  1. Lets not make this thread go places that aren't necessary. A member of the community should appreciate any work done by others, especially when they don't contribute anything themselves. It should be that simple. If you don't care for someone's work, keep that to yourself. A hacked ROM won't appeal to everyone. We can all make recommendations/give positive feedback to others, but the approach taken in this thread isn't going to make someone think "Oh yea, you're right let me get on that.". Just giving some constructive feedback here. -Evan
  2. You can remove boilerboy1321 from the list, he's let me know to remove him from the league. -Evan
  3. I'm totally with you on this one. Usually I'll do it just to try and disrupt the flow of the game (meaning the other team has all the flow) though I don't think I'd ever do this during an online match. More just during a friendly game. -Evan
  4. Hey guys, You may sign up on the registration page again if you'd like to be placed on the waiting list. At this point, the waiting list will only show users who are not currently in the league, and will be used if we need to replace any coaches throughout the season. -Evan
  5. Chaos, This is solid stuff, great work! The all-time stats page is really useful as you mentioned and the updated edit profile page is cleaner. Thanks for all the work done. You're really helping to make the site what everyone was hoping it would be. -Evan
  6. Guys, lets wait for Chaos's word on when the site will be ready. As it stands now I know we're aiming for October 1st the latest to start (to go with the NHL season start). Soon as we know info we'll post it. We also have to try and get all the new coaches confirmed. -Evan
  7. Thanks Halifax. As the guys have mentioned, you're good to go. -Evan
  8. I don't have solid answers right now, but I have recently done some testing with a couple other guys and found that the problem ended up being the emulator version. For one user, Gens 2.14 was the problem. When he reverted back to Gens 2.10 (while I was using 2.14) things worked smooth. I'd have to look into this more before making any conclusions. If anyone else has run into this problem, I'd be curious what the results were as well. -Evan
  9. Welcome aboard! Have you played a test game online yet? If not, hit me or anyone you can find for a game. -Evan
  10. Hey Voc, I did mention in the Getting Started guide that wireless can be flaky though I've heard for some it's solid. Smoz, thanks for clearing that up. I've updated the homepage of nhl94online.com to offer both EXE's in the Gens download package. I've also made adjustments to the Getting Started page, based on your comments. I made 6 fresh Hamachi networks today which are also listed in the Getting Started page: Network Name/Password 01 nhl94server1/bodycheck 02 nhl94server2/bodycheck 03 nhl94server3/bodycheck 04 nhl94online.com1/onetimer 05 nhl94online.com2/onetimer 06 nhl94online.com3/onetimer If anyone wants to follow this pattern to make more Hamachi networks, or want me to include their networks just let me know. -Evan
  11. Thanks for feedback Smoz, always appreciated. I've been out of the loop with playing online, just trying to get back up to speed. I did my best first pass with documentation for Hamachi setup, being I've only had it installed for a couple days. Yes, I did want to mention the free license allows up to 16 users per network, so we'll defintely need a list of networks. I was thinking of just making like: nhl94online.com1 nhl94online.com2 nhl94online.com3 etc. I'll fix up some of the wording and links, again thanks for going through that. I guess Antivirus isn't the right word. When you purchase/download this type of software it is usually centered around Antivirus, though for nhl94 online purposes it certainly is firewall related settings that typically hinder the connection. I'll just make it clear that it's firewall settings within the "internet security" software. Sorry if this sounds silly, but what is gens_netplay.exe and how is that different from the gens.exe file? Thanks, -Evan
  12. I've been doing some testing using Hamachi and Gens with P2P. I would guess the most common problem with P2P mode is Anti-Virus software/windows firewall blocking the traffic. Hamachi does a great job to bypass the router settings and security, but not with Anti-Virus software. A great thing I've learned with Hamachi, is you can quickly ping your opponent to see if you can send/receive packet information. If you get a request timeout, that person has something blocking the incoming traffic. This is something online players should quickly test before they start a game. I don't think it would be too much trouble to list how to get around this for the main Anti-Virus software once we learn the problems. I would guess most players have apps such as Norton 360, ESET, AVG, BitDefender, Kaspersky, etc. (Sounds like with Kaspersky you might have to setup a "rule" from what I've read.) I currently use BitDefender, and it doesn't block anything needed for online play by default. If any users have a problem with P2P, can you reply with what Anti-Virus software you have? I'm looking to really push the P2P play using Hamachi because it's very easy to setup. I've updated the Getting Started page on nhl94online.com. Please give it a read through and let me know if anything is unclear, or could be worded better. I plan to continue adding/modifying the tutorials to make them clear and easy to understand. On a side note, another alternative for a little more advanced setup, is to actually host a kaillera server using the kaillerasrv.exe. It's an EXE that runs a server (public if desired), and just has a simple config file. The reason I bring this up, is I was trying to play against an opponent who couldn't do P2P, but could play on servers. I made my own Kaillera server, and he joined that which in essence is almost like playing P2P since my location was the server. It's not the ideal way to play, but it was still very smooth and we were able to play without much setup. I'll probably make a little tutorial on how to set that up at some point with a download link. I have to say using Hamachi with ZSnes makes things very easy as some of you have mentioned. I strongly recommend Snes players use Hamachi instead of ZBattle for it's ease of use. -Evan
  13. Thanks guys. Yes, when I make the updated tutorials I'll be sure to include Hamachi as an option (I've never used it because I know what I'm doing with the router). -Evan
  14. Ok, thanks for the feedback guys. And no, I'm not in GDL. I'm helping run the Classic '94 Fall 2009 league. -Evan
  15. Hey guys, I'm actually looking to see what the more popular methods are for hooking up with an opponent to play a game online. I haven't been playing tons online anymore, but some of you are. For Genesis, it was a toss-up using Gens with either p2p or just a kaillera server (my getting started tutorial only shows using a kaillera server so I was planning to make a more useful tutorial with p2p as well but haven't done it enough). For Snes, it was pretty much just ZSnes with Zbattle. I've used this and always seemed to work fine. Can you guys give me some quick feedback on what's better/worse when playing online for either version? Is there a preferred version of these emulators? Like I said, I'm looking to update the getting started tutorial which what the newer guys are reading to get started. Is there anything that keeps coming up that I forgot to mention? Thanks guys. Appreciate all the feedback in advance. -Evan
  16. This was copied from another post about signing up for both Gens and Snes... QUOTE from Houli @ Aug 31 2009, 05:20 PM: do i have to register twice to play in the gens/snes leagues ? Yes, once for each league. You have to set up draft orders for both leagues. Pay attention to this: I should also note - if you want to register for both GENS and SNES leagues, and you fall into Category 2, you just need to answer NO to "Have you registered for a league before" for the FIRST league you register to. Answer YES the second time through. Hope this helps, -Evan
  17. Hey Carse and everyone, If you want to check your league status right now, you can here: http://nhl94online.com/html/waiting-list.php. Everyone currently on this list is registered for the league. Everyone who signs up before Sept 13 and is confirmed will have a spot in a league. -Evan
  18. Hey mbrett, welcome to the community! Don't worry, we'll switch that over for you this evening. -Evan
  19. Hey, Good question. Chaos and I would be the main admins of the league. I don't want to mention anyone else until I have confirmation they'll be around to help out. -Evan
  20. In this artcle, notice the image of Roenick scoring in NHL94 is from my screenshots page. If you type in Jeremy Roenick NHL94, I found that my Roenick image has also been used on the official Anaheim Ducks bog page: http://ducks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?bcid=12887 Pretty funny. -Evan
  21. Congrats Halifax, looks like your duo was most dominant. -Evan
  22. This was a great video to share. Never knew the Snes version had these types of glitches with the goalie. -Evan
  23. Hey everyone, The official registration for the Classic '94 Fall 2009 Season has come. Chaos will follow up this post with some more details about using the nhl94online.com website for signing up and editing your information, but here's the deal. Registration will start Monday, August 31st and will end Sunday, September 13th. That's right, 2 weeks so hopefully everyone who wants to play will have a chance to sign up. The registration page can be found at: http://www.nhl94online.com/html/registration.php. Chaos will let us know when the page is "open for business". Depending on how many people sign up will determine how many Gens/Snes leagues and games are played in each league. The amount of regular season games to be played will be about 30-40. One thing I will mention now. If you are planning on signing up and haven't played games online before, start contacting guys for games now to test your connection is ok. We have to make sure everyone's internet connection is good for online play. The rules page at http://www.nhl94online.com/html/rules.php has been updated though no real rule changes have been made. If you've played before it's the same deal. We'll keep everyone updated in this thread regarding registration. -Evan
  24. Yup, he's next. Think Halifax has a good reason not to be on top of this stuff this week. -Evan
