  1. SNES has advantages, too. it also seems to have boosts that can't be explained, like a 42-speed-rated guy zooming around like Seguin. I set my ROMs to reduce the advantages as much as possible, but the boosts are still obvious.
  2. uh-huh. keep pushing that agenda. they'll believe you eventually.
  3. that's interesting. we all know that you are a drama queen and a troll. you aren't here for the fun of gaming, you are here to bicker with other members and to mock them whenever possible. you love to compare anybody/everybody to those you currently think are elite. your profile is composed of mocking other members. you seem to have emotional problems and a general lack of civility. the preteens we have around here each have you beat in maturity. you seem to need an intervention. good luck with all of that.
  4. I've been considering a more formulaic method of generating pass/shoot bias ratings. (I used to just generally consider position, assists and shots and pick something that seemed right.) I've thought about shots divided by time on ice, but I figure it might skew certain positions. I have yet to crunch any trial numbers to see where I'd likely draw lines. if you have any thoughts, please share them.
  5. yep. a typo. thanks for the heads up. I'll fix it.
  6. this is easily one of the worst threads in the site's history, but I got a kick out of "Harold and Kumar go to Andrew Cassels," which I figure needs an apostrophe at the end, but works without it, too. I hate you all.
  7. work on an update is well underway. I would love it if somebody wanted to help expand the ANA/FLA rosters, as I have yet to figure that out. I've been considering tweeking the nets to make them appear to be thinner. I'd probably just reduce the thickness of the top part that the water bottle sits on. does anybody care if the five-minute major penalties get bumped down to four? anybody feel like putting in the work to find out if we can show the generic logo -- or no logo -- for the ice in outdated cities? I'm always looking for betatesters to review roster details and ratings. please let me know if you'd like to assist in any way with anything we can/should do.
  8. that brings up a good point: it's infuriatingly hard to find old topics around here. it's easy to search the last year or two of posts, but this community is a vast resource with a terrible search restriction parameter set.
  9. the trade deadline is 3/5/14. major ratings/rosters/lines work will happen around then. now is the time to work out other stuff. I'm considering changing the major penalties into double minors. what else can/should I/we do? hop over the boards. let's do this thing.
  10. yeah, that was disappointing in many ways, but nothing compares to the guy who claimed in the comments to have played a perfect whole "season" of '94 only to miss the playoffs.
  11. if it was weighted within the team, that would be better, but I imagine it's league wide. am I right?
  12. I used leaguewide and in-team skills contests to determine some shot power and speed ratings near the top (Chara's shot power at 100, a couple of guys who competed but fell short of 100 MPH at 85; similar pulls from timed skating races), but mostly relied on reports from people that were confident ranking their favorite teams. the key there was finding common ground between teams, which involved some guesswork. I use awareness to boost guys with low skills in the other statistical categories that seem to dominate anyway. I used them in reverse to keep the lazy players like Alex "controller disconnected" Ovechkin from being 100s overall due to their underused skills that otherwise overwhelm the overall rating. checking stats are kept by the venue staff at each rink, so that's a tough way to compile what you'd need, so there's another wildcard rating. agility needs that opinion action that experts/fans can help you to identify, but it takes persistence and a membership at a popular hockey messageboard of which you'd be willing to risk suspension through aggressive data collection; hfboards helped me tremendously when I started my first major hacking project which involved (almost) the full league. I asked for agility, speed, stick/puck control ratings of 0-5, asking that almost all professional hockey players receive ratings in the 2-5 range. let's see... reputation/aggression I crunched using penalty minutes factored by time on ice. pass/shot bias I generally used a comparison between assists and shots taken and time on ice. passing factored that previous rating and assists and time on ice. it's an art, really. I use a lot of paper and a calculator and my girlfriend for assistance. we'll be doing it again after the trade deadline, so feel free to hit me up about it now and/or later to discuss it further, if you'd like. I love my system and I'm always trying to improve and simplify it.
  13. this (what, your thirteenth or so?) retirement lasted, what, four days? congratulations?
  14. your Dragon brand speech-to-text software is failing you.
  15. it's that there aren't any interested SNES parties, it's that there aren't any active SNES hackers. we need to work together out of necessity. I've tried to draw others in, as you've seen, but so far it's been hard to attract other hackers to this place.
  16. the editor doesn't do transfers from one ROM to another, it just allows you to easily make certain changes to the original ROM (or custom ROMs that haven't broken the formatting of the original). transferring chunks of mine into the original would most easily be done with a hex editor. I use Hex Fiend and Hex0xED (or something similar, I forget the exact name). if you grabbed the rosters section from mine and dropped it into the original where the classic rosters are, you might still run into problems with lines and maybe even changed pointer issues. the easiest way to take from mine would probably just be having two editor windows open and copying slowly. that or just use mine and make changes from there. if you just want to add icons, it's pretty easy in TileLayerPro. you'd find the part of the ROM images (mine and the original) shown below and adjust them with the plus and minus buttons next to the zero on a standard keyboard. you'd do one at a time, making sure you have both ROMs aligned to where the original shows the whole tile. the "whole" tile is actually about half of the full image under the player because it uses the shown part and a mirror image of it for the rest. it's not too hard. get some sort of (Dar)Wine program running to use the editor. get TileLayerPro (or Tile Molester) going. get a Hex editor functional and you should be good to go. you are well-schooled in trial and error, so I think you can handle making this work. most everything i know how to do is listed in the ROM mapping thread. there is also some stuff I don't get (yet) that i'd love help with, namely roster expansion. I already use initials to get ANA and FLA to hold enough players, but I'd like to use full names and substitutes, too. if you figure any of that out, please let me know. I think the other two guys who have most recently done ROM hacks are retired form it. I'll be doing an update after the trade deadline and I'm excited at the potential of having you assist, directly or by proxy. please stick around and stay active!
  17. no and no. I use DarWine on my Mac 10.4.11. I use TileLayerPro to edit graphics. you could open both mine and the original to add graphics back. you'd match up the spot that the icons are in. you'd use the + and - keys near the P on the keyboard to line the images up. each one must be done separately. it's not too tough.
  18. I'd put in $50 or so to get somebody to put in the serious work it'd take to get us significantly further than we are now.
  19. there can be many different playoff setups.
  20. thank you. please know that I am seriously considering those changes. the first is more likely than the latter, but I very much appreciate your intelligent and specific feedback. please always offer suggestions/critiques/opnions/comments/etc. the SNES side needs more heroes, as there aren't enough people producing ROMs nor showing informed interest is tweaking them. if you are you learn about expansion team roster expansion (there is some information in the mapping thread), please be willing to join forces with me to make future updates. I would gladly help with any guidance or possibly work to help you with other projects if you ask.
