  1. Probably more like in the red, as he is paying hosting fees, website renewal, etc. And thank you for ad-free!
  2. Smells like a future attempt to hack out the B check.
  3. Voila! Note that this is NHL'94...not as familar with '93
  4. I just recenty broke the glass when the puck was tipped from my stick, bounced off the top of the net and then broke the glass. Lol. I have the savestate, so ill upload the video when I get a moment.
  5. I think there was a league in GENS where all the players were the same. All attributes were set to 4. So the games are all based on skill alone. I guess you would have to eliminate any home ice advantage too. Another idea would be to make sure the total number off attributes for each player is the same. Perhaps start with 3 for all attributes and if someone gets 4 shot power, something else has to go to 2, etc.
  6. Aw snap! This should really be completed...also reminds me to watch those games and make a highlight video.
  7. Gotta give the props to Google -- both the spreadsheet documents and the website maker.
  8. FYI, I just added a "Latest Games" on the bottom of the website. Right now there are a bunch of duplicate games as I just added the timestamp, but it should sort out as games get played.
  9. Yet another reason smoz is THE MAN -- there is a special penalty leaders section on his Blitz site that categorizes the types of penalties, making it easy to carve out interference and/or holding. http://www.blitz94.com/penaltiesplayers.asp? Funny, the top 5 all-time interference penalty takers? Bure, Mogilny, Roenick, Gartner, Yzerman/Selanne (tied). All 5 speed or greater...which is what I expected to see.
  10. I didn't know this...is this true? I tried using the Blitz stats to see if I could find what caused some players to get more penalties than others. I may have to revisit that now...
  11. Welcome! Yes, we use AIM as the primary means of communicating, setting up games, etc. Typically, you log on to AIM and see who is online at the time to ask for an exhibition game. Let us know your AIM name so we can find you! This is a good starting point of people you can add to your AIM list to contact: GENS: http://nhl94online.c...php?lgtype=gens SNES: http://nhl94online.c...php?lgtype=snes Good luck, and hope to play some games soon!
  12. Season 2 begins! All the information you need is below. First, there is a website to keep everything centralized (thanks again Google!): https://sites.google...survivorleague/ I recommend you bookmark it. There you can click on your name to log your scores, see standings, available teams, etc. Each person has a unique link that will open up directly to their page. How to log scores is explained in detail at the end of this post. We have two divisions of 7 this season: East Division (forum name/aim) Alonzi41/509260736@facebook.ao batbl18/batbl18 Bo Knows NHL94/BoKnowsNHL94 dcicon5148/dcicon5148 IceStorm70/IceStormNHL94 KingRaph/KingRaph RedWingDevil/Iceguy94 East Division (forum name/aim) da94wookiee/Kedzie92 Dragon/Pearate Freydey/Freydey32 Houli/Houly8 kupuck19/kupucknhl94 minpind/minpind Plabax/Plabax You can download and import the buddy list here if you haven't done so already: Survivor Buddy List 1. I'm using AIM 7.5.14.8 2. Go to Options --> AIM --> Load Buddy List 3. Load the buddy list you downloaded, but DO NOT check the "Replace my existing Buddy LIst..." box or else it will overwrite your entire buddy list. You will then have a new Group called "Survivor" with the 14 people in the league. The ROM can be downloaded here: Survivor_S02.bin It's important that everyone configure GENS for 6-buttons or else you will desynch immediately. You don't need to actually use a 6-button controller. You can use 3 and map x,y,z to your keyboard. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes on ROM updates: 1. Weight Bug: Weight is the main attribute that determines checking ability and resistance. In the Classic ROM for Genesis, it's BACKWARDS so that lighter guys (Fleury, Gilmour, Roenick) are monster checkers and the larger guys (Lindros, Lemiuex, Bourque) are feathers. Hence the weight "bug". This ROM fixes that nasty bug, so heavy guys are meant to check like they are supposed to! (Thank you smozoma!) 2. Goalie Control "Y" Button Hack The original ROM only uses 3 buttons and to gain control of the goalie, you have to hold "B" down for a second or so. This ROM now uses a 6-button controller configuration, where the "Y" button will automatically switch to goalie control. No delay! NOTE: It's important to configure your GENS for 6-button controller, even if you are using 3 (map the other buttons to keyboard), or else you will immediately desynch when playing. (Thank you clockwise!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RULES Standard Classic League rules -- 5 min periods, no line changes, penalties on (except offsides). Each coach can use up to 1 home and 1 away game with any of the 26 teams to complete their regular season. Once you use a team, you can no longer use them again for the regular season. This is commonly referred as a "survivor" format. Tracking of available teams will be done automatically (see below). Away team chooses their team first, and the home team picks second. Home always has the final choice of their team. POINTS/STANDINGS 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie. No points for OT loss. Standings based on points, followed by GFA - GAA. DNPs (if necessary) will be treated as 0-0 ties, but no points awarded. SCHEDULE/PLAYOFFS You play everyone in your division 4 times, and everyone in the other division 2 times. That's a total of 38 games. Checkpoints will be based on the average number of games played each week. If you're significantly below average, you will be warned. Fall too far back and you may be replaced. Deadlines & remaining schedule will be posted at some point during the season. Playoffs * 8 teams make the playoffs - Division winners are the #1 & #2 seed - Division runner-ups are the #3 and #4 seed - Next 4 across both divisions make up the #5 - #8 seeds * Division winners start playoffs with all teams available - #3 & #4 seeds will have 3 teams unavailable for playoffs - #5 & #6 seeds will have 5 teams unavailable for playoffs - #7 & #8 seeds will have 6 teams unavailable for playoffs * Unavailable teams will be the ones that finish 2,4,6,8,10,&12 at the end of the season team standings: - #3 & #4 seeds will not have the 2,4,& 6 available - #5 & #6 seeds will not have 2,4,6,8,&10 available - #7 & #8 seeds will not have 2,4,6,8,10,&12 available Best of 7 series LOGGING SCORES Let's say I played my first game with LA Robbie, I was the home team, and I used DAL and he used VAN. Final score was DAL 3 VAN 8. Since I was home, I am responsible for inputting the score. First I click the link to get to the document (to be provided when season starts) "A" I find and click on my coach sheet, KingRaph. You will also see your coach name displayed on the top. Anything I need to input will be shaded green. I find my game against Robbie and click on my home team selection ( . Clicking the little arrow will bring up a list of my available home teams to use. I choose DAL, then click on the cell to input my score of 3. I repeat the process for the away team (Choose VAN, 8). That's it!!! You'll notice after you input the scores, the cells are no longer green. The records, stats, and standings will automatically be updated (may take up to 5 minutes to be updated on published website), and the list of available teams will also be updated. You see that I no longer have DAL available as a home team to use ( C ) When Robbie looks at his screen, he will see the away game results and he will no longer have VAN to use as an away team. There is also an "opponent frequency" field which will track what teams your opponents use against you.
  13. Okay -- registration is closed, but you can always respond to be on the waitlist. I need like a day or two to get the divisions/schedule/rules/ all ready, and we shall be underway. I'll shoot for tomorrow afternoon to get everything done, if not Wednesday the latest. Looking forward to a fun season!
  14. Couple of other thoughts -- check out some videos of good players, "A" guys like Carse, Frey, swos, Zalex, HABS, IceStorm, etc. on youtube and watch the defense. Remember, don't watch the puck, but rather what the player without the puck is doing on defense. It's easy to get caught up watching the game itself, but watching the defense will serve you better. Also, I think some guys may vary their defensive strategy based on how their opponent plays offense. As Halifax says, anticipating your opponents move is key. For example, if your opponent constantly goes to the corner to look for the one-timer to the center, you don't have to chase him to the corner. Blocking the passing lane or checking the center before he get the pass is probably more effective. Does your opponent pass a lot? Sit tight and clog the middle with a winger. Don't chase. You'd be surprised how effective simply waiting can be. Knowledge of your opponents players is key. Is he starting his drive with Glen Featherstone (heavy defensemen with poor offensive skills)? Then assume he will pass to someone with a better shot, or one-timer. Coming in with Teemu Selanne? Be much more wary. Following up on that -- be CAREFUL if you're going to drive into the offensive zone with one of your defensemen. This is a guaranteed way to let up a breakaway or odd-man rush if your attack fails. Good luck, I hope some of that helps.
  15. lol, Doug Gilmour at the end reminds me of Jim Bruer:
  16. Good stuff smoz. I find that the defensive strategies listed in Halifax's SNES bible camp also apply to GENS. Solid advice, I'd recommend reading and applying them. http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/13076-halifaxs-snes-nhl94-bible-camp/
  17. I think 95% of the time I get goalie lock is when I pass from the goalie into the boards around center ice. I don't believe I get locked if I pass directly into the boards horizontally or launch it vertically (i.e. both to no one). Interesting that you needed to be a man down for it to happen....that's something new to me. Then again, 99% of the time I experience goalie lock is in 2v2 games.
  18. One thought... Did your brother open up the 94 ROM in GENS before trying netplay? It's a small , often overlooked step, that sort of let's GENS know the ROM is there. If you dl the ROM and immediately try to netplay, GENS could crash because it can't find the ROM.
  19. A few of these really made me laugh: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/watch-five-minutes-hockey-highlights-brilliantly-synched-soccer-195518622--nhl.html
  20. This was the last recent thread that dealt with site improvements: http://forum.nhl94.c...owing-the-game/ Some awesome suggestions there...here's a copy of what I summarized there: I. Revamp the NHL94.com homepage a. Main focus on leagues/netplay b. Current/Future League Information/Schedules - Classic - Blitz - Survivor - 2v2 Summit/Winter Classic - GDL - SDL - Misc (Anaheim/SNESOT, etc) II. Videos to supplement the very useful "Getting Started" section on nhl94online.com a. Downloading GENS Emulator & nhl94 ROM, configuration and playing b. Downloading ZSNES Emulator ... c. Using AIM and contacting other members for games d. Setting up Hamachi e. How to play online via Hamachi/P2P f. How to play online via Client/Server I think the only person who can update the nhl94.com main site is the Grand Poobah himself, Evan. The videos, however, can be done by volunteers. Hypercam, or any other desktop recording device could be used, and a voice-over, if anyone is savvy enough and would like to volunteer. My videos list is just a suggestion off the top of my head...perhaps there's a better way to organize it. Either way, those videos have to happen. Should be easy, and highly beneficial.
  21. Esa Tikkanen not included in the set: http://puckjunk.com/2012/06/26/lost-cards-1993-94-ea-sports-esa-tikkanen/
