  1. I'd like it if you'd would be willing to double check my work on things like player weights, jersey numbers and handednesses. if you offer to assist, I'll send you the Ninety Flow 2013-2014 beta(s) to peruse on the condition that you load official roster data from nhl.com and run checks to see if I overlooked anything. I'd ask that you then report back with notes like "Bob Leftwing is 234 pounds, not 212" and "you misspelled Charlie Defenseman and he's righthanded, not a lefty like you made him." if you know a team particularly well, you could give them a full scoping and give me pointers on lines like "Toby Rookie has been sent down to the AHL now that Marty Veteran is healthy, so Marty will be the second line center and Chester McScrubbington will move down to the fourth line" and "Guy and Dude never skate together on the penalty kill, so put Dude with Man and Guy with Buddy." right now I have the first third of the teams "done" and I'm doing about three per day. if you can and will help, please holler at your boy.
  2. the biggest thing for me is that the Genesis seems to be slow to react to cotroller instructions. I recently sold mine because I rarely played it and when I did I would get frustrated with the drastic difference in response between other gaming systems and that one. for a game like '94, quick reactions are key. you can "blast process" your hedgehog as much as you want, but when I have to anticipate where my fast-moving character will be on the screen when the system finally recognizes and displays the command I gave it, that sucks. now, the system supposedly has the same 16ms controller response time as the SNES (as claimed by a posting party here -- I'd love to see proof), but the Super Nintendo reacts seemingly instantaneously and I cannot say that about the Genesis. the Genesis version of '94 came first and was more popular, so it maintains a larger following. I suggest that this is built mostly on familiarity and nostalgia. Genesis players ( <--- I resisted the urge to use that term y'all love to hate) may claim to not require "feature overload," but they sure were happy with the instant goalie control hack and would probably love defense control and even a stand back up command added to their game. SNES players love the precision and quickness -- THE FLOW. do Genesis players enjoy delayed flow? maybe. I highlighted some major differences in a post above, but a few ring alarmingly in my mind when I think of the Genesis version of NHL '94. before hacks, the Genesis version delayed goaltender control until too late, had some players on multiple teams at once, had a drastic mathematics failure known as "the weight bug...." obviously I could go on, analytically. when Genesis folks attempt similar rationalizations of supposed superiority, their claims ring hollow. sure, lots of the major issues were fixed with hacks (which is GREAT), but I wish as much work went into improving the better version (at least the worse one is getting better, though). in rereading this thread, one suggestion is that user records are crucial. if you require user records, go with the Genesis version. if you require quick responses to commands, goaltender and defenseman control, satisfying checking, decent skater agility, realistic physics, minimized glitching and an overall feeling of control over your players, don't go with the Genesis version. Sega CD and PC versions don't get nearly enough love, either. both are far superior to the Genesis. I'm a SNES guy, as I'm sure you all know. thanks for reading this. try them all.
  3. well, Jagr is and he should get the forty he needs.
  4. nah, just most of 'em. I'd be willing to help, but I have extremely little to offer in the way of Genesis assistance. there are people here who could help, but most of them have retired or run into similar frustrations to yours and pretty much stopped coming around. I challenge you to be part of the solution. maybe you could drum up some interest by sharing screenshots/videos/descriptions/plans from your project. after reading through the editing section(s), you should have a pretty good idea of who is helpful and who of them is still active (which is admittedly almost nobody). maybe a well-phrased private message or three would suit your intentions, but a lashing out won't do much but rile up the useless, which we have in the proverbial spades. send out feelers and asked well-crafted questions of those that may hold answers. if you don't get immediate responses, move on to another part of your project and come back to this. good luck and please keep us posted with your work and share your discoveries with all.
  5. wow. I'd help and I'm sure lots of people would. the problem as I see it is that you have a question that is very specific and difficult to answer. you can help keep this place vibrant with additions of content. I'm sure you have discovered a lot in you figuring it out on your own, so please share what you know with the group. that and let a whole day go bye before taking your ball and going home.
  6. the way I see it is that Selanne is almost certianly done before the start of next season. Jagr might be back for one more. Selanne may win out by making it to a stage of the playoffs that Jagr watches from home. it's been quite a run of great hockey in the '94 era. here's to immortality.
  7. to clarify, the "other" option is for a previously retired player that was featured in the original release(s) of NHL '94.
  8. I just played '94 on the SNES. I'd be willing to do it again.
  9. 2013-2014 work has has begun. Dallas looks weird in their new uniforms. I'm waiting to revamp ratings until there is a substantial sampling size for the season. I'd be appreciative of tips like changed spelling of names or switched handednesses or remarks like "that guy was the fastest on the team in 2011, but now he is below average for speed." I'd also like it if somebody would be willing to double check my work on things like player weights, jersey numbers and handednesses. if you want to assist, I'd send you betas to peruse on the condition that you load official roster data and run checks. thoughts?
  10. component COMDLG32.OCX or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid. I'm trying to get this going on a Windows 7 Starter Pack craptop. I put all of the files in system32 and I don't know what else to do. seems to be running now. I used right click and ran as admin.
  11. that was very funny. thanks and good luck.
  12. unless there is a particular reason for wanting this thing, I suggest you stop bidding. $10 seems about right and $40 would be paying a bit too much. $400 is outrageous. is somebody else supposedly bidding close to that ridiculous amount?
  13. I think this is a great project, but how is it that you don't have the time to set lines? if you skip a week of tweaks, you should have time to copy lines from dailyfaceoff and get the rosters current. I don't see the point of doing this if you don't feel like getting the lines right. who cares if Ovechkin is hot if the rest of the roster has errors?
  14. I'd also like to change the colors that appear in the ice spray when stopping. it uses an icy color and one from the uniforms, it seems. I'd rather not see black in the snowspray. can you help?

if I'm remembering correctly, banners are kind of tough because they reuse portions of each other. banner and logo coloring isn't as easy as jerseys. for all of that logo and menu screen action, be glad you prefer the Genesis. I've wanted to do any of that stuff for the SNES ROMs for a while, but we don't have anybody capable enough to assist with the getting it done. how long did this project take you, so far? months? weeks? just days? are you likely to keep up with roster moves and lines throughout the season?
  16. nice spin. I was asked to not start in on folks. I have not done so since agreeing. you've twisted that to something else, where I have violated your terms where I guess I wasn't supposed to reply when put down. hopefully others see through your claims. what did I do wrong? I responded to jabs after agreeing that I would not start trouble. great moderating, clown. okay, so I think I got hit twice for using the word "pussies." I think that must be what I did wrong today. surely it wasn't defending myself. the notes in the infractions both say the same thing, that I've continually used abusive language and started trouble, or something like that. I suppose you'll be hitting yourself with more than a dozen warnings for your use of "....bitches....sucks....Geezus....WTF....hell...." in the past few weeks. you know, because that's "abusive behavior" and "inappropriate language" in each count. clean up your act and then get banned. you know, for fairness.

no problem. my posting abilities are being suspended, but hopefully I'll be back soon. keep up the good work. maybe I can get and respond to private messages, but I'm not sure. is there anything further you intend to work on for this project?
  18. yeah, but I have done so. review my posting history from the past month. I said I'd stop taking swipes and I have. it wasn't me who bumped the thread with fresh attacks. your posting history is far worse than mine. you antagonize and act like a jerk. you act high and mighty and make the forum a place that is less than welcoming to newcomers. it's baffling that you managed to become staff and even more so that you are still clinging to the "power." just be glad I can't take your ability to post away from you, meanie.
  19. pretty neat. great find, Smoz. this guy did a damned good job with that project.
