  1. Yes, it is in 93. Banners are not hard, but I have numerous 93 roms from that time period that have the 21 banners done, and all you would need to do is insert your rosters.
  2. OK, I finally got around to testing this and I was wrong about back-up goalies getting starts in 94. Even though the byte thing shows up in NOSE and it is accurate for number of games played in 92-93, you will always get the #1 goalie with line changes ON or OFF. It does not matter and even if you set the bytes to equal values the #1 guy always starts. 93 is really cool. With Line Changes OFF, you always get the #1 guy unless**** With Line Changes ON, you will get both guys. I used Detroit and the Rangers for my test. Vanbies actually was the goalie of record 43 games and Richter 37. The bytes are set to 9 and 8. In did an 80 game sim start up. Cheveldae for Detroit was the busiest goalie in the league in 91-92. He was the goalie of record 70 times and his bytes are set to E or 15. Millen was the goalie of record 8 times and his bytes are set to 2. Riendeau was the goalie of record 2 times and his bytes are set to 1. Here are the results at HOME the 1st Goalie plays more and he plays less on the Road. NYR #1 Vanbies 26 Home starts/22 Away starts 48 starts Total #2 Richter 14 Home Starts/ 18 Away Starts 32 Starts Total DET #1 Cheveldae 26 Home Starts/14 away starts 40 Total #2 Millen 8 Home starts/ 16 away starts 24 Total #3 Riendeau 6 Home starts/ 10 away starts 16 Total ****The unless part is if you have had Line Changes ON and then change them to OFF the game seems to forget the change when it comes to goalies and will still use the back up. Another lost feature from 93 to 94. To bad we can't combine the best parts of all these games. Of course we would never agree on what the best features are. Probably just what the EA guys faced in the 90's.
  3. To the Original Post. The goalie bytes do determine who and how often a goalie starts when line changes are ON in NHL 94 on the Genesis. You can see it in NOSE and check it on Hockey Reference for accuracy. I am going to test the FF thing tonight. You are correct that you can't chase the goalie, but it does determine who starts. What step back did they take in 93? Better sound, better fighting (though both are great, 92 had no option of Pens off except fighting so fights either resulted in no one going to the box or having to play with all penalties on), player names were nice and the loss of logos was no big deal to me. 93 also had the most diverse ways to score IMO. Goalies were bad in 93 but we just outlaw certain moves and this becomes no big deal. All the versions had issues with the goalie the crease cut in 94 possibly being the worst one. Anyway they are all great. The segathon guys are having blast with 95 and don't waste their time arguing about how so many people think their version stinks. They play and they party like its 199-. We could all learn from that.
  4. The same applys in the Genesis version of 94. Check in NOSE: Some examples. Boston Moog 55 GP = B Blue 23 GP = 4 Rangers Vanbies 45 GP = 9 Richter 35 GP = 6 It is not about sides to me. I love 93 on the Genesis, my second favorite is 92. 94 is a great game, but you know I am a brawler, so it lost me plus the NorthStars went South and they renamed all the Divisions, and don't get me going on Bettman or the Instigator rule. Really 1991 was the last great year of Hockey. I've got a 1991 version of NHLPA 93 that is pretty much all I play. On a side note... I raise Grass-fed Beef if you ever want to give up your tofu. I also really like your web-site. Do you still own that TV? Really Cool.
  5. 93 Banners in Tile Molestor. Pallette Offset: 207506 Size: 64 Format: 9bpp BGR (Genesis) Motorola Codec 4 bpp linear GO TO 8FCFA 12x60 You should see all banners.
  6. NOSE is what makes this easy. I am not sure how it would work on SNES? I guess you could find these bytes somewhere. If you go to the goalie page in NOSE it has bytes up at the top. You can add or delete goalies using this feature. You may have 1-4 goalies, each has a spot for bytes at the top of screen. Slots set to "0" bytes will be empty. Then you just set the bytes to the appropriate GP's for a goalie in a season listed above, and they will be chosen by the computer in a similar type %. I am just wondering about this FF feature because with Line Changes OFF you get the first goalie every time. NOSE is an amazing tool. I know you love SNES, but with how into editing roms you seem to be GENS is unquestionably the better choice because of this program and the 30 team rom. Both versions of the game are great and very similar, especially if you fix the wt bug.
  7. I have noticed many roms use FF for the starter and back up goalie bytes. I have heard that this allows or makes the computer pick your back-up sometimes with Line Changes: OFF. Can someone verify if this is true or not? If it is not. Why do this? The default settings are: 75 GP = F 70 GP = E 65 GP = D 60 GP = C 55 GP = B 50 GP = A 45 GP = 9 40 GP = 8 35 GP = 7 30 GP = 6 25 GP = 5 20 GP = 4 15 GP = 3 10 GP = 2 5 GP = 1
  8. Cutting and pasting letters is really tough. I have successfully made a "RED WINGS" Banner using "INGS" from "KINGS", a "W", a "ED", and a R. It is not great. The best thing to do is use banners from other roms unless you need something really custom you should find almost any NHL team from the 70's to present day. Tile Molestor is really easy. Set your Pallette, Codec, and go to the correct offset on the rom you are borrowing from and do the same thing on the rom you are borrowing to. Then cut and paste the banners you want. Be careful messing with colors. Slapshot made an awesome tutuorial, but his site is down and I can't find it on here. Are you doing 93 or 94 roms? If you do 94 you have lots more to deal with. Start up logos and Center Ice logos. 93 is much easier because you can just make a new banner and change the unis in NOSE. Good Luck!
  9. NOSE will not correct this. Awareness will be what you set it to be. I do not think this is accurate after watching player behavior in Demo games. Higher Awareness DOES make smarter players. IMO.
  10. If you are into such things. Mint Card Collection included. Price is not bad. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NHL-94-Genesis-1993-Complete-W-Manual-Poster-NHL-94-Mint-Cards-Images-All-/301136171594?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item461d1d524a
  11. Naples39 put out another couple great roms and it got me thinking about ratings and back at making some 93 roms of my own. Plus Trudatman is always busy trying to build ratings. Slapshot had a great template he used for ratings that was purely stat based and only really included the overall. So I got thinking how to improve the rating system for these 20 year old video games. Physical attributes that I think EA got mostly right in 93/94. Speed Agility Shot Power Stickhandling Behavior they got right. Checking Shooting Bias (Roughness) Aggression Fighting Weight Means to much in the game and did you know almost every player gained 8 to 16 pounds from 93 to 94 Endurance Means nothing when playing with Line Changes OFF as most people do. Here are the 4 ratings that need improvement. Defensive Awareness is based on a players +/-. This is bunk as many of the best defensive players had poor or avg +/- from playing against other teams top lines. This attribute should be a team attribute with bonus points given to Selke award type players (Dirk Graham, Guy Carbonneau, Federov Etc...). Players on teams with low GAA should have basically high DA and players on teams with poor GAA should have low DA. Offensive Awareness Should be based on Points Scored and it sort of is but to many players have high awareness. These 2 attributes should have more range than they do especially in 94. Then players like Gretzky would stand out more as awareness is what made him great. Shot Acc is based on Shooting %, this is horrible. Many goons had high shooting %'s because they only put it on goal twice and one went in. This should be GOAL SCORING and based strictly on that. Pass Acc same as above though I don't know what it is based on. This should be ASSIST.

  13. Really nice work. I love the splash screens.
  14. Glad you like it. NOSE is amazing. We had a 92 league last summer. I will contact you if we do it again.
  15. Very cool. They were using/playing NHL 95. Seems NHL 95 has great LIVE Events. I wonder if the Segathon guys know about these guys. http://www.segathon.com/
  16. Craig MacTavish. If you played as Original 6 teams almost no one had helmets. It was 2k5 or 2k6.
  17. http://oldtimevideogamesports.webs.com/ There may be some old guys who still do that. Anyone out around Lake Tahoe in April PM me to join Retrothon 7. We combine Tecmo Super Bowl and NHLPA 93
  18. Here is what I think the OP is looking for. This is a cool rom that I made for the guys who I played in a 92 league with Deadmeow. http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/15411-92-in-93/
  19. 140 is the lowest weight. I think if I were you I would just skip the wt bug fix and make star players have low wts. In the original game wt is probably one of the most important attributes so just make star players have low wts. Link it to the overall that is the direction I am heading. EX. If you want Mario to be the best player in the game make him a light weight.
  20. Macs work great for playing solo or live. But, they do have issues. Gens and Generator for Mac will freeze if you try and save lines or after the first game of any playoff series. Something about the battery. Netplay works. Fusion for Mac does not have that problem (the battery works for saving) but you can not configure a controller properly. No netplay. NOSE does not work on a Mac. The Bootcamp is a good solution. I wish I had as my Mac plays up on a big screen beautifully. My PC not so much, I spend 15 minutes everytime setting up a second monitor.
  21. It is really tough to body check with even checking. Still trying to decide if I like it. And I guess it is just the angle/speed/random, but it does blow up the plus 2 thing because with everyone equal you can still have a successful body check. What is determining the success of those checks? Checking and weight drives me crazy. I have had similar thoughts to what you wrote above. I was thinking even simpler. 180/196/212. The problem is that wt also affects acceleration and turning so if you make Gretzky heavier he will not accellerate and turn as well. The wt bug fix is looking like the best overall solution. Gretz and Bossy will be good because of high ratings, quickness, and acceleration. They will get knocked around alot though. Luckily it is 93 and Semenko and Gillies can answer the bell when they do get knocked around. I am thinking about an 83 rom. Maybe we should join forces.
  22. Not that it matters because I am not an elite player, but the slow dragging out/dying/replacing that goes on in these leagues is what keeps me from joining. The effort and time by the guys who run these leagues is Herculean. I think our 93 League (though we did have some minor issues) and the Gentlemens Club are on to something. Get a group of guys you can count on and play.
