  1. NHL 94: 2025 Edition by Adam Catalyst v1.0 released 2024 11 10 Hello there friendly strangers, Here is the launch version of my 2025 ROM. The goal is to try to provide the most refined and realistic up-to-date versions of this all-time classic game. I'm thrilled to be able to share this with you. Here are the top reasons you might want to give it a try… New in '25 Gameplay has been completely rebalanced, and optional patches provide alternate Arcade, Classic, and Rookie gameplay balance modes and more. Plus, for the first time, an optional wide display mode! 800 players obsessively rated, up-to-date rosters and realistic lines, based on even more extensive 2020-2024 regular season data. New player Photos, updated Logos, Colours, Uniforms, Arena names… everything up-to-date for the 2025 season. Gameplay Revisioned The gameplay has been carefully re-balanced for a more realistic modern hockey feel, with harder to score goals, easier to hit crossbars and posts, more realistic speed burst, fewer penalty calls, custom energy depletion and recovery rates (balanced for more realistic line rolling and shift length), and player rating distribution curves that have been carefully calibrated for more realistic gameplay on the ice. Graphical Refinements Hundreds of refinements have been made including title screens, banners, player photos, scoreboard, audience, face-offs, bench area, player sprites, nets, ice markings, scorekeepers, Zamboni driver, and more. The goal is to bring the most graphically refined version of NHL 94 ever made, remastered for modern flat screens, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original art direction. And so much more Of course there is the weight bug fix, but also a custom weight scale, less variance in Hot/Cold rating randomization, immediate goalie control by pressing the (Y) button with a six-button controller, a custom 3-Stars of the Game rating formula, numerous bug fixes, and so much more. Every single feature & modification is documented below. I would love it if you would give it a try, and leave me any feedback! -Adam Current Version NHL 94 [h] 2025 AC v1.0 - 2024 11 10.zip Previous Versions NA Box Art Features & Modifications Title Screens & Under the Hood ROM Header: Updated to indicate support for Japan region, 6-Button Controller, both domestic & foreign ROM names, and updated checksum. Title Screen: Opening Logo screens display time reduced by 30%. Graphics: EA logo screen heavily modified and updated to reflect current Stanley Cup winner. Graphics: High Score Production screen refined. Graphics: Custom splash image. Graphics: Masthead re-drawn to match EA’s current NHL25 lettering. Text: Credits re-coloured & edited. Above: The player sprites design was revised to more accurately accommodate the wide range of colourations for all 32 NHL teams. Taped composite sticks complete the more realistic contemporary look. Above & Beyond: Teams have been systemically coloured to have as accurate a representation as possible, with a consistent sense of depth, and realistic colour shifts for shadows and highlights. Tests were done with demo play, and final colour decisions were made to give the most accurate impression in motion, and not necessarily what looked the best in stills. Main Menu Settings: Default teams set for the 2024 Stanley Cup finals. Settings: Playoff brackets updated to the 2024 seedings. Settings: 7-minute period length option added. Settings: Line Changes & Penalties defaults set to on "On," because that's how I roll. Graphics: Team Banners & Logos updated and refined. Graphics: Team Banner names removed, and replaced with "VISITORS" and "HOME" for clarity. Graphics: Player Photos all updated with official NHL headshot images, custom cropped & colour graded. Graphics: Error removed from the selection box. Hack: Player Photo carousel cycling order modified. Hack: Bug that would causes crashes upon cycling through the Player Photos for Vegas, Washington, and Winnipeg has been eliminated. Please note, this comes at the cost of preventing saved stats from showing under player names. Text: Re-wording of a couple menu options for greater clarity. Typesetting: Player names centred vertically. Above Right: All logos were revised or re-drawn by hand, and matched for visual weight. Official team colours were relatively mapped to the Sega MD/Genesis colour space, and banners were matched to key logo colours, with some minor re-wording in the menus. Pre-Game Graphics: Banners typesetting improved, and colours improved for greater clarity and consistency with the team colours used throughout. Graphics: The Pre-Game Announcer's picture frame has been revised for consistency with similar elements. Graphics: Ron Barr image restored to be closer to original. Arena Names: All up-to-date as of December 2023. Pre-Game: Match-up position names have been simplified to “Forward,” “Defence,” & “Goaltender.” Above: When EA released Rewind (left), they kept the same colour palette as the original, despite decades of new teams and new team colours. I've optimized this restrictive colour palette (right) so that all teams now look much closer to their authentic colours, and improved the typesetting to be better than Rewind. Rink Audio: Organ Music track assignments updated for TOR and all post '94 expansion teams. Graphics: Colour Palette has been altered to improve the audience effect with more uniform tonal contrast, improve the accuracy of the team banners, and to give the nets more realistic colouring. Sprites: Audience members design and animations have been refined. Graphics: Goal light & animation revised. Graphics: Instant Replay Reverse view inconsistencies fixed. Graphics: Minor refinements throughout the arena. Rink - On the Ice Graphics: Ice Colour lightened slightly. Graphics: Centre ice logos updated, adapted from NHL Rewind designs. Graphics: Face-off circles modification. (author unknown) Graphics: Net re-drawn to the most recent (2013) NHL proportions, with an updated goalie crease. Graphics: Trapezoid area lines drawn to NHL scale. Graphics: Glass & stanchions behind bottom net revised to be symmetrical and parallel to glass & stanchions at the top, horizontal seam in top glass has been removed, and on-ice reflections of stanchions have been fixed throughout. Above: There have been hundreds of refinements to the rink design. Beyond the obvious things like the redesigned bench area and time keepers, there are far more subtle touches like the symmetrical glass re-design at the bottom, the updated net designs, and the refined audience member designs & animations. Rink - On the Sidelines Graphics: Bench area completely re-designed, including refined animations, and the addition of animated coaches and backup goaltenders inspired by @slapshot67. Graphics: Time-keepers officials added, and time-keeper area Stanchion misalignment fixed. Graphics: Bench, Penalty Box, & Time-keepers area Stanchions modified to be consistent with the Sideboards view. Sprites: Bug fixed that would stack multiple Visitors players in the Penalty box incorrectly. Above: The original (Left) benches had floors coloured like the ice, and the players chirped with unhinged jaws, with no supervision from a coach. I've completely re-designed the bench area, including revised players, refined animation, an animated coach, and more. Plus, a new more three-dimensional puck design! Rink - Sideboards view Graphics: Sideboards Bench, Boards, Glass, Ice, Stanchions, etc. revised. Graphics: Scoreboard Banners refined to improve typesetting, and colours modified for clarity and consistency throughout. Graphics: Sideboard Scoreboard has custom drawn NHL logo. Graphics: Side-boards Score-Keepers added. (Based on the SNES version) Sprites: Zamboni driver revised to better match the perspective of the side-boards. Sprites: Player in Penalty box refined, and placement revised. Above Below: The original Zamboni driver (Left) looked like a small ruddy-faced hunchback. I re-designed him to fit the style and perspective of the scene better, adapted the design of the scorekeepers from the SNES version to match, improved the design of the player in the penalty box (who disturbingly had no lower body in the original), and have made hundreds of minor refinements to the audience, animation, bench, stanchions, the light refraction on the edge of the glass, etc. Above Top: Beyond the improved banners, the scoreboard features brighter lettering and scores along with custom drawn a modern NHL logo. In-Play Sprites: Player design was revised to more accurately accommodate the wide range of uniform colourations for all 32 NHL teams. Tests were done with demo play, and final colour decisions were made to give the most accurate impression in motion, and not necessarily what looked the best in stills. Sprites: Face-off animations revised. Sprites: Players given grey composite sticks, because grey pixels have better puck feel, more flex, and are lighter weight. Sprites: Goaltenders masks revised to reveal their faces. Sprites: Player Helmet colour patch. (@clockwise) Sprites: Player Eye, Boots & Gloves, and Stick Tape patches. (@clockwise) Sprites: Improved Checking animations patch. (@clockwise) Sprites: Player stick animations refined. Sprites: Puck design & animation revised. Graphics: On-Ice Player Numbers changed to white for better legibility against the ice. Graphics: On-Ice Player indicator (star) for Player 1 lightened to be less conspicuous and increase relative on-ice contrast for the Player 2 indicator. Graphics: Penalty box player colour error fixed. (@Slapshot67) Above Top Row: The original face-off animations had a linesman that was looking in the wrong direction (Top Left & Centre), freakishly long & thin stick blades, stick shadows that would overlap incorrectly (Top Left), disproportionally dark shadows that sometimes overlapped the image frame (Top Right), and a frisbee instead of a puck. Above Bottom Row: I’ve painstakingly gone through the 108 possible graphic combinations that can occur during a face-off, revised every issue I could find, re-drew the sticks to be more realistically shaped & taped, and perhaps most importantly, turned the linesman’s head to face the right direction. We all need to do our part to improve NHL officiating. Rosters Rosters & Lines: Updated based on extensive 2020–2024 regular season player usage data. Rosters & Lines: 800 total players have been included, covering the 25 players (14F, 8D, & 3G) with the most ice-time in 2023-2024 on each team. Above. 192 official NHL headshots used in-game), all individually cropped and colour graded for visual balance. Ratings Team Ratings: Team attribute & overall ratings updated as per April 19, 2024 end of regular season data. Player Ratings: Underlying system has been changed from the default 1-6 scale to a 0-15 scale for more accurate differentiation of players. (@smozoma) Player Ratings: ustom player ratings based on a mix of real-world data and gameplay oriented parameters. The goal is to make gameplay more contemporary, and individual player performance more realistic. Player Ratings: Custom overall rating formula. Player Ratings: More parity between the best and the worst of the league, with all players having a minimum 52 rating. Player Ratings: Weight scale modification patch. (@smozoma) Player Ratings: Edit lines bug fix patch. (@smozoma) Player Ratings: Hot & Cold variance is hidden from the menus, so you will have to feel which players are hot or cold through gameplay. (@smozoma) Behind the Scenes: Rosters, ratings, and lines are based on extensive real-world data and advanced analytics. All of this is conformed to custom ratings distribution curves, which give the gameplay its unique feel. This single most important feature can't be shown in stills. You have to play it to feel it. Gameplay Controls: Goalie control can now be accessed immediately by pressing the (Y) button with a six-button controller. (clockwise) Gameplay: Goalies without the puck can move slightly farther towards centre ice. (@smozoma) Gameplay: Goalies can hold the puck very slightly longer before the play is whistled dead. (@smozoma) Gameplay: Body Checking and Aggressiveness have been balanced to reduce the penalty rate from the original, and approximate the real body checking and penalty rates of each team in the 2023–2024 season. Gameplay: Hot & Cold range of variance has been reduced by ~25%, and the frequency of variance has been reduced by ~50%. Gameplay: The "goal" area of the net has been reduced slightly, making it more difficult to score, and more likely that you will hit the post. Gameplay: Player Start/Stop Crossover rate increased for more responsive skating. Gameplay: Player Speed Burst set to 25% of the original, for a more realistic feel and higher difficulty. Gameplay: Custom Stamina Depletion & Recovery rates. Gameplay: Weight / Checking bug fix patch. (@smozoma) Gameplay: Second-Assist bug fix patch. (@smozoma) Gameplay: CPU pulls Goalie with 2 minutes left when trailing by 1 or 2 goals. (@McMarkis, @smozoma, & @chaos) Gameplay: Overtime set to 5 minutes, Penalty Shots set to 20 seconds. Player Ratings: Attribute rating distributions have been careful set and thoroughly tested to produce a faster more contemporary feel to puck movement & gameplay, with better goaltending. Stars of the Game: New custom formula. Above Right: The Timekeeper design has been adapted from the SNES version, and modernized with touchscreens. The players in the penalty box have been re-designed (and errors fixed), the puck & animation have been redesigned along with a "translucent" shadow, and the scorebox has been nudged off to the side. Above: Note how in the original (Left) the player one indicator is distractingly high contrast, while the player two indicator is more difficult to see with low tonal contrast. I’ve re-balanced the colours (Right) so that both players visual indicators are equally easy to see, and the player numbers are much clearer to read against the ice. In-Game Overlays Graphics: Linesman & Referee pop-overs refined. Graphics: In-Game Timer logo has been re-drawn. (based on @Sauce's design) Graphics: Score Clock and Line Change overlays relocated. Graphics: Line Change Energy bars have been re-drawn to have an inverse quasi-logarithmic gradation. Graphics: Overlays for Shoot-Outs, Penalty Shots, Goals, and Injuries revised. Graphics: Instant Replay controls graphic revised. Graphics: Stars of the Game overlay re-designed. Text: "Cross Check," "Face-Off," and "Fight Instigator" renamed to "Cross-checking," "Face-off," and "Instigator" as per the official NHL rulebook. Above: Various evolutions… Updated ice markings, including a to-scale trapezoid area and crease. The Net has been re-drawn to closely match the current NHL proportions, and to slightly reduce the scoring area. Improved sprite designs, including details like the Goalie’s mask now showing a bit of their face underneath (Right). The Stars of the Game overlay has been redesigned, along with the underlying selection formula. In-Game Menus Graphics: NHL & NHLPA Logos re-drawn. Graphics: "Hockey Night" Banner slightly re-coloured. Hack: Player Cards bugs that would causes crashes upon cycling through Cards for WSH (and possibly also VGK & WPG) have been eliminated. Hack: Player Stats now showing Checks instead of Penalty Minutes. (@smozoma) Text: The “Change Goalie” option for “no goalie” is now in ALL-CAPS for greater visibility. Extras Box Art: Matching box art was made! The artwork is high resolution, print quality, and stays very close to the original North American box design. Player Ratings: The distribution includes a CSV with all the player ratings. Thumbnail Art: The distribution includes thumbnail artwork for popular emulators. Known Issues The Main Menu and Player Cards do not show saved User Records, in order to prevent crashes that on these pages with Vegas / Washington / Winnipeg. User Records may incorrectly store user data if playing with Vegas / Washington / Winnipeg. Builds are tested with Genesis Plus 1.7.4.15 and Genesis Plus GX 1.7.5-RC1 r24-10-2021. If you are having any technical issues, you may want to try one of these emulators. If you are reporting a technical issue, please note the exact console or emulator version that you are using for me. Future Wish-List I'm not sure how much time I will have to work on this in the future, but if I did find more time, here is what I would like to focus on next… Gameplay: Increase the wrist shot speed. Gameplay: Increase the puck ice friction slightly. Gameplay: Reduce the force with which pucks rebounds off the boards, etc. CPU play: Increase the goaltenders lateral stopping abilities, reduce five-hole stopping effectiveness. Gameplay: Enable line changes to be initiated without possession of the puck, preferably with a dedicated button. CPU play: Prevent the goaltenders from skating into the trapezoid areas. Gameplay: Decrease accuracy of One-Timers. Gameplay: Reduce the passing speed slightly. Gameplay: Reduce the energy cost for each time a speed boost is used. Gameplay: Enable players in the Penalty Box to re-generate energy as if they were on the bench. Gameplay: Improve logic for how icings and offsides are calculated to use puck position instead of player position. If you are able to help me with any of these changes, please let me know! 2. So, this has been brewing for a very long time but I've been making a concentrated effort over the last few months and finally have a ROM of my own ready to share. There are still some adjustments I might make once I figure them out but this is suitable for now. Anyway, this is a combination of ideas I've had. The team logos are adapted from the IceHL project that used to be part of the Icethetics website. The rosters are essentially my own creation, though there are a few homages here and there. I haven't entirely settled on what I want to do with player attributes yet. I did have a few concepts in mind but there's also a fair bit of copying random players from the original game. Eventually I'd also like to extend the idea to 95 but past attempts kept hitting snags. I don't know if 95 is more finicky or I'm just not exercising enough caution. Anyway, features include: -24 team fantasy league with Blitz-sized rosters -No icing -Edited menu music -Color portraits -Other miscellaneous fixes Of course, massive thanks to everyone here for the wealth of information available as well as the Icethetics community for the logos. 3. Hello Fellow 94ers. Im about to release a KHL 22 version in NHL94. Was wondering if anyone had some ideas they would like to see in before moving to the finished product.
  4. Hello Fellow Members, Ive been doing some digging into future roms, and have located the Team Offsets from NHL96, 97 and 98. Im not sure if these have been found already, but thought to share my findings. Tested the values and found each version of NHl from 93-98 had the players data in HEX editor starting 104 bytes after team-offset. However, 96-98 were all the same and were only a 100 bytes away. NHL 93 - Team-offset to extract rosters - 314 (thanks to @smozoma in his original post NHL 94 - Team-offset to extract rosters - 30E (thanks to @SabreFan1) NHL 95 - Team-offset to extract rosters - 772 (thanks to @kingraph) NHL 96 - Team-offset to extract rosters - 77E NHL 97 - Team-offset to extract rosters - 77E NHL 98 - Team-offset to extract rosters - 77E I've attached each rom extract below for those interested. In addition, would like to thank @smozoma for his fantastic NHL Hockey Roster Tool. And 97.csv 98.csv 96.csv
  5. Everyone just reaching out to see the interest. We've seen alot of NHL94 and a new NHL95 league. Maybe me start thinking, if we should merge these together. Play best of 3 or 5 series with a 94 player vs a 95 player. If best of 3 play first game in NHL94 2nd game in nhl95 and tiebreaker whoever has the best record or goal differential chooses whether to play 94 or 95. Anyone have thoughts on this.
  6. Hello Fellow NHL94ers. I worked with @jmastert on this custom Mighty Ducks Trilogy Rom. Includes all 10 District Teams from D1 Includes all 5 Olympic Teams from D2 Includes all 5 JV teams from D3 As well as some additional teams to fill out the rom (District 11-18), Minnesota Waves and Mighty Ducks All-Stars from all 3 movies. Let me know what you think. Mighty Ducks Trilogy - Final1.bin
  7. Hello All, I'm doing something that might have been attempted or not. But thought the conversation may need to be asked. What are your thoughts of merging NHL94 and NHL95? Using the players from 94 in 95? Using end of period/penalties screen from 94 into 95?

  12. Hello Everyone! I have now finished the BETA version of this rom, so I'll release it for people to play while I make it better. I used NOSE to edit Skip and Slapshot's Playoff rom(Under his permission). I plan to add a new title screen, Different rating, and remove a few players. Notes: Sedin brothers will be in for one last time Only the lines are editied, but by the time the rom is complete, it will be much, much different(ok maybe a stretch) Sorry Winnipeg fans: I couldn't edit the lines to make it 2v2, NOSE wouldn't let me, so it still has 5 players on a line.(This will change) Same goes for NHL 94 all-stars, which are also still 5 players Thank you for your patience! Nintenda's NHL 94 2018 2v2.bin
  13. The WI tournament featuring the greatest hockey game of all time, NHL94 is back! Pucks Out 4 Harambe is our 2nd NHL94 tournament, and plans to be even bigger and better than our first effort! Our goal for turnout would be a 50% increase over last tournament, which was 16. We are hoping for at least 24-32 for this event, and have enough systems to support as many as 64 players! Cash prizes await the top 3 finishers, and the opportunity to hoist Lord Manly's Cup! Townline Pub and Grill, 2455 Lineville Road, Green Bay, WI, Saturday March 25th, 2017, 10AM registration, 11AM start - completion(estimate 4-6 hours), $25 prepay, $30 at the door. Side tournaments and additional gaming afterward. Parents with minions of their own are encouraged to add them to the action for only $10 more! Time permitting, we will have a special 2v2 parent/child single elimination tournament for all of the parent/child pairings still present after the main Genesis tournament! We feel it's critical to pass the spirit of retro gaming along to the next generation, and there is no better way to do this than to involve your child in this great event! We can ensure your child is put in your grouping with other parent/child combos for the normal tournament, giving them a better chance to win a game or two. Frequently Asked Questions 1) Why the Genesis and not SNES? Price and familiarity in this region are the two biggest reasons. The retro players in the WI market we spoke with were more familiar with the Genesis, as it tended to be the platform of choice for EA Sports games during the early to mid-90’s. The Genesis version is also typically heralded as the better version of the game. Lastly, the cost of acquiring true SNES hardware greatly exceeds the Genesis in 2nd hand markets. Currently we can acquire a Genesis console for roughly half the price of an SNES. If we can get 6-8 console "lenders/donors", we will add an SNES bracket. 2) How old do I need to be to participate? The answer to that question is 18 if you are on your own, and if accompanied by an adult, whatever that adult is comfortable with. Children of appropriate age may participate in the action. Please keep in mind that because there is prize money on the line, we cannot expect any adults to hold back and “go easy” on them. Also, while we encourage and request respectful language, we understand that we cannot completely censor any profanities that often come along with intense competition. Parental discretion is advised in this matter. Children under the age of 16 may be added to your entrance for for only $10 additional per child. 3) What are the food/drink options? Food and drink is available from the venue (Towline Pub and Grill). Outside product may not be brought inside. You must be 21 or older with a valid ID to order alcohol. We do ask that you drink responsibly, and be respectful of the attendees, venue, and equipment while doing so. 4) Why no event t-shirts? We want as much money possible going to the cash prize pool for this event. As this grows in popularity, the prize pool will as well, which will in turn allow us to investigate the possibility of including t-shirts at that time. 5) Overnight lodging accommodations? We have no implied agreements with any venues, however there are multiple options within 1-10 miles of the event venue. If you need assistance or recommendations, please let us know! 6) What is the cost to participate? The event cost is $30 at the door, $25 if you prepay before March 1st. If you can provide a fully functional SNES console + 2 OEM controllers + and copy of NHL94, you can get your fee lowered to $20. (You must prepay to be eligible for this). Your request to provide hardware must be approved, so contact Trojan (Troy) @ 920-246-7513, or trojan1979@gmail.com, or directly message this account on NHL94.com before prepaying if you wish to take advantage of this. There a number of individuals that are contributing behind the scenes that are paying a reduced fee to participate, and this event wouldn’t be possible without them. We do aim for transparency in this area to ensure integrity. The full amount of payout will be disclosed the day of the event. 7) What is the format/payout of the tournament? We will begin by having a group play session that is similar to a mini season. The number of games played will be based on the number of participants, and the number of consoles available. Group play will be followed by a single elimination playoff bracket. The 3rd place bracket game, conference final, and “Manley Cup final” will have a 3 game series. Time allowing, we may extend the bracket to a 3 game series beyond just the semis and finals. There will be prize money awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Prize money will be awarded, 60/30/10 percent. With expenses and system discounts, we anticipate roughly $15-$20 per paid person to go towards the prize pool. The price of internal console acquisition is not figured into this. A 32 paying field would net around $500 conservatively. $300 of that would go to first place, $150 to second place, and $50 would go to third. If you want that number to increase, invite more friends! 8) May we dress in costume for this event? Absolutely! We encourage you to wear your favorite team jersey/apparel. Extra points of respect are given out for old school apparel! 9) Are spectators allowed? Absolutely! The more the merrier, however we do ask that spectators be respectful and do not attempt to play on a system without paying to be a part of the event. Late comers may be allowed in at the expense of some pool play forfeitures. Once the tournaments conclude, if you are a spectator and are patronizing Townline, we may allow you to play casuals with us. The organizers like free beer and wings 10) How many games do we get to play and how long is the event? Pool play will start within an hour of the posted start time after registration is completed and commencement announcements are completed. We are still looking for someone to sing Oh Canada if we get any of our friends from the north. Again depending on actual participants, we anticipate anywhere from 4-8 games, taking anywhere from 2-4 hours for pool play. If you are eliminated you are encouraged to stay and cheer on those that advance. The bracket we also anticipate taking 2-4 hours to wrap up activities. This process would repeat of SNES is added to the mix. 11) Will the games be recorded or streamed? There will be at least one station recording game play, and if bandwidth allows, we will attempt to stream the action on twitch. Please add twitch.tv/trojan1979 to your list of followed channels. Please log on today and follow us for retro content! 12) How do I prepay? Payments may be made via PayPal to trojan1979@gmail.com. Payments are nonrefundable. Prepay discount is available until March 1st, just under one month before the tournament. Payment of $25 is to be sent to reserve your spot. You are considered signed up once payment is received. Rules: Rules posted are in the spirit of kingof94.com with some modifications. Currently this is a Genesis only NHL 94 tournament. These rules may be amended/updated with or without notice at the discretion of King of 94 WI when deemed necessary. KO94WI staff is the judge and jury in any disputes that cannot be worked out between competitors. We would like to add SNES to the mix, but will need help from the community to do so. 1) Game Settings : 5 Min Periods, Manual Goalie, Penalties On, No Offside 2) Please no delaying the game(excessive time in change screens, or stalling on your own end to run time out, you must attempt to advance the puck and press offensive advantage whenever possible) 3) Known game exploits/glitches IE(pass shots, the “b” stat trick, post whistle goals, miracle drop shot goals, etc. are permissible) 4) Team selection will involve a coin clip, the winner is required to call the matchup and is the home team. The coin clip loser chooses which of the two teams to be. If you face the same opponent again in the tournament, this is automatically reversed. 5) A coin flip winner cannot call the same matchup more than once during group play. This restriction is reset in bracket play and is again limited to one instance.(example : The coin flip winner can call Penguins v Devils, once in Group Play, and again in Bracket Play) 6) In the event of a system malfunction, the game will be reset. The prior score will apply. Games in the 1st period will resume from the 2nd, 2nd from the 3rd. Malfunctions in the 3rd should be replayed unless there is a 3 or more goal lead while said malfunction occurs. If a 3 or more goal lead exists in the 3rd, and a malfunction happens, the game is awarded to the leading player. 7) If the game is not resolved in Overtime, the game is reset until the first goal is scored. Injuries and penalties will not carry over, and line changes are allowed at this time to adjust. The home team has the final line change. 8) There is a 10 goal lead mercy rule. The game is over once this is achieved. 10 goals is the max per game goal differential allowed in the tournament. Goal differential is a tie breaking metric. 9) Changing Goalies: You may change before the opening face-off in a period, and during play stoppages. You may not change goalies for a penalty shot, or once the faceoff animations have started. 10) You may only sub for an extra attacker and pause if you possess the puck. You may not pause to send the goalie back until the whistle blows. 11) NHL-WI staff is your referee source for any disputes.(Trojan, Moe Man) 12) The games are played on real Sega Genesis model(or SNES if we add that tournament) 1, 2, or 3 hardware with OEM 3 or 6 button controllers via composite signal on CRT televisions. The only acceptable participant generic at this time is the Hyperkin 6 button. You are encouraged to bring your own controller for your own comfort level. We will need to know in advance if you are bringing a controller. You may be eligible for an event discount for providing a working 2 player setup. 13) Line changes are permitted before the game, during intermission, post injury, and if a timeout is used. Please state that you’d like to make a change so that your opponent doesn’t start pressing buttons to get into the action. Unapproved line changes will need to be reverted. The home team is always the last to make changes. Please keep the line changes to about 30 seconds per side to keep the action moving. Stats are approximate in the change screen for the Sega Genesis(except for weight), so do not dwell too long on the figures. If you accidentally start the game before the line change process has completed for both sides, simply state that you wish to reset the game and then do so.(this should happen before the puck drops)
  14. Hey everyone, Now that the tournament in Vegas is over, (and hopefully the hangovers too) I wanted to announce that I am working on the details of our next Green Bay WI NHL94 event. We are aiming for one of the later weekends in February 2018, and the venue is looking to be different. Some good friends are going to be opening up a Virtual Reality and retro arcade in Green Bay, and that is looking to be our tournament home. I don't have much more details than this, other than if this works out, attendees will be able to take advantage of the venue's arcade experience, while at the same time getting their fill of NHL94 and other games in. There has been lots of interest after every tournament, and we hope to continue this pattern for 2018. Stay tuned! Trojan
  15. I think in order to attract other hidden would be "buds", we should all follow the various social media and content platforms of the organizers/streamers/league recorders out there, and get their content views so it shows up in more NHL94 related searches. If you post content, be it live, or after the fact, please post your related social media and content platform links so that new and old buds can easily follow you and share content. I'll go first. 16. I wanted to make a thread for buds to post where they'd be coming from. I know a number of you may be on the fence based on travel expenses or time. If you can share expenses, it makes the burden lighter. Let's put out where buds are coming from, and see if we can consolidate some costs. While we feel growth will continue locally as reputation grows, we truly feel the competitive spirit will be kindled by the traveling buds out there. For the would be flyers, it seems that it's a better value to fly into MKE rather than GRB Airports, leaving some opportunities for sharing a rental car. It also sounds like there are some players in the great state of IL. If you are near the northern part, the drive isn't horrible. Let's see if you can take advantage of a park and ride situation with some friends and make the journey up. Here are hotels near Howard, WI. http://bit.ly/2k6ThHz Let's get this going buds!
  17. Hello! My name is Will Barboza, I'm a writer with Vice Gaming (now called Waypoint). I'm doing a profile on the NHL 94 Online community and I'm looking for current or past players who'd be interested in doing an interview. The article will be a feature about this site, NHL 94, and its loyal fanbase. 18. Guys, I've been given two dates in March that particularly work with my schedule as of right now. Those dates are March 18th and 25th. There are those that have expressed interest in making the journey this time. Please reply with your availability if you are in fact serious. I'd like to get the date locked down ASAP before it's no longer available. I'm sincerely hoping that we can get some more traveling talent this time around, especially from the states. Also, I would consider the addition of a SNES bracket, but would need considerable help from the community in the way of equipment in order to do so. At this point I only have one SNES and a clone system, not enough to support the number of stations we've had in play for Genesis. If you would be willing to supply a setup, would you? We knocked $5 per borrowed console off up to two setups to anyone that was able to bring a setup last time. We have enough TVs to go around.

  20. Hey guys, Not sure if this has been posted before but I found this online in-browser version of NHL 94. It actually plays out really smoothly. http://www.ssega.com/play/nhl-hockey-94/1181 Now I'm wondering if we would be able to find a way to add multiplayer support to this. Looks like it is built on JavaScript.
  21. Hello all, just wondering would there be possibility to make a hack, where all players on ice have their number and position showing all the time. You know like now the player who have the puck on control, have number and position showed below him. Would it be a hard hack to do?
  22. Not sure who's noticed this as well but on the NHL94.com homepage but the site features "Genesis, Sega CD & SNES". However, I searched the forums and there are no threads about the Sega CD version of 94! I don't want to start anything but it's funny how Sega CD is listed before SNES. Just sayin' ;-) So this is going to be the thread to discuss all things Sega CD (which considering the popularity of this system will most likely be the shortest discussion this site has seen) About a month ago, I purchased a Sega CD recently and then bought a couple copies of '94. I fired it up on Sunday and here are my initial reactions. 1. It's like the Gens & SNES had a little b@stard child. 2. It looks and feels more like the Gens version but the goalies play more like the SNES version. (take that with a grain of salt since I haven't played the SNES too much) 3. Goals you would think are gimmes... forget it. 4. The game sound fx are so much worse than Gens 5. Loading times are annoying. 6. No Hot/Cold lists 7. Big PRO -- Ron Barr speaks during the team roster comparison where the hot/cold lists should be 8. Biggest PRO -- the organ music never sounded so good! Not sure how many others out there have played but would enjoy to hear your feedback.
  23. I just did the entire set up to play online. does anyone want to play an online game so i can learn how to start an online game and play my first online game. thanks.
  24. So I just had an idea of doing a little tournament with some of the GDL teams vs Classic teams. Probably the top 8 of each or something and then run a Champions league tournament. While I do think pretty much any GDL roster would be much better built, it would still be fun.
