  2. Yeah I try to break it down as the ROM is the whole game, that you play with emulator. Calling it the cartridge is a good idea. Then I mention the origin of the name ROM as an aside. A lot of people think the ROM file is a patch. They want to install NHL'94 and then install the update.
  3. Nicely done! I will offer this definition for people like me: “A ROM is ‘cartridge’ for an emulator.*” *(a computer program that imitates a video game system).

  5. Here’s my best attempt. “A ROM is technically a Read Only Memory, like a Nintendo Switch cartridge. You can’t save any files on a Switch cartridge but you can read the data and play the game. When people refer to ROMs, they are often referring to a digital file that is a copy of the data on a ROM. Since many old video games were only available on cartridges, the term ROM is often associated with retro gaming. These ROM files can be played on emulator software or hardware on a computer or compatible device.”
  6. I found myself getting hung up on this as the idea seemed so foreign. But then I had to remind myself that I grew up in an era when every computer game came on a shiny disc with a hole in the center and the initials "CD-ROM" prominently emblazoned on it somewhere. Now, with physical media being less prominent [with gamers as opposed to collectors] and many game playing experiences beginning simply with "Open Steam account or home screen on device of choice and click an icon", has what used to be considered general knowledge become a barrier to entry?

  8. Haha, thanks! I was trying to explain what to get to someone on reddit since people tend to not know what a ROM is

  10. Hmm. Good point. I mean, my thought process is that the addendums get added to the end...um, but when our esteemed competitor is using a completely opposing methodology, possibly in an attempt to breed confusion and distrust in our efforts, I suppose one can only respond with additional clarity. I guess one could respond with like vitriol and contempt, but there is enough of that in this world as it is, and unlike our esteemed competition, I do not wish to contribute to that narrative or environment, so I mean that one should only respond with additional clarity. I did however add some text to make clearer the chronology of updates in the original post.

    NHL96-PC

I think I managed to do NHL95PC netplay via Dosbox... I think it was on LAN, never tried it on WAN.
  13. FYI the forum makes it difficult to know which one to download. I like Adam's system of putting the latest one under a "Current Version" heading and the others under "Old Versions"

  16. I love minor league hockey, and this template is perfect for the ever-changing rosters which I enjoy updating. The things you guys do with graphics blow me away. Thank you!
  17. Current working ROM is here: AHL_24_beta_05.bin So incredibly grateful for the pixel Picasso @von Ozbourne and @smozoma's help. This could be a good base for anyone looking to complete an AHL ROM.
  18. The link I gave has DOSBox and is configured to work on modern computers.
  19. We run it in DOSBOX on Windows 10.
  20. Posting here for posterity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF449QxbBqQ
  21. Get the game here. https://www.old-games.com/download/8000/nhl-95
  22. I took some time to create a cover page that pays homage to the original. I will redo the AHL shield as I realized that an older logo that I just stuck in there. But anyway, more progress on this ROM. I'll post the template once all the team logos are incorporated.
  23. Is there a non juiced version?
  24. Hey guys I'm turning to the pc experts for this one. How are you guys playing the DOS 94/95 versions of this game on win 10 / 11 ? It used to work flawlessly without any work on win 7 . However I've recently been forced to upgrade. The downloadable executable we all use from a popular site won't work with the vanilla operating systems of win 10 / 11. Any help or suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

  26. Unfortunately it's way above my head. It took me awhile to piece together a working version for my own PC. From what I gather it may have to do with one of the Windows Updates. I think I played a handful of games and am over it for the time being lol.
  27. I was just about to upload mine but yours is better Here's a zoomed in version I made as well because my full one was no good 0 0 0 :8 224 224 224 :1 192 192 192 :2 96 96 64 :3 64 32 32 :4 160 96 32 :5 224 160 32 :6 128 128 128 :7 160 0 32 :9 96 0 0 :10 192 0 32 :11
