Hi all,
I've updated forum with first 12 hours of so of sign-ups, hopefully we get some more so we can set a cap at nice power of 2, so no one gets a bye. In the mean time, please download this version of the ROM for the tournament. The only difference is that OT is 100 minutes as opposed to 20, the menu is set to our default settings mentioned in the first post, and 3 Stars formula is updated for line changes.
If you haven't played online much before, I'd be happy to help some people set up tonight, but frankly I can't teach you anything the tutorials here can't already.
Please download the tournament version of the ROM so things can run smoothly once we get started, attached here: 2020 Frozen Four Tournament.bin
Lets get some heavy hitters on the board!
Might want to put that rom in the first post as well.

Jesusplaysnhl94 is proud to select, with-the number-whatever-people-picked-before-me-but-it-doesn't-even-matter-because-I-picked-a-different-team, overall pick...

I'd be down to organize this, I am not too experienced with doing it here, but usually I'm the guy in charge of keeping standings/brackets when my friends and I play.
@-ing everyone who expressed interest just to keep everyone on same page so we can try to figure out how to go about this.
Go for it!
A tournament is a better format in a lot of ways
- People don't have to commit to playing a ton of games
- If things don't go well for newer players they don't complete a ton of games with no chance of making the playoffs and can bow out gracefully
- Keeps things fast and fresh
- My preference would be best-of-5, single elimination with a best-of-7 final, but I'm cool with whatever else everyone wants to go with.

@seamor floated having a Frozen Four Tournament. I'd def be in for that if line changes are on.

Played some games with @seamor. Great one timer with 5 seconds to go in the 2nd game and lots of great plays in the first game, too.
Lots of fun to be had with this rom.

Kuperman actually did the media guide for the 90-91 Super Series, which was the last Russian teams vs NHL showdown. I was supposed to scan it for nhl91.com but I never got around to it before I took the site down.
It doesn't say anything in there about him, though.Pretty much a useless comment on my part. Just trying to help out. I'll go, now. Cya.

Just a couple quick notes...
Yes, this one does play faster than the individual conference ROMs that I did. I balanced the teams within their conferences but I did not re-balance them for this ROM. Since you're getting the better teams there are more highly-rated players.
As for team selection, I took the Top 32 teams from the final NCAA Pairwise rankings at the end of the season. The playoff draws are based on the actual seeding methodology (such as no matchups within the same conference in the first round) and are weighted by the bubble teams' odds of making the bracket.
Sorry, just not enough time or energy to do individual player photos... Makes the ROM feel a little incomplete to me but there's around 1,500 college hockey players.
Looks like it'd be fun with line changes. At least I'm gonna try to talk someone into playing with line changes.

Man, I gotta play this against someone online. Great job!

Failed to mention my personal favorite part of the tournament: having @halifax call the craziest SNES game I've ever been a part of.

such good art and graphics, it would of been a good promise for a good hockey game if it wasn't like pong or windjammers.

Awesome job all around!
Congrats to @Mikail and @angryjay93 for reminding us all who runs this ****.
To @halifax, @smozoma, @kingraph, @chaos and everyone who had a part in putting this together: Thank you for setting up the best online, NHL94 tournament, ever! I'm very proud to be a part of this and to raise this kind of money for the best hockey game ever is incredible. If you'd have told 10-year-old-me that this was possible I'd have said no way!
I will happily donate $1,000 if it would help make this thing happen again, next year, as an annual event.

My brain had too many tabs open and I was thinking about the Mighty Ducks flying V formation from the movie. Then I realized that theres only 3 skaters and it would be kinda stupid to have that formation for a face-off.

Do you mean as a default or "on the fly" within the actual gameplay?
Right now, it is C/LW with a d-man behind. This is actually the "fix" I have to put in place as they are not labelled correctly in the hex code (my bad). When you make line edits, in the game, I believe it is showing up as D, RD & LW. I will re-label them to be D/W/C (as I have done in my 2018 & 2019 versions). Easy fix. I'll have it updated in a little bit.Actually I was talking with a client and typing about 94 at the same time so I don't really know what the hell I was saying. Doing the same with this client... I'll have to figure out what I was trying to say.

Nice job! Makes me wish there was a 6-way-play adapter.
It'd be cool if you could change the face-off position of the skaters for this, too.
-
Pretty much every ROM edit, ever made, is in the master rom list thread.
Also, please thank the guys who created these edits if you do download them.
It's a lot of free work, in some cases hundreds of hours in the ROMs and hacks that I, as well as many others, have done in the past.
Thanking them goes a long way in helping those guys feel appreciated and motivated to produce more versions of the game for people to play, for free.-

Didn't realize that DOS emulators were on Archive.org. Awesome!
@Mr. Derp you can use Joy-To-Key to map keyboard buttons to a controller.

I second the issue with the FPS.
Also, it feels like the sprites don't have enough animations to make the gameplay fluid, which just exacerbates how bad the framerate is even further.-

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I don't know how I would do that. I'm computer illiterate, so it would be a dream to be able to figure out how to play those games. It's taking me a while just to get my brain around the steps to be able to join you guys in some online fun.
For the amount of enjoyment you'd get, it's worth it. Only have to figure it out once.
It's probably easier than figuring out how to setup the emulator and playing online.
-
@Mr. Derp you can play the PC version (NHL Hockey and NHL 95) on the DOX Box emulator, if you didn't know.
