I downloaded the Sega Genesis version of this since, in theory, it's the latest, greatest NHL game of the 16 bit era. Just plug and play against the computer, it seems pretty fast and smooth. The only exception is the now outdated 2 line pass. Are there any hacks/updates for 98?

Hey everyone, I've been working on NHL 98 update to the rom. I don't really understand why 96, 97 and 98 are always ignored. I personally love the season mode for these games. Anyways, I have updated all the ice rink logos, the screen select logos, I got rid of the all-stars, Europe, USA and Canada and replaced them with Vegas, Nashville, Winnepeg, and Seattle. I also replaced Phoenix with Utah. The rosters are updated as of yesterday but the hill I have to climb now is the player ratings on everyone. One thing I cannot figure out is how to change or update the team select ratings. Does anyone have an idea? It's not a big deal if I can't change them but it would be nice,…

Hello everyone, my name is Sergey, and I'm from Moscow, Russia. I did a lot of work, checked the weight of each player, changed the stick grip to the correct one. Especially had to tinker with the goalkeepers. For some reason all the goalkeepers in NHL 98 were initially wrong. Also adjusted the characteristics based on the actual achievements of the players in the seasons 95/96, 96/97 and 97/98. Some players have had their positions on the field changed. I hope that players who played NHL 98 on the Sega Mega Drive 2 in the year the game was released will find it interesting to try the version that has been fixed. Hello guys, I'm new here but have some years of experience in NHL-Modding since the mid 2000s. Some weeks ago, I managed to run NHL 98 on my Win11-Notebook. So far so good, but when checking the custom-masks of each team, I realized that Dallas (Belfours Eagle mask) and Toronto (Potvins Cat mask) were missing. From my time back as NHL-modder, i have the custom mask-templates of Belfour and Potvin and wanted to import them to NHL 98 using EA Graph Editor, as BIGGUI does not work. Whenever I open a NHL 98 .viv-file with BIGGUI, i get the error message "invalid header". Working with EA Graph was no problem. I imported the .bmp-mask-file and replaced the origi…

I had the bright idea of making a mod of NHL 98 where all the players are fictional. Here's what I have as of now.

I was playing NHL '98 for Sega and I noticed that Brett Hull was listed as a lefty. We all know he could not have scored 700+ goals where he was positioned if he was a left handed shot. I went ahead and modified his hex value for all instances of his character (STL/ASW). I know there are others on this forum that are like "is that it???", but I couldn't let an injustice go untouched. I guess this is what happens when EA outsources to THQ and they focus on PS1/PC versions of the game. UPDATE: I also fixed Chris Pronger, who was listed as a Righty, even though he was a Lefty in real life. I'm sure he could do all that dirty stuff as a righty, but I fixed the is…

NHL 98 with current rosters, as of today, 08/06/17. A few things to note. All I did was I used NOSE to copy rosters and some jerseys from other roms which have been posted here already, so thanks to naples, skip, slapshot, and thetome (also wboy for creating nose, it's awesome) I trust you don't mind, as it seems to be a good community here. I did a few players and jerseys myself, but not much. Lines are accurate as well. As this is based on the 98 game, there are teams missing. Vegas, obviously, and also Winnipeg, Minnesota, Nashville, and Columbus. The divisions are all fucky too, just like they were back in the day. I really wish Winnipeg and Minnesot…

Title says it all. Post screenshots or videos of a glitch that you have found while playing NHL '98, it may be any version of the game that you know of or touch on a normal basis. Below is the Infinite Power Play Glitch in my NTSC~J Region MIAA Setup Hack of the Megadrive version. When this glitch happens, the code that is used to register that the player's penalty is over does not get triggered, thus keeping the Power Play Timer endlessly at 00:00; this could be extremely bad for those who play this in Original Game and Full Game Mode, as I do with the Bonus Teams, this is one of the oddest yet most painful of glitches out there to handle. Extra audio that is use…

so ive been playing around with penalties in 98... you can give 2 minute penalties for offsides and icing and faceoffs, kinda fun when a goalie covers the puck he gets a penalty and skates to the box as for fighting... there is only 1 fight per game in 5,10,20 min doesnt matter also the rating system is backwards, in NOSE theres the category "roughness" well the toughguys have a lower number 1 or 2... and the sissys have a 5 or 6 so im thinking what "roughness" actually is... is AVOID PENALTY or like composure ... umm whats another word AND when comparing to 94 its the opposite... toughguys will have a higher number (with s…

Now, as the lot of you that have played the series already know by now, assuming that you have messed around with emulation as much as I have over the years, NHL Hockey '92 to NHL '97 appear to be able to be played on a Japanese Megadrive or Megadrive 02 without any factors regarding Regional Lockout. In emulation, the ROM images for those six titles may be played with the regional setting left on Japan (NTSC), you would be able to play it without the worry of yourself getting a Regional Lockout notice. NHL '98, however, is not made with Region Free usage in mind, unless you are probably using the Mega Everdrive on a European or Japanese Megadrive console, or through me…

One of my favourite NHL games ever. Also probably because we were able to make online leagues for this the first time properly. Set up your own web page, update trades during season, 20+ players constantly etc. Also legendary intro! Are you afraid of the masked man? I liked these menu tunes as well, especially menu 2, 5 & Loss theme. The enthusiasm on this one got once to a point that I ruined a relationship I had with a girl by prioritizing NHL'98 and the online leagues above her, haha. It was so new and to get to the open world competition was overwhelming.

Please forgive my n00b-ish-ness, but I've looked everywhere I know to look and have yet to come across a "current" version of NHL'98 for Gens. Does such a thing even exist? If so, can I get a link? Thanks

I saw NHL 98 at a local thrift store for 3 bucks. I read online that you can actually slow the speed down on this game. Does that make it anything more like NHL '94?

I started to make a rom edit of NHL 98 with the roster the next season (2008-2009) and got the rosters to the Ducks (in game), Red Wings, and the Oilers. and nedd some help find the depth carts for some of the teams. Here's a photo of the the Ducks Roster: I still need to put the team's logos in, and the the player's numbers.
