  1. We get it for $5 in Canada. Because the regular game costs $80 and the bundle is $85. https://imgur.com/r/gifs/sZIjqHM
  2. The best thing to do is to start trying to do it yourself and if you get stuck on a particular step, ask for advice. Instructions for how to do everything are on the forums, but sometimes it helps to ask and then someone can send you the exact thread you need.
  3. You can play NHL94 Rewind against other people by using the Share Play feature available on the PlayStation even if you don't have NHL94 Rewind. Only 1 person needs to have Rewind, but both need to have a PlayStation Plus subscription. If you have a PS4, you can join the Community. Press 'up' on the main screen, find Communities, and search for the "King of 94" community. If you have a PS5.. well they kiboshed communities for some reason, so instead you need to add people to your friends list. So if you want to do that, please share your PS name here so people can add you as a friend.
  4. Thoughts on the "threaded video" option in RA for dealing with this?
  5. Quick Tips: Wi-Fi Disconnect from your wifi. Even if you have the ethernet cable plugged in, often your computer will favour using wifi. DON'T USE WIFI Laptops Plug in to a power source. If you run off battery, the laptop may use a low-power mode and be slower. If you need to run on battery, then use the Power Options on the computer to run in High Performance mode. General Internet: Connection will be worse if other people in your house are using the internet at the same time, especially for things like youtube/netflix. Try to play when family are not watching netflix/youtube. Go to this site (https://speed.cloudflare.com/) and observe the "latency" and "jitter" measures. Latency corresponds to lag(delay). Jitter corresponds to lag-spikes, which is the worst thing. Ideally your jitter should be very low, like under 5ms. Don't say "I've got a 100Gbps connection!" and think your connection is great. Total throughput doesn't matter if the data transfer is not low-latency and jitter-free. Anti-Virus Uninstall/Disable Norton anti-virus/firewall. It goes overboard and slows down the data packets coming in to the emulator, causing lag. "Windows Defender" is fine and free (build in to windows). If you can figure out how to add an exception in Norton so it doesn't affect your RetroArch executable, you can do that instead (and you'll need to do it every time you update RetroArch to a new version). Same with McAfee, too... you know it's not what you need when they try so hard to give it away like an extended warranty on a toaster. Frame Rate Counter If your framerate strays much from 60fps (frames-per-second), you or your opponent could get more lag-spikes. To toggle framerate display, press the F3 key (or Shift+f3 or Fn+F3 depending on your keyboard) To get a better(accurate) framerate count: Go to Settings->On Screen Display->On Screen Notifications and change the FPS framecount from 256 to something like 60 Video Filter In my experience, the RA "Video Filter"s are SLOW, so don't use them. If you have accidentally selected one, use the Start button or Space key to clear the filter. Laptops This is my opinion.. it's your money, do what you want. Cheap laptops are garbage, from day 1. Suggestions: Don't buy anything under US$450 / CA$600 new. (If you really must get something cheaper, get it Used but also obeying the following specs) Make sure it has at least 8GB of RAM. If no video card, try to get "dual channel" RAM (e.g. "2x4GB" is 8GB of dual-channel RAM), to avoid RAM access conflict between the CPU and integrated graphics. As a rule of thumb, personally I would only consider Intel i3/i5/i7 CPUs. No Celeron, Athlon, Pentium Gold, A10, Atom.... Removed from recommendation: AMD Ryzen (top-of-the-line chip but apparently doesn't handle RetroArch well.. NOTE: Getting dual-channel RAM may fix this?). The hard drive should be a SSD, not HDD. Screen resolution: at least 1920x1080 (Full HD, FHD) unless you're getting a really small screen (<=13"). NO CHROMEBOOKS. It's not a "real" computer for running software. It's a 300$ web browser.
  6. Rewind displays in your language https://www.facebook.com/groups/nhl94/permalink/10157741191067844/
  7. We'll have to figure out what causes the game to crash and avoid it. Seems to be connected to changing lines. Could have issues on injuries, too. Would have to select game rules to minimize the chances of a crash (NLC, no line edits, .. hope no one gets injured..)
  8. You'll get to play at least 8 games, against various people. So I wouldn't worry about not being practiced up or losing in the first round. Only a few guys have a shot at winning the event, but we still get a few dozen players on each system, because it's fun either way. As for the money, we don't actually keep it, it goes to prizes(trophies this year, which we'll need to ship)
  9. No. Although on the PlayStation you can use PlayShare to share your screen and play online with someone that way (both of you must have a subscription to whatever the PlayStation equivalent of "xbox live" is)
  10. What are you trying to play? NHL'94 Rewind on xbox doesn't have online play.
  11. I'm pretty sure the freeze bug is due to the game trying to read player records scoring data from the SRAM (battery backup) and it reads into an area beyond where it's supposed to and gets invalid data, causing it to crash. For some reason Kega handles it properly (Kega probably detects that it read where it shouldn't and returns a value of 0, whereas Gens just reads whatever is there anyway so it gets some bad data that puts the game in an infinite loop or corruption due to buffer overflow). I tried to look into this but couldn't figure it out at first. I need to spend more time on it.
  12. My thinking on this... They've said they might add online play if there is enough demand for it. But without online play, I just don't see much demand for this game. It's a chicken/egg problem. If the game had online play, I think it would make money for them - basic initial demand will be higher, demand for the game will grow because there's a scene to participate in, and they could release new $15 updates every year. They already have online matchmaking systems so it shouldn't be toooo hard to make it work. The one issue could be, as always, the game's internals are not coded to deal with online lag; so they either need to add modern netcode to the game somehow, or just accept that it'll have lag like the Tecmo reboot did. Once they have that kind of self-sustaining system going, they could choose to augment the game with fighting, seasons, AI improvements...
  13. Trying to catalogue all the differences... Work in Progress... Some of the differences are shown in the "What's Different in NHL'94 Rewind?" video. I'll refer to buttons as the XBox buttons. A=bottom, B=right, X=left, Y=top. Startup: Alexander Ovechkin splash screen instead of the original "EA" logo and "NHL Hockey 94" splash screen. Credits are not shown on this splash screen like in the original, other than FMOD, Arsenal, and Empty Clip studios. Main Menu: "Profile" entry with your xbox username (haven't tried it with a 2nd account yet to see what exactly it does, how it works with 2-player...) The game remembers your previous setup (teams, period length, penalties, etc) "Side Art" changes the art used to fill the edges of widescreen TVs "Controls" shows a static image of the controls It would have been cool if they transcribed the original manual into a "Manual" or "Guide" menu item. "Credits" shows the credits, instead of below the splash screen "Legal" shows legal blahblah Controller Selection Screen This screen is new! It's like the one in SNES and later games. Very cool. "Y Exit" At any time you can press the Y button to bring up a menu with the options "Resume Game", "Change Side Art", "Controls", and "Exit Game". Exit Game takes you back to the Main Menu of NHL 94 Rewind (not your XBox/PS OS) Ron Barr All the arenas are called EA SPORTS Arena. Ron is still wrong about who is HOT or COLD. For example in a game I played, Malkin was 99 Overall (normally 93) but wasn't called HOT. Guentzel was just 75 (normally 79) and was called HOT. Graphics: I'm still undecided on whether I like their portraits or not, the particular dithering they used. I find them a little blotchy but maybe that can't be helped. Morgan Rielly looks terrible. Auston Matthews' nostrilololololos. Some look fine. Players have custom skin tones. There are at least 2. Language: The game is 'localized' and displays in your language. I've seen a French(France) version in a facebook post. Bug Fixes: They fixed the weight bug. They fixed the "edit lines ratings are wrong", so that the ratings you see are the real ratings of the players that game (properly reflecting the random hot/coldness of each player) New Bugs: You can sometimes duplicate player in the Edit Lines menu. For example, if you play as the Leafs (No line changes mode) and set Marner as your centre, he will be your centre, but also still be your RW! On your first shift, you'll have 2 Marners on the ice. After that the RW goes away and you're shorthanded until you set valid lines. Sometimes when you pull your goalie, he doesn't leave. And then if you put the goalie back, sometimes only THEN does he leave the ice. Lots of people have experienced game crashes, which I suspect are due to editing lines. Such as when getting penalties.
  14. Welcome! Just to let you know, we also have a live chat server: https://discord.gg/H7vrytU And here is our general guide for things you can see and do here: https://nhl94.com/joinus/
  15. I wonder if the VDP offset is the location in video RAM, so is unrelated to the position in the ROM. One thing I notice is 0x374 x 0x20 = 0x6e80. 0x20 is 32 (4 bytes).
  16. Just happy to be able to say I lost a few series to some of these guys Kgman beat me in 5 in GDL2 I think it was. His blueline stopups threw my defense/checks off.
  17. Relevant links: Virtualdub video editor: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ (get 64-bit version unless you're still on a 32 bit system for some reason) VIrtualDub FFMPEG input plugin: https://codecpack.co/download/FFInputDriver.html (dead original link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdubffmpeginputplugin/ ) Unzip VirtualDub program. Open the plugin zip and copy the contents of the plugins64 folder to the folder of the same name in your unzipped VirtualDub folder. (if that doesn't make sense, watch the video, it shows exactly what to do!)
  18. Welcome! It's worth trying to play some exhibition games online. Everyone's used to playing with lag once in a while Join the discord chat and someone can help you get set up: https://discord.gg/H7vrytU (I didn't even notice you weren't a native english speaker. There's only one word order reversal that might give it away)
  19. I may have misunderstood what we were trying to do until the very end.. thought we were after the team31 crash . But this gets us a little closer, and it's cool that we can control how many players to display. And as Raph noted, we can change this number to show more players in ROMs with bigger teams! (important to make sure every team has enough players though)
  20. Welcome to modern software I had to jump through hoops to keep EARE's size down. It's all layers of libraries/frameworks. It's using "fmod" for sound and "arsenal" as some kind of emulator wrapper. Storage and data transfer is considered cheap these days. When you update a modern xbox game it seems like it just replaces the whole damn 30GB game rather than the patched parts.
  21. It'll be available in December. Although I'm not sure what exactly "more opportunities" means. (https://twitter.com/EASPORTSNHL/status/1322207174756454401 "If you didn’t pre-order, stay tuned because we’ll have more opportunities to play NHL 94 Rewind in early December") EA's messaging on Rewind has been really confusing.
  22. Wha? The PS one was released here years afterwards wasn't it? Or I missed it, because I wasn't too involved here in 06. I didn't get a free copy.
  23. Here's a matchup chart. generally teams which share a "band" are competitive with each other. So NYR-VAN is fair, but not NYR-BOS.
