 28th. $57 entry to the Pax Expo. Leggo @skip, bring this puppy home! @kupuck19? @JackVandal?
  11. I agree with smoz, but it's been a while since I played a WBF or Blitz ROM. Pre-CB era. Biggest difference I remember was using heavy guys like Neely, Messier, Lindros, etc, which lent itself to an overall slower game.
  12. This is great work! I appreciate you posting your tests and results in such a clear and well written post. The weight makes total sense, and remember, the weight bug only applies to human-controlled players. So when the CPU controls the checking player, the heavier weight will be more effective. It's a win-win for what you're looking for. I like the notes on Aggression. I would love to see a classic like league where we put everyone's aggression down to zero. Then we can see over a many games if there are fewer penalties called overall.
  13. Our good buds at the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo have donated two admission tickets that we will raffle off during the event. Awesome! Side note, we also host a tournament there for the last 3 years. 2019 will be our 4th year in a row, more to come on that later. https://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/forum/246-long-island-retro-expo-nhl94-tournament/
  14. I promise should I have the opportunity to do commentary again next time that I'll speak LOUDER. I realize after re-watch that being louder is more preferable than not. That was a sweet setup that Trojan had. The mics only pick up the voice, not much past that and if you scream it's not distorted. Also, having headphones on let's you hear yourself. All new to me! AJ is tremendous on the play by play, he has a quick mind and is able to make commentary flow nicely. What a blast that was for me. Just piling on here that Trojan is also flat out amazing on the mic. It's not only the pipes , but since immersing himself in the community for a few years now, it's impressive to hear his analysis of the game on top of play by play. I heard Green Magik ask about Dallas and Trojan responded about the speed and lack of shot accuracy. He also calls out certain moves and plays that led to a goal or clutch defense that would otherwise be missed by the casual observer. Worth an additional shout out! Finally, special thanks to Mort! The Tecmo legend really held his own doing commentary on the Retro Sports Gamer channel! I only caught a bit (MikeG vs AJ), but he kept up the energy level even after many hours. Cool to see someone like that really getting into the '94 gaming scene. I am inspired to sharpen my own Tecmo game after that too.
  15. Here's a link to the Round Robin spreadsheet - LI Retro Gamesheet - 2018 Round Robin It's made for efficiency, so no teams listed in the matchups. 3 game round robin played in your group. Top 2 in group advance. 32 players, 8 groups of 4. 16 advance. Seeds based on wins, and goal differential.
  16. Finals ( @corbettkb vs @MikeGartner22 ): Semi-Finals ( @skoolyardpuck vs @corbettkb ):
  17. Smoz - I added the 2017 Retro Expo Semis and Finals videos in your op. This also reminds me to cut and upload the semis and finals from the previous LI tournies. I have them at home and will get them uploaded soon. Great thread that I forgot about. Gotta find those Vegas vids! Anything from Vancouver?
  18. It's nice to know that the shot that hit the post in OT in game 02 of the SNES finals ended up costing me $117 But seriously, another great, well-run tournament put on by Troy. I don't even know how many setups you had, but there was never a wait for a game. Great venue, close affordable hotels, food options, pizza, $2 endless soda, two live streams, commentary, raffles, big display, etc. Looking forward to seeing the results data if you share it. The tier system, I think, lent itself to a concentration of matchups and specific team focus. Also a special shout out to @angryjay93, so much I have already said about him in the past, but it's really something special to be able play him in the finals multiple times now. And we got to do commentary for a Troy/EA series that ended up being a ton of fun for me. Would love to do that more in the future! Cheers to all!
  19. Given its in the Sega forums, that would be the record!
