February 23rd 2019 Edge of 94 WI Presents, Barry Melrose Place(Tecmo Super Bowl February 22nd)
I can vouch that the Hotel J was a quality hotel (and was very reasonably priced to boot), and there is a McD's basically across the parking lot. Also, when @Edge of 94' WI says the Edge VR Arcade is a 2 minute walk, I'd say that's pretty generous. It's 2 doors down from the hotel, and would take you longer to drive than to walk. Was a great tournament last year. Fun group in GB, and Troy is an excellent host. There, Troy now owes me a beer.

Tournament Format
I remember it like it was yesterday. Get your game on TomKabs, NHL94 tournament next summer somewhere around Oakville - and then an NHL95 tourney in Toronto 2020.

Tournament Format
You need a reasonable entry fee for a few good reasons: It weeds out no-shows It tempts high-end players to travel/attend Too high, and you won't get mid-tier players As for a consolation tournament, or B-side. I don't think this should be the responsibility of the tournament organizers. However, if there are a few guys willing to volunteer their time, and the organizer is willing to allow the use of the equipment - I don't see an issue. As for not getting enough games - I didn't find any issue finding games, side games, 2v2, whatever at either of the tournaments I attended. Tournament play is fun, but the games that happen the day before, night of, day after are just as fun. Jer

2018 Classic Fall League
@kingraph still needs to sign-up. @CoachMac too. I'd like to test both GENS/SNES on Retroarch - if it's simple enough, I would consider signing up for both systems.

Jeremy Roenick's "Hard-Hitting and Fearless" Biography
He does mention it, as he is quite proud of being a video game celebrity. Became friends with Vince Vaughn because of it. @smozoma his dislike for Reichel was because he asked for his season-end physical before a game 7 - so that in case the team lost, he could fly home.

NHL 93 2 on 2
2v2 with fighting and no goalie control.. that would be fun! Might be fighting involved if played live as well.

The Time is Now!
If we could somehow fuze @smozoma and @CoachMac, a lot of this would get done in a hurry.

The Time is Now!
This has been discussed in the past, creating a new "retro" hockey game. As far as leagues and stuff, I think we're all still really happy to be able to play these games online against each other. Still blows me away that guys were able to mod the game so that we could draft our own teams, and have online leagues. Love it.

Jeremy Roenick's "Hard-Hitting and Fearless" Biography
Just finished Roenick's biography this week, it was a quick read and is written exactly as you'd expect (including every appropriate or inappropriate f-bomb). He talks about growing up in Boston, his 15 minutes of college education, his rookie season in Chicago, and his career through Phoenix, Philadelphia and San Jose. He has good things to say about Tony Amonte, Mike Modano, and every goon that ever played on his teams. He even talks about the respect he felt for Derian Hatcher who broke his jaw with an elbow. He has bad things to say about Roman Chechmanek, Robert Reichel and Patrick Marleau - all of whom he considered gutless and non-playoff performers. He also has an entire chapter on the debacle that was the Wayne Gretzky led Coyotes. There are stories about the Olympic teams, including the infamous trashed hotel room. Stories of high-stakes team poker games, tips on sneaking into a hotel after curfew, and lots of chatter about the many coaches and captains that made him an impact player. Most surprising was the amount of respect he still gives Mike Keenan, but he insists that he understood what Keenan was trying to do - and credits him with molding him into an NHL star. I found my copy in the Bargain Books section for $6, which is roughly what I would have paid in late fees from the library. I would rate this book 3/5 hockey scars for literary achievement, but 6/5 scars for entertainment - as I said, exactly what you'd expect from Jeremy Roenick. Lots of pages to review on Google Books: [book preview]

View From the Booth (Fall 2018 DRAFT)
View From the Booth (Fall 2018 DRAFT) Fall, 2018 Welcome to the autumn edition of the official NHL94.com newsletter. We hope to keep everyone informed of all that is happening in our gaming scene, with a top-down look at events, leagues, forum happenings and Discord chatter. The view from the broadcast booth is often worse than some cheap seats in the arena, but journalists require a sweeping vantage point to see everything that is happening in the game. It seemed a suitable name for a newsletter that hopes to provide a bird's eye view of NHL94 and all of it's retro hockey siblings, so take a minute to get caught up with this edition of View From the Booth . As the 2018-19 NHL season gets underway, the excitement of a new season of hockey is upon us. This can only mean one thing, NHL94Online Fall Classic is almost here! Time to dust off your favorite controller, and pull out your Hamachi/Gens cheatsheets and start practicing. Games can be requested on Discord, in the #exhibition-games chat. If you haven't played in Classic in a while, or are looking to register for the first time - join the Discord chat and introduce yourself [invite link]. The biggest news, of course, is the King of '94 tournament happening in Vancouver, BC October 28th. This is the third KO94 tournament (previously held in Toronto and Las Vegas), and the community couldn't be more excited. There is a large contingent of SNES players on the west coast, and the current SNES champ @Jammer - KO94IIsnes is a local. If Sega is your console of choice, you can also fight to be crowned King against reigning KO94 II champ @angryjay93. Registration is still open, visit www.kingof94.ca to register. Arda Orcal of the MSG Network will once again be tasked with voicing the stream, you can see and hear Arda's call in previous streams from KO94II-Las Vegas, and EdgeWI-Green Bay. This summer saw the creation of a couple of very unique leagues, the Genesis Summer Draft League and the Euro Classic 94 League. The Summer Draft League (aka jjs summer league), ran all summer with no set schedule, and included a double elimination play-off bracket. It was well-attended and well received, with a few suggestions thrown in for next summer. Forum member, and Classic veteran @jmj decided that laggy cross-Atlantic connections didn't need to put a damper on his enjoyment of NHL94 league play. He rounded up players from the "old continent", including players from Finland, France and Taiwan and started the EURO Classic '94 league. With a good core of players, I would be surprised if this type of league didn't continue to grow in future seasons. NHL 94 playlist
Perhaps an idea for future tournaments, or just for interest sake. If you could pick a single song to have play during a game on NHL94, what would it be? A few rules: 1. Must be a song from the era, no 2000's trash. No Spin Doctors. To keep it simple, I will accept songs from the 1990's or earlier. 2. First come first served, if your song is already picked please select your next favourite. 3. It can't be so obscure, that we can't find a version of it somewhere. 4. I'll keep a master list in this post Let'em rip. Jer

Rock the Rink (ps1)
I played this one back in the day, and have emulated it as well. It's fast-paced and fun, but the commentary and music get tiring. There was also barely any strategy to it other than hitting until you got a bonus, where you could basically score at will.

95 the year 2020
I should know this, but is there a 2v2 rom for NHL95?
