  1. What about a hybrid? 1. Snake x rounds, then use the same order (worst-to-best) for the rest of the rounds. 2. Snake x rounds, then use worst-to-best order for 2-3 rounds, then snake the rest..
  2. You just make them up. It's all opinion. Thornton obviously gets 99 passing...
  3. My Dallas Stars handing the 25-0 St Louis Blues their first loss of the GDL season 2 was the highlight of my season
  4. I converted the all-caps text to lower case (many text editors have a feature to do this hidden somewhere). If you don't mind, you can do an edit of your post and copy/paste it in so people don't need to read the all-caps Cool stuff, there's a sim league around here, too.. http://oshlhockey.com/ But it seems to be down right now. ---------------------------- In 1992, when the `sega megadrive` was at it`s height in popularity there was a game available for it that i rented out of the local computer shop. it was called `ea hockey`. it was a popular game at the time and it still stands the test of time today. my first few games i obviously lost, but as i grew in confidence in playing i got better and better and better. it didn`t take me long to be a master of the game and soon i was unbeatable at it. but playing it wasn`t enough for me then as i started actually watching the computer play itself, and it actually played pretty good. so i decided to set up a organization called the `world hockey league` or w.h.l. and created a world championships for the teams to play in. the first championship had a qualifying round of 12 teams and the six winners went through to play in the first round of 4 groups of 4 teams. the winners and runners up was drawn into quarter-finals and the resultant winners, into the semi finals. the losers would play-off for third place while the winners would play in the final. the next world championships had 20 teams in 4 groups of five. over the years i enjoyed it so much i started setting up other competitions and soon it became a hobby of mine to watch and record the scores of the matches. the biggest step for me was to set up an entire season, covering several months in real time. this included an actual league set-up which comprised of 3 divisions; two divisions of 8 teams and one of 6, comprising the best teams at that time, playing both home and away; two cup competitions; the whl cup which is a knockout conpetition over two legs; the world cup which is another knockout competition but was only one game and a longer match; the whl european championships and the world championships ----------------------------
  5. http://oshlhockey.com/ isn't working! Is the Old School Hockey League done?
  6. You forget, logic and rationality have no place in a holy war!
  7. Looks like it was an amazing series. We really need to get the playoff games recorded.. Whenever I see Douge, I keep thinking, "dooj? who's that?" Dougie
  8. Scott Mellanby played last year. Don't know if he's playing this coming year, though.
  9. Offsides are a part of the game to avoid rampant cherry picking by human players. It's 8 seconds each time and will probably add about 10% downtime onto the length of the game. This is also why no one holds onto the puck with their goalie: it's just way too annoying. You could hound the other goalie to try to steal the pass or try to force a faceoff where you have a 50% chance of getting the puck back, but no one does it.. because the stoppages are too annoying! It doesn't take thinking to ward off an offside. It takes sitting around at the blueline waiting for your moron winger to leave the zone. And that's when you can even see that he went in offside, since he usually manages to do it way off near the boards where you can't see him. And you can't pass it to him, since half the time he still skates in ahead of the puck (though I think this is less of a problem on the SNES). I guess that leaves dump-and-chase. One aspect of offsides in the game that I like is that, even with offsides off, if the puck leaves the zone (even if you have control of it), all your guys leave the zone. So you do still need to respect the blueline, but just not when entering the zone initially. That's good enough for me. The AI is just too weak to make playing with offsides on fun. I think offsides could also reduce the advantage fast teams have over slow teams a little bit, which I think is a good thing. If you want an offsides-on league, make one, and maybe people will get used to it and like it. You're never going to convince anyone by just telling them offsides should be on. What about line changes? They're in the game, too, and actually require some added thought.
  10. Offsides are like TV commercials. I'm in no big hurry, but I'd much rather be watching the show.
  11. I'm sure the COMPUTER felt very bad. I run over innocent pedestrians in video games all the time.
  12. If you press left then right, left then right, repeatedly, I think the matchups change (the top team will be the same, but the bottom one will change). But there may only be 3-4 different matchups for each team. I.e., if you switch the home team to Toronto, and they're matched with St. Louis, I think you can hit left, then right, and the away team should change.
  13. I can't even do the cross crease. It feels like punching a girl; it's so wrong. Not to say that anyone who cross-creases punches girls as well. Still, I suppose it is a valid scoring method (however boring and distasteful). Considering that I missed the playoffs this season, maybe I should start punching gir -- i mean, cross creasing.
  14. Or maybe a mercy rule. You can still submit a game even if it's not done yet, so just save the state, submit it, and start the next game when one guy is up x many goals. 14-1 is a bit extreme, limiting him to just 3 shots. Who wants to play when the other guy has 3 times more goals as you have shots?
  15. Offset = location of data in a rom (or save state file). Could be called "address," too.
  16. Problem solved, guys: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.a...amp;catid=24356
  17. You know how the Nintendo Wii controllers have wrist straps so people don't accidentally let go of them and put them through windows or TVs? Maybe someone needs to invent something similar for gamepads. Just don't make it elastic, 'cause people will get hurt.
  18. Keep an eye on the forums and nhl94online.com and eventually someone will post a thread and start taking names for a league (usually first-come-first-served)
  19. I was Dallas (the scorer). Never been able to score like that again, though.. just one of those wacky nhl94 moments.
  20. Yeah, that was the one draft league highlight in the video. Seems he got his revenge on me, though, beating me out by one point for the last playoff spot
  21. Err, it's Esthero. The Canadian Bjork, perhaps.. : )
  22. STARS BLOW IT! Good luck in the playoffs, guys.. see you next year, when I get.. revenge!
  23. Hey, I still need to play takeyourpill (x2) and tesslog tonight. I'll be home around 7:30pm EST
  24. Hey guys, I finally finished my 2nd nhl94 video! Video 2 *new!!*It's a little long (6 minutes), but I think the editing is better than on the last one. And of course the video quality is infinitely better this time!
  25. I don't think it will make a difference. The game uses a tiny tiny fraction of your available bandwidth.
