  1. Attach your ROM here, there shouldn't be spaces between the fields unless you are selecting the wrong delimiters when importing into excel.

Also, thanks for the offer. I already have Overall calculated with the output. The problem is to be able to insert a formula, the output needs to be an excel spreadsheet. CSV files are more generic and can be easily opened in a text editor, but cannot accept formulas as fields.

May be in a future version, when I have time, I can have it export as a spreadsheet as well. But the overall field is ignored when importing into the ROM, so it really serves no purpose to have (more for personal use)

Also I take it you never got around to making the overall ratings dynamic, huh?

Since this is a CSV file, and not exported as an excel file, there is no way to reliably add a formula to make the ratings dynamic. You can search on the forums here for the calculation and add it to your spreadsheet yourself.

    Hi.

Rather than doing an entirely new roster update on the SNES, I was wondering if there would be a simple method to use the data from an updated Genesis rom and copy it into an SNES rom?

I've tried to copy with both roster tools, but the CSV file formats are different.

I've also tried to move the data via hex editors, but I've got limited knowledge in it, and a simple copy and paste of individual teams left me unsuccessful.

Get the CSV from the Genesis version, open it up in Excel or whatever, remove the column description lines (should be first 2 in file), then load it into the SNES roster tool

    Hello,

This was the only post I've found regarding changing a display name on the site. I signed up with display name 'Bergieandfries' a few years back but haven't really used it on the site. I recently signed up for the SoChel tournament with a different username(kidswasted). I was wondering if my display name could be updated to 'kidswasted' to match what I use in discord as I am interested in joining a league after the SoChel tournament.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Who's still using 32bit here? Maybe we gotta nudge some people to upgrade if it's preventing us from joining our windows and mac communities (although really the RA or core people should just short out who's gonna fix the bug)

The dev for the core said there are 64-bit pointers in the code for sound emulation, but they are not used. He's against changing it right now because it would screw save-state backwards compatibility so he's waiting for a bigger reason to change the state code. It is open source, so I was planning on removing them and seeing what happens.

I think there's still plenty of 32-bit Windows users in the community.

    @smozoma - heres a link to the issue on GitHub - https://github.com/ekeeke/Genesis-Plus-GX/issues/311

Retroarch is in the google play apps store, no?

As for netplay.. not sure, some 'cores' don't talk well between different operating systems (e.g. we can't currently play Sega between windows and mac)

This is more of a 32-bit to 64-bit problem (Mac version is only 64-bit). People have played others using a retropi setup online with no issues (that I'm aware of).

    @jer_33  maybe?

  8. For everyone playing in online games and leagues, please update to RetroArch version 1.8.5. The download is now available on http://nhl94online.com.

For those of you who have the previous version currently installed (1.7.9):

Windows Users - Download the package from nhl94online.com. Extract the folder to where you wish. Navigate to your RetroArch-1.7.9-32 folder, and copy your "retroarch.cfg" file and your ROMs folder to the new RetroArch 1.8.5 folder. That should keep your ROM files and all your settings the same. Note, you will have to load the ROMs once locally to have them show up on your "Load Recent" list again.

Mac Users - Download the package from nhl94online.com Mount the DMG file (double-click on it, then you should have a RetroArch-Mac Disc on your Desktop). Open up the RetroArch-Mac Disc, and you should get the RetroArch Install screen. Drag RetroArch over to the Applications folder in the screen, and choose "Replace" when prompted. Drag the cores folder to the "Drag cores here" folder on the screen. That should be all you have to do (you may get questions depending on your security settings).

    What's new:

This version brings some more stability to netplay. Relay server is available again in this version. Also, some bugs have been fixed (and others introduced).

When we first started using RA, the relay server seemed to work well for a little bit. I would like to use the relay server as a last resort, for those who cannot port forward or have other issues with hosting. What's nice about the relay server this time around, is that you can switch players on the fly, just like you can do with "direct connect" (hit the "i" key to leave the game).  The relay server option is set to OFF as a default, and if you need to use it for hosting, you can turn it on in Netplay-Host.

Some of the menus have changed a little from the previous version. The menus are a little more organized.

One minor bug - There seems to be a bug with trying to host before loading the game. Depending on a netplay setting, the game video could freeze if you try hosting before loading the ROM. I recommend loading the ROM, then hosting. You can toggle netplay hosting with the "n" key, or going into the Main Menu (F1 key) once the game is loaded. Just be aware of this. If you do host like this by mistake, you can "Close Content", then try again.

They update RetroArch monthly lately. But, I'm only going to release updates if I see major improvements, or bug fixes that benefit us. It's designed to run on a lot of things, so there are many updates and bug fixes that don't pertain to our use.

Please note: You cannot do netplay with different versions, so both players have to be using the same version. In the beginning, please make sure you and your opponent are using the same version, and if not, direct them to the download section on nhl94online.com.

Any questions? Please post! I will update netplay thread soon.

  9. Offense: Mats Sundin. For some reason he always plays better for me than his ratings. I've also had him for a ton of draft leagues so maybe I'm just used to his AI and ability. Second for me would be Doug Gilmour.

Defense: Ray Bourque. Despite his weight, he's got a killer shot, great skills, and his AI is aggressive, to the point you can don't have to switch to him on D, he can do it all himself. I also like Ulf Samuelsson.

Goalie: Andy Moog. Easy to use manual GC with. Moves like a dream.

Ok, after about two weeks of trying (when our schedules linked up) a buddy and I finally got Netplay to work.  YAY!

His graphics are passable, but mine are glitchy.  BOOO!

It seems to have small 'rewinds' and plays seem to play out different ways.  It's like I can see two or three options of something happening, but he just sees one.  Sometimes I'll score a goal (it will just last for a blip) but then it shows the puck getting stopped, and then it's suddenly somewhere else.  I'll hear a whistle when his goalie has it (like play has stopped), but then it shows that it hasn't stopped.

I've hooked my laptop directly to the router with a data cable and have excellent internet speed (285Mbps per Speedtest.net).

Any idea what will fix this?  I"m guessing I've just got some setting wrong.

The attached video shows how jumpy everything is.

Please look at this thread -

Check the estimated framerate for both players

Issue 8: Audio Stuttering and Slow Framerates (PC only)

This is probably one of the most common issues I hear about - "My audio is stuttering!!!"

The problem - Audio stutters because of the video frame rate is incorrect. All retro consoles and console cores on RetroArch strive for a ~60fps frame rate (retro consoles and games are designed to run on 60Hz, which is 60 frames/sec (or close to it - this is NTSC spec, 16.7ms/frame * 60 frames = ~ 1 second). Your PC/laptop monitor usually runs on 60Hz refresh rate, so the video should be flawless with no slowdown. Simple, this should work perfectly, right? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.....

Even though your monitor's refresh rate is set to 60Hz, Windows has overall control on what to allow programs to run at (via your graphics card's video driver). So, even with a 60Hz refresh rate monitor, and a program that displays video at 60Hz rate, Windows can tell your program to go F itself and only allow it to run at 30Hz (example). This problem is a major one in Windows 8-10, and usually happens with programs that are running in a windowed mode.

    Why is the audio stuttering?

Well, monitor refresh rates aren't ALWAYS a perfect 60Hz. Depending on many factors (heat is one), the refresh rate fluctuates, very slightly (for example, it might bounce around between 58-61 Hz). This isn't a major problem, because these small changes are not noticeable by eye to us.

Fortunately, RetroArch monitors this. In order to sync up the audio to the video properly, it "adjusts" the audio to the refresh rate. So, if one minute, the refresh rate is 58Hz, it will slow down the audio to match it up with the slower video rate. If another minute, it's at 61 Hz, it will speed up the audio to sync it with the video.

The audio stuttering occurs when your refresh rate is something absurdly different (like 50Hz, or 30Hz). Well, now, the audio will sound like absolute crap, even though to you, the video might still be running at an OK speed.

So, the problem isn't the audio, it's the video.

The solution - First, we need to check what the actual frame rate is of your monitor. This can be checked in RetroArch, under Settings-Video. You will see 3 important values: Vertical Refresh Rate, Estimated Screen Framerate, and Set Display-Reported Refresh Rate.

Vertical Refresh Rate - This is the rate that RetroArch uses to sync the audio and video. This is 60Hz by default.

Estimated Screen Framerate - This is the actual current frame rate of the monitor. This will fluctuate and that is normal (see description above). Though, the fluctuation should be small. This value should be very close to the "Vertical Refresh Rate". If not, you will see slowdown in video and screwy audio. This shows a deviation from the "Vertical Refresh Rate" in a percentage, and also shows a frame count.

Set Display-Reported Refresh Rate - This is the refresh rate the your monitor is set to. If you change your monitor's refresh rate in Windows, it will be displayed here. This should be 60Hz (except in very special cases, like high-end gaming monitors). If it isn't set to 60Hz, change it (in Windows) following this guide - How to change monitor's refresh rate. After you change it, you will need to exit and restart RetroArch.

    Good Refresh.png

The important one to look at is "Estimated Screen Framerate". What value is this? Is it close to 60Hz? If so, you can leave it alone, your audio is most likely fine, and you don't have this problem, or something else is causing it.

Many people running older laptops with Windows 8 or 10 will see "Estimated Screen Framerate" in a range of 30Hz-60Hz. This is Windows controlling the frame rate via your video card. Many times, the easiest solution is to play in fullscreen mode (hit the "f" key to toggle fullscreen mode). You should see your "Estimated Screen Framerate" jump up to ~60Hz.

So, what's the solution? Play in fullscreen mode. If this still doesn't fix the problem, I suggest trying a different video driver (under Settings-Driver). The default is D3D11 (Direct3D 11), but try using the "gl" driver. After changing the driver, you will need to close and restart RetroArch to see an effect. Then, try again, under Settings-Video, looking at "Estimated Screen Framerate", toggling between windowed mode and fullscreen. Also, make sure you are using the "XAudio" audio driver (Settings-Driver). If you switch to it, and have no sound, look at Issue 1 above for a fix.

Are you able to just play games vs other players online if your not registered in a league?

    Welcome!!

Yes, you can play exhibition games at anytime. Join the Discord server (link on front page - nhl94.com); that's where everyone hangs out to play games.

I've wracked my brain trying to come up with non-joke answers to this thread, and so far all I've got is this: Make sure you budget your sleep correctly. Especially if you're going to be playing competitively the next day, but even just to function. It's very important. You don't want to be a zombie after spending time and money to come to one of these things, it really dampens the experience.

Or take a nap in the middle of the tournament, wake up and win it.
