smozoma
If you have more questions, add them below and I'll answer them Draft Order We had 4 teams move from B to A, and 3 replacement coaches come in this season. (If that math doesn't make sense, it's because houlanov was in both A and B at the end of last season). Since the last time we had an open first round, the B league chose first, this season A chooses first. This gives Rage93 the first pick! Here's how the draft order was determined... Convert the regular season projected points to a 0-10 scale. Worst team gets 0, best team gets 10.* Multiply DNP points by 4.** Multiply the number of playoff series played in by 10 Add them together to get the Total. *The A and B leagues are calculated separately. Also, the regular season points are projected to a full 44 games, for coaches with DNPs. **DNPs are calculated by sharing 2 points for each game, where the coach with more DNPs takes a greater share of the 2 pts. (this part is not the draft order, it's info about how I generated the draft order. See the next table for the draft order) ==== "A" LEAGUE ====================================================================== Team Coach ProjPts DNP-44 | Pts0-10 4*DNP 10*Plyf | Total NYR BoKnowsNHL94 35 0 | 2.87 0 10 | 12.87 PIT PerennialChoker 41 0 | 4.15 0 10 | 14.15 DAL KingRaph 48 0 | 5.64 0 10 | 15.64 ANH canadiensfan66 52 0 | 6.49 0 10 | 16.49 PHI snoboarder3211 58.5 0 | 7.87 0 20 | 27.87 CHI Zalex1414 68.5 0 | 10.00 0 20 | 30.00 BUF Icestorm NHL94 58.5 0 | 7.87 0 30 | 37.87 MTL Freydey32 52.5 0 | 6.60 0 40 | 46.60 ==== "B" LEAGUE ====================================================================== Team Coach ProjPts DNP-44 | Pts0-10 4*DNP 10*Plyf | Total CGY Rage93 21.5 0 | 0.00 0 0 | 0.00 DET gretzkyonacold 30 0 | 2.02 0 0 | 2.02 HFD maverickz161@ 36 0 | 3.45 0 0 | 3.45 BOS Pearate 38.5 0 | 4.05 0 10 | 14.05 WPG eggink444 45 0 | 5.60 0 10 | 15.60 N.J mcarthurbsu33 48.5 0 | 6.43 0 10 | 16.43 QUE kupuckNHL94 54 0 | 7.74 0 20 | 27.74 ==== MOVED DOWN TO "B" =============================================================== Team Coach ProjPts DNP-44 | Pts0-10 4*DNP 10*Plyf | Total T.B Sicarius Fulgur 21.5 0 | 0.00 0 0 | 0.00 STL Iceguy94 28 0 | 1.38 0 0 | 1.38 ==== MOVED UP TO "A" ================================================================= Team Coach ProjPts DNP-44 | Pts0-10 4*DNP 10*Plyf | Total VAN hokkeefan2 46 0 | 5.83 0 10 | 15.83 L.A dcicon5148 48.5 0 | 6.43 0 20 | 26.43 OTT xdeathsbloodx 63.5 0 | 10.00 0 30 | 40.00 S.J houly8 63 0 | 9.88 0 40 | 49.88 ==== NEW COACHES ===================================================================== Team Coach TOR da94wookiee EDM minpind FLA PRoBob38 DNP-44 - number of DNPs (44 game schedule) ProjPts - projected points if coach had played all 44 games DftPts - ProjPts + DNP Pen Plyf - playoff series played in (not shown: DNP Pen - penalty points due to DNPs (influenced by the number of DNPs)) (not shown: PTS% - points percentage) (not shown: PTS - points) As usual, I put the new coaches at the end of the draft, and the coaches who moved up or down in the middle. Defining the "middle" was tough this year. I decided that the B coaches who missed the playoffs and A coaches who didn't win a playoff round are before the middle. B coaches who made the playoffs and A coaches who won at least one playoff series go after the middle. I tried to make it so A and B coaches don't pick right next to each other, but having 3 new B coaches to put at the end made this impossible, so we have a stretch of 4 consecutive A coaches. In the odd-numbered rounds (1, 3, 5, etc), you make an "open pick" of any undrafted/unprotected player. In the even-numbered rounds, you pick a player who was on your team last season. We're doing something different this season. Instead of doing the protection picks in-line with the other picks, we will do all the protection picks right after the first round. The way this works is, once the first round is complete, I look at your remaining players and divide them up into pairs based on their draft history. You'll get a list of pairs of players, and you need to protect a player from each pair. Doing it this way makes it so you don't have to worry about losing more than 1 player in an open round, and you can plan your team better without putting as much effort into trading. It kind of simulates being a GM where you have signed half your team before the summer free agency period starts. Picks are made on the Blitz 94 draft website at http://www.blitz94.com/draftab/makepick.asp . How many players do I need to draft at each position? The draft is 12 rounds. You need to end up with 6 forwards, 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies. Please pay attention to this. Every season we end up with someone with 7 or 8 forwards at the end of the draft! How/Where do I make my pick? The draft is held on the Blitz94 website: http://www.blitz94.com/draftab/makepick.asp To make a pick: Wait for your turn (check on the site) Select your name in the Coach dropdown box Select a player from the Player dropdown box Enter your password (which is also your name, unless you would like me to change it) hit 'Submit" Important: read the result to see if your pick was successful. There are some rules that prevent certain picks, explained below... pick a different player if the player you tried to pick wasn't allowed NOTE: there is a glitch in the way the site works. when you submit your pick successfully, it'll still show you in the list of players who haven't picked yet. As long as you get the blue bar that says "You drafted Pavel Bure [F]" (insert correct player name for your pick), things are ok! Click the "Pick another player" link, and you should see that you're gone from the list and your pick is recorded in the tables lower in the page. What are these Rules that might prevent a pick of mine from working? In the first round, coaches can only have 1 player drafted away from their team. So if you try to draft a player from a team that already lost a player, you'll get an error message along the lines of "that team has lost too many players already.) Because of this, it's important to make sure your pick works. Important note: If you draft your own player in an open round, he still counts as 'lost.' How do I know who was on my team last season? To see who was on a team last season, click one of the "Protect" links on the draft page tables. It will take you to a page showing that team from last year, as well as who was protected or drafted already. How can I see the attributes of the available players? Click the "View Players" link on the draft website. It brings you to a page that displays undrafted players, as well as their attributes. You can get the site to rank the players for you in the order of your preference by using the "Custom Formulas" part of the page. If you value shot power for forwards, then increase the value under ShP and click "Use Custom Formulas".. the page will reload using the formulas you specified and rank the players for you... The "Bias" is a multiplier. If you want to double the value of defensemen, set the bias for defensement to 2.. or 1.5 for +50%.. etc. Play with it, it'll make sense. Or you can simply click "ShP" in the lower table to just order by that attribute. If you want to use Excel, then click the "[Excel] blitz_nhl94_players.xls" link on the View Players page. Are there deadlines? The draft is too slow! For rounds 1-7, deadlines are pretty lax, in order to let people make good picks. I put in deadlines for people if they are being too slow. It's typically something like "if it's the 4th round, your pick is due at most 24 hours after the person 4 picks ahead of you made a pick". So, you need to check the site at least once every 24 hours should provide a list to someone if your pick is coming up. For rounds 8-10, deadlines will be in 30-minute increments, known ahead of time. For rounds 11-12, deadlines will be in 15-minute increments, known ahead of time. Protection rounds are 24 hours. No in-line protection round this season. What happens when someone misses a deadline? If a coach misses a deadline, they'll be skipped. They can make their pick at any time, but so can the coaches after them (in order). If 12 picks go by and they still haven't picked or the draft reaches a protection round, I'll pick someone for them. I won't be around to make my pick. Can I send you a list of players to draft/protect for me? Yes, you can. Please send me, or someone else who is online a lot, a private message (PM) through the forum with your instructions. For me, don't send just an AIM message. PM is better for me because it gives me a "paper trail" to refer to no matter what computer I'm at. I see a "Pick List" feature on the website. What is that? This feature was supposed to automatically make picks for you if you wanted it to, but I never finished it. But you can still use it as a place to store your desired picks for your own reference. The log-in is the same as for making your pick. If you want me to make picks according to your pick list, I can do that, but you need to send me a forum PM so I know to check your list. kingraph
Will there be a trade window before we have to make our 2/4/6/8/10/12 protection picks? Since we're doing it all upfront, there might be a lot of potential trading going on since we'll have half of our players. Or we'll know if we have a protection pick that we'd rather not use (clean house!) Speaking of, will we still be able to trade for a protection pick? So after the 1st round I can say something like I trade my 5th pick (5.xx) to someone for their 4th protect? Sicarius
Also, can we make trades for future considerations? No, you have to choose a person from your team to protect (like a "keeper"). Also, you wouldn't know who everybody protected until all the picks have been made. Then it's revealed...sort of like we all pick at once. Disregard the draft order for protection rounds. For this year, after the 1st round, you'll be given a list of your current players that weren't selected in the 1st round, and which round you can choose to protect them, based on prior drafts. Then you make all your keepers up front. Edited March 26, 2012 by kingraph

kingraph
I would read here about last years trading rules. I am sure it wouldn't be too different. I guess I'm more concerned about the time -- in the old way, you can start making trade ideas for protection picks, etc. as it goes. Now, with everything happening all at once upfront, I just don't know if 24hrs is enough time to deal around.

chaos
If we are picking all of our protection picks after the 1st round, how is the draft going to be 12 rounds. Wouldn't it be 7 (6 protect picks 1 round, 6 draft rounds)?

smozoma
Unfortunately I actually don't have time to clear everything up tonight... and houli just pointed out a bit of a problem with the way this works if you actually want to pick the 3rd best guy on a team in the first round I'm going to pause the draft for tonight and generate the protection lists so people know what they have to work with.. So, the draft page for making a pick will be offline. You can still access the other draft info using this link: http://blitz94.com/draftab/viewpicks.asp Is this how it is every draft? I was all pumped yesterday watching who everyone was picking.............until we got to pick 7 & all the excitement gradually drained out of me. lol Since it's the 1st round, I don't really enforce deadlines. Habs hasn't been (signed in) on the forums in almost a week, though. hmm... hopefully he does pick soon. Yes, you'll be able to trade picks for protections. Hm, I'll put out the lists either late tonight, or tomorrow evening. You can make trades during the first round. For the protection picks, we'll have something like a 24-hour period to sort things out. So it's best to sort out potential trades before the 1st round is over if possible. When we get to the 2nd round, can you draft people that haven't been protected yet? Say just for example that King you pick 3rd and I pick 2nd. In the 2nd round could I draft a player from your team from last year since you haven't protected them yet?? They will be protecting 5 players once the 1st round is done, and you can't draft those players. You can draft the other ~6 players they didn't protect and haven't been drafted yet. Also, can we make trades for future considerations? Like can I get Xdeath's 1st round pick for a future consideration of a cheeseburger? I may throw in some future fries in as well. I don't like this because you don't know if the guy will give you a fair deal, and then there will be arguments that no one wants to deal with. No future considerations. Do guys get an PM or email or anything when it's their turn to pick? "usually" When you make your pick, YOU should notify the next guy that it is his turn, and it is also nice to also contact the guy after him so he knows he's coming up. I used to send out PMs to the next 4-5 guys once in a while, but I won't be doing that this season. Someone can volunteer and do it. I guess I'm more concerned about the time -- in the old way, you can start making trade ideas for protection picks, etc. as it goes. Now, with everything happening all at once upfront, I just don't know if 24hrs is enough time to deal around. There is the time leading up to the 2nd round. I'll get the lists out as soon as I can (before 8pm tomorrow, possibly late tonight). If we are picking all of our protection picks after the 1st round, how is the draft going to be 12 rounds. Wouldn't it be 7 (6 protect picks 1 round, 6 draft rounds)? Right, I worded that not goodly. There are 5 protections and 7 draft rounds. I'm gone now until about midnight, sorry.
