  2. Really, a pretty obvious choice.\ Congrats @slapshot67 on solving the seemingly impossible task of expanding this retro game beyond it's intended limits!
  3. Come'on plabs, do not speak of what you do not know. Live games without question produce the best results. JeffBC is taking it over the top IMO (Adam lost a 1 goal game for the money).
  4. Do you have the app installed on another machine, the one that you want to control remotely?
  5. Just an idea, if you cannot afford a Windows machine. If you know someone else who has a Windows machine (even an older one, back to Windows 7), you can connect with Chrome Remote Desktop and do all of your modding/editting work on their PC. Get a Dropbox/Google Drive/Box account and set-up a folder with all of your roms/editors/utilities etc. Install the program on both machines so that you always have an updated folder on both machines. Install Chrome Remote Desktop on both machines. Now you can log onto the Windows machine remotely (when nobody else is using it), and open NOSE, or hex editor on the Windows machine and all saves/mods will be available on both machines. Make sense?
  6. Can we post a 32 team rom template somewhere - one without WBF or any other enhancements?

  8. Let this image burn into your mind...
  9. I think troubleshooting NOSE is definitely the better alternative. Making these simple hacks in NOSE is the way to go.
  10. On the Sega side, I always thought it would be fun to have a mini live draft tournament. With a laptop and an Everdrive, you could create the teams as they are selected. Would need multiple Everdrives to play on more than one console however.
  11. Please pay no mind - this is simply a draft for a year-end edition of the newsletter. Though - since you're here and reading, if you have any comments or ideas, this would be the place to share them.
  12. [DRAFT] View From the Booth v.2 Dec 31, 2017 Welcome to the year-end edition of the official NHL94.com newsletter. We hope to keep everyone informed of all that is happening in our gaming scene, with a top-down look at events, leagues, forum happenings and Discord chatter. The view from the broadcast booth is often worse than some cheap seats in the arena, but journalists require a sweeping vantage point to see everything that is happening in the game. It seemed a suitable name for a newsletter that hopes to provide a bird's eye view of NHL94 and all of it's retro hockey siblings, so take a minute to get caught up with this edition of View From the Booth . Congratulations to 2017 Bud of the Year@slapshot67! [Forum thread] He managed to code a 32-team Genesis rom that allowed the community to create updated 2017-18 post-expansion roms. I took this opportunity to ask Mr. Shot67 a few questions. It turns out that Slapshot is not his real name, he's actually a fine Canadian fellow from Saskatchewan named Shawn. He would rank himself as an average NHL94 player, who has little interest in online leagues, preferring instead to play at home with friends. He's been a member of NHL94.com since 2006, but admits to lurking around these parts for about a year before joining and searching out modding resources on the forums. A love of NHL93 and NHL94 convinced him to join the site, mainly with interest in creating classic teams in the rom. As would any youngster, he admits to trying to take the easy road first, writing a letter to EA Sports asking them to do it, but oddly never received a response. He praises @wboy's NOSE program, as well as resident mad scientists modders @mack and @smozoma for helping to earn his modding badges, but credits a lot of reading and ultimately trial and error for his modding successes. I did ask if NHL titles were his only mods, and he detailed an earlier attempt to mod the NES title Rad Racer back in 1999. He jumped at the opportunity to help create the 32-team rom, and would rank this mod at the top of his list of accomplishments. He works as a freelance web and graphical designer in Saskatoon, and is taking a break from modding for the time being. A big thanks to Bud of the Year @slapshot67 for taking the time to chat, and for ushering our draft leagues into the next NHL era. 2017 has been a mixed bag of good/bad in the NHL94 community, with great successes (Kingof94II - Vegas, expansion of the classic Genesis rom to 32 teams, to name a couple) and some downers too (shrinking numbers of regular leaguers, the usual forum drama). I feel like 2018 could be a bounce-back year, with many members working hard to expose the casual gamers to this community on many social platforms, new live events popping up all over the country, and unique new league ideas popping up to keep the online leaguers busy looking for games. We've met some new talented players in this years Classic, some who have already shown interest in draft leagues, but would love to see some vets crawl back out of their caves and rejoin the scene. As gaming companies continue to milk the many millions of gamers out there with microtransactions and pay-to-play models - the retro gaming community grins with tens of thousands of hours of playable titles and sports gems with incredible replay value. In short, I don't think that the Retro Gaming scene is just for the nostalgic, nor will it be a passing fad. The next generation of gamers needs to witness the sheer amount of existing gaming content out there, and should take that into consideration before feeding the massive pay-to-play, or ad-supported game companies. 13. Boy, if Ice thinks he is burnt out now - wait until he has to play 16 games in one night.
  14. What was the hack? Perhaps you changed something you shouldn't have.
  15. Singing telegram at work it is! (and I don't think Coach is hoping to thank you for just his leagues)
  16. I have another idea for a Story-Mode Vancouver that would start from a save-state 3-1 Rangers series lead - to see if the Canucks could finish them off. (Could go back to the opening round vs Calgary in a 3-1 hole to start as well).
  17. I've set the rom up for game 1(Visitor @ PHI) - you'd have to select your home games for the rest.
  18. Version history: v1 (changed playoff bracket, changed main menu) Things to change in future versions: Splash Screen Scoreboard? Weight-Bug Fix? Rosters (to better reflect the actual team)? Rom versions: NHL94-StoryMode(FLA-v.1).bin
  19. Been thinking about this for a while, and wondered if there would be any interest in it? The premise is to make a special "Story Mode" rom to be played solo. The rom would be upgraded in order to play out the story. My first edition (again, if there is interest) would be the 1993-94 Florida Panthers edition. The Panthers were 2 pts out of a play-off spot in their expansion year, which sounds great for an expansion franchise - but they were in a play-off race with the Islanders until the final days of the season. An 8 game winless streak killed their chances at a play-off berth. In Story Mode, a player would try to win-out the final 4 games of the season (@PHI, vsNJ, vsQUE, vsNYI) and progress into a playoff bracket where they would face the Rangers in the first round. If you like the idea - or better yet decide to give it a go - post your thoughts or results in this thread.
  20. You've got great splash screens Coach, each one unique and really well done.
  21. Love ya Coach. I wasn't thinking about the pause so much as I might be cutting the music short to get back to the face-off after a goal, because I can't tell when the music ends. As for actual time-outs - I am of the camp that believes a time-out actually resets momentum in a game. If I've just had 2 or 3 goals scored on me in quick succession - I know that for the rest of the period, my guys will be running around full fire-alarm, and that winning a face-off will become an impossible feat. A timeout (beyond giving the coach a reset) more often than not can give you the next face-off, and an opportunity to hold onto the puck for a bit. If I can say anything about changing player numbers - it's that there should be a hard/fast rule, no negotiating. In fact, maybe there should be a way to show that a common player has had his number changed in game. It would be cool if you could add a star, or an x to the players number on screen. s**t, could you ditch numbers for initials - or 3-4 letter acronyms? (Not asking for these roms to be changed, just wondering if it is possible). Great stuff coach.
  22. If I've cut the music short during any online games, it's probably because I have the sound turned off. I like to play to my own music, no offence to those that work so hard changing it. Truth be told, goals could be signalled by fart noises, and the crowd could be chanting "go Coach go", and I wouldn't know it.
  23. Have a look at an Everdrive: https://krikzz.com/store/home/13-super-everdrive-v2.html and have as many custom NHL94 roms as you'd like. Not to mention any other SNES roms you might own.
  24. Playoff games/highlights with Brutus/Coach in the booth.
  25. How hard would it be to just do a port of the updated Sega ratings for the SNES?
