  1. When the score is something like 10-2 in the second period.. seriously, lighten up. When you play shinny with your little brother, do you embarrass him with every move you know? Give the guy the a chance to learn. Take him out when he does something really bad, but let other things slide a bit. Practice moves that are harder for you to pull off, like Gretzky-esque one-timer passes from behind the net. When pro NHLers hold training camps with 12-year olds, do they take their hardest slapshots and use their best moves and saves? Make your moves a little less perfect than usual so the guy has a chance to learn how to counter them. If everything he does fails, he won't know what to do in order to be better. People need that positive reinforcement. If you're playing a guy roughly at the same level as you and you have a good game and the score gets crazy, sure, light it up -- the next game will likely be closer. But when you know the guy is completely outmatched, there's no reason to run up the score. No one gains anything from it (unless you're insecure and need to win 14-3 to feel good about yourself. Or you want to scare the guy off so he never plays you again). And the idea that it's about 'commitment' is specious. Things are a little different when it comes to competitive leagues (vs exhibition games), since GF/GA difference can be important, but still, if you're winning 10-2, you're probably doing well enough in the league that a few goals isn't going to make much of a difference.
  2. Vdub leaves no watermarks. I don't think it does screen capture, though... You can capture from an external source (TV tuner, video in line.. ) but, as far as I know, not from the screen.
  3. For AVI video compression, grab the Xvid or Divx codecs (google 'em). x264 could be good, too...
  4. Haha, awesome. Yes, Hrudey is the ghost goalie. You barely know he's there, as evidenced in this game: http://mcapewell.servehttp.com/nhl94/boxscore.asp?gameid=117
  5. Somewhere on the forums there is a version of Gens that can record to AVI. Once you have the AVI files, they can be edited with VirtualDub. When making AVI files, always remember to compress the audio to MP3 when done, or your files will be huge (raw audio is around 10x bigger than mp3).
  6. The 'pokecheck' is actually just a trip, so, really, I think it's good that sometimes it screws a player over and results in a goal. It's a ridiculously powerful move that lets any player take out any other player...
  7. Dallas.. eeehhhxcellent. Except, did I actually pick Dallas ahead of Toronto (who weren't picked)? I remember in the last season, there seemed to be something wrong with my pick of Toronto: I got an earlier team pick than the guy who ended up with Toronto, and I know for sure I put Toronto ahead of the Rangers! I'm beginning to suspect some sort of bug in the system. Or that I'm not using the form properly.
  8. Is this the official jersey? I thought the leafs ones weren't coming out until the 12th..
  9. http://forums.smirkinchicken.com/thread.ph...1&pagenum=1 There are some pictures there, including Boston (very nice, old style. tieup lace at the neck) Carolina (video game render??) Columbus (the white one is very.. white) LA (fairly traditional with the elbow stripe/ring and shoulder colour. Says "Los Angeles" at the bottom of the front in case anyone gets confused) Nashville (not quite right.. looks more like a football jersey to me?) Islanders (page 1: prototype, might not be the final version. page 3: final version? also has tieup neck) Pittsburgh (meh) Washington (neat) Florida (gah!) page 3 Ottawa (shudder... needs some stripes or shoulder colour) page 4 Say what you want about the jerseys.. at least they aren't plastered with ads like in European leagues.
  10. Yeah, those are pretty strange. Do they not do test groups or anything? The logo needs to shrink to be in the right proportion with the text... Not that the text should be there in the first place.
  11. Top 10 D from a league just me a buddy play in (we play as all the teams, against each other) If you noticed that they're all kind of clumped together around 70-90.. it's because line changes are off, and 3x26 = 78. Very few D outscore even the least-productive forwards. You should have seen Doug Wilson's goal at the end of a recent game we played! I took him end-to-end, then my friend checked him over just as he was deking out Roy.. and the puck slid in just out of reach of Roy's pads with 12 seconds to go in the game! Short-handed, no less. 2-1 win for SJ. http://mcapewell.servehttp.com/nhl94/boxscore.asp?gameid=200 It'll probably show up in my next NHL94 youtube video. Wilson is really only up there because the rest of the team is so incompetent, that I often just take him up and slapshot it.
  12. Berthiaume is definitely way better than Sidorkiewicz. I get way better performances from Richter than Vanbiesbrouk (NYR).
  13. You know you can like.. resize pictures so they don't take forever to download, right? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/d...eschelman2.mspx
  14. not interested myself, but i think you should make a goalie win worth 2 points or something like that.. otherwise goalies suck. 2 for a win, 1 for an OT loss, 0 or -1 for a loss? +1 or +2 pts for a shutout.
  15. What I find distracting about the SNES sounds is that, though they mostly sound better, they don't fit in/together as smoothly. The post is definitely the sound I notice the most as being 'off.' On the Sega, you get a nice PING! but on the SNES, you get a Clunk, which isn't right.
  16. I have not noticed this. It may depend on your computer, but anything less than 4-5 years old should be perfectly fine. If you are sure this is happening, then try changing the sampling rate in gens, instead of just turning it off: Sound->Rate->11025 There are some other options in there that you could play with (stereo, high quality, etc..), but I don't know which ones will have any real effect.
  17. Oh, I don't remember the sounds in the post-94 16-bit games, actually. I was talking about the newer xbox/ps games. Even when you crank the hitting power, you rarely knock a guy over. They really need to add an "old school" mode.
  18. The sounds are an integral part of the nhl94 experience! Playing without them is BLASPHEMY! The successful check grunt noise is by far my favourite ("BLOOARRGHH!").. The new games sound so boring with their wimpy "oh, sorry good sir" checks. PS: you really should shrink the font on your "If you wanna play im me" signature. It's obnoxiously large. I'm tryin'ta read here!
  19. I wonder if a bunch of them are just waiting for an email telling them when their confirmation game is...
  20. You seriously need to tone down that signature. I have a Logitech P880. Cheap, but works fine. ~30$ Canadian. Only downside is that it only has 1 shoulder/trigger button on each side.
  21. Cool, I wasn't sure if that one was still around.
  22. http://macks-hacks.com/home.htm Check the downloads page for "DOWNLOAD NHL 94 GENESIS [v.2007]"
  23. I had a similar problem with my Logitech P880, but I found a fix: There is a "Digital" button on mine -- if I hit it once so it lights up, then the D-pad works instead of the analog stick. Hopefully something similar can be done on your controller.
