CaseBC
Genesis NHL'95 Programmer Mark Lesser did you want these big changes for '95? I see you programmed '95 but didn't design it so. Was it one of these people Michael Brook, Rob Martyn, Scott Probin, Scott Orr, Rob Harris, Colin McLaughlin or Nancy Waisanen wanting these changes? Why would they? Genesis NHL'95 Designer: Michael Brook Genesis NHL'95 Producer: Rob Martyn Genesis NHL'95 Associate Producer: Scott Probin Genesis NHL'95 Executive producer: Scott Orr Genesis NHL'95 Technical Director: Rob Harris Genesis NHL'95 Technical Director: Colin McLaughlin Genesis NHL'95 Art Director: Nancy Waisanen (What is with the big yellow penalty boxes?) Mark Lesser or anybody on this list or part of '94 do you feel like going back and starting the old NHL '94 hockey video game series up again? Or know anybody that can make this happen? Take the SNES and Genesis NHL '94 video game make little changes every year. Like drop pass, block pass, block shot, fake pass, fake shot and roster updates. Bring back the blood and fighting like (Hit the Ice) or (Blades of Steel) Put in close in face off feature like NHL HITZ PRO. bcrt2000
The truth is the real sequel to NHL 94 for SNES/Genesis was... NHL 95 for PC... and NHL 96 for PC was basically a 3D version of NHL 95. It would be nice if they created an XBLA version of NHL 92/93/94/95 (maybe with sliders which let you change how the game plays) which included fighting, 5on5 multiplayer and the latest rosters. JeffBC
Just to keep the '94 word out there. I was listening to the team 1040 AM last week and the radio station was at the EA camp at the Burnaby BC Canada location and they had players Jeremy Roenick and Dion Phaneuf there listening and talking on the radio station and so I called up and blasted EA on the radio show. I said EA has butchered the hockey video game series since '94 and they should go back to the mechanics of '94 and just add some features like drop pass, block shot and updated rosters. I did mention this website NHL94.com on the radio. I'm sure all of EA was listen when I was speaking. They have so many employees at EA you would think they could come out with 2 hockey video games a year. A '94 engine game and their '09 game where graphics mean more then overall gameplay. principalities
What's wrong with '95? Why do people bash it? I'll admit, they butchered the SNES version, they tried to make it like the GENS version. Cheap goals ranging from full rink to easily crashing the goalie, but the GENS version is way better than 94. It almost ties with SNES '94. GENS '95 fixed '94 problems, sure it's still a party of deflections, but the AI is way better. They eliminated majority of the money shots, that stupid trick that 99% of people have to rely on to score is not effective in '95. Aha, that's why people hate it. Minor things were added like being able to abort game, and to select which side you want to be on. Create a player, play a full season, awards ceremony, fake shots, drop passes, and lying down to block. The GENS '94 players have nothing to complain about, GENS '95 is not perfect, money shots still exist, but '95 is superior. Back in the day, GENS '95 was rated very high by all publications, too bad the same cannot be said about the SNES version.

Three Stars
NHL Hockey 95 for PC is my personal favorite, just for the sheer customizability. I bought several of the later games (96, 98, 2002), but they never kept me interested as long as 95. Heck, I'm still designing jerseys for 95. I played a lot of NHL 95 for Genesis in college. I never found it as terrible as some people here.
Triumph
NHL94 has lots of problems - we just forget about them because the game's so damn fun. Having played NHL95 for PC first for years before playing 94, I did not play with manual goalie - in 94, the goals that are let in are arbitrary and easy to score (one-timers are hard for the goalies to stop from almost anywhere in the offensive zone), especially when you consider that defense is a totally random event - sometimes the player will be checked down, sometimes he will bounce right off. There's too many breakaways and too many penalty shots. The wrist shot, against the computer/automatic goalie, is a difficult scoring play (which I haven't mastered). Now I'm pretty sure that the NHL94 you guys play is totally different than what I'm playing, you're better at defense, you don't play with line changes (from what I can tell), and with the manual goalie, obviously the backhand-across-the-crease play doesn't work. If NHL95 for PC had manual goalie (and internet play, I suppose) it would be by far the superior game - trades, player creation, 4 lines, 5 minute majors, the expansion teams with full rosters, checking that works, digitized speech, less annoying music (goddamn how annoying is it when one player is the sabres or whalers and keeps scoring in 94). Is there anyways is downloadable? http://www.abandonware-paradise.org/godown...-Nhl95.zip.html if that doesn't work, google it, click on first link, and just keep following instructions. some of them are in french. works best on DOSBox with 10000 cycles (hit ctrl-f12 6 or 7 times before playing) there's also a roster update in the nhl95 forum but it lacks the magic of evgeny davydov. Bob Kudelski
I remember buying NHL '95 for PC back around 1998 or 1999. It had the regular nhl 95 cover art, but it was bordered by gold and was called an "EA Classic Title" or something like that. I bought it because it looked like NHL '94, but like the previous poster said, it had 4 lines, season mode, trades, edit or create a player?, etc. I think it even had a ref on the ice that you could actually run into (but my memory is fuzzy on that one). I remember updating my Sens roster to include guys like Sergei Zholtok and Denny Lambert. The thing that made it good though was that the gameplay wasn't like NHL 95 on SNES, it was much closer to NHL '94 on SNES. It was pretty sweet, but the gameplay wasn't quite as sweet as NHL'94 on SNES. I should have the CD lying around the house somewhere so maybe I will have a look for it one of these days, and give it a whirl. Is it available for download? Triumph
yeah it is kudelski: http://tinyurl.com/44s9gc - click on the link that says 'Telecharger', and follow the instructions. I also recently bought a copy of it on ebay. and yes, there was a ref you could run into. 3 hits on him and your guy got tossed for abuse of official. pretty classic, i lost peter bondra in a game 7 'cause of that. anyway as for case, that youtube link looks like it's computer vs. computer or moron vs. computer. the game is generally faster than that, and even so, the slowness of the game allows for more subtlety, angling your man away from oncoming checks, avoiding stick checks, finding passing lanes. i wish i played nhl94 at the level you guys do so i could truly compare, but nhl94 seems to be a game more about pushing buttons and reflexes than it does setting up these longer and more complex plays that high level nhl95 for PC requires.
