Hey guys, Here is the updated ROM with the 2017-18 rosters. I'll add more details later, but if you're new to updated ROMs: -This is a 32-team ROM (updated teams, player cards and graphics by Slapshot67) -Updated rosters for 2017-18 season (rosters by Skip). Lines were accurate as of 10/8 (except for Vegas). Went ahead with Vegas "best lines" -Weight bug is fixed (heavy guys are harder to knock down) -1 minute penalties (except for injuries = 2 min penalty) KNOWN BUG: The menu screen will freeze if the player cards begin to cycle for team #31 - Winnipeg. This really was a fun ROM to put together. We hope you enjoy! NOTE: The tourney ROM has continuous OT. I ran some simulations with the ROM (w/ 7 minute periods) and teams were getting 30 shots on goal. It was actually not bad to watch! -Skip NHL18skipV1.zip NHL18tourneyV1.zip

UPDATE: I'm dropping an updated version of my ROM rosters as of 12/15 (ish). I've been picking at the rom continuously, and this mostly a ratings update for how certain guys are performing this year, with updated starting lineups/ photos as well (some teams like Vegas, STL really needed updates!). So I've hardly any time to test, but the time is now for release. Details: -All 31 NHL teams with up-to-date logos/uniforms/lines/ratings (thank you slapshot!) -player portraits for all no-line-change starters -custom/anniversary center ice logos for teams that use them this year (CAR, DAL, TB, DET, NYR...) -Weight bug fix -speed burst at 75% of original rom -accurate arena music per team (default in slapshot 32-team rom) -ice/bench graphic hacks (default in slapshot 32-team rom) -known bug with 32-team rom -- GAME WILL CRASH IF CYCLING THROUGH WPG (TEAM 31) PORTRAITS ON MAIN MENU Please let me know if you find any bugs or errors. Enjoy! EDIT: Re-upped v 1.1 with minor roster/player tweaks and corrections. Barring any major problems, this is final release. I was waiting to announce this, but me and my team of artists I have completely re-done the game in unreal engine with polygonal graphics. With a little extra work, we will also have photorealistic coaches on the bench, 4 officials on the ice, and accurate team goal horns. Also adding AHL, KHL, SHL, and national teams. 50/50 if we can have every NCAA team as well. ROM will be free and 512kb download.

UPDATE: NHL20 V2 has been added to the BOTTOM OF THIS ORIGINAL POST - (excel sheet in zipped folder). Player rating and roster updates, player card changes (thanks Slapshot!), line change updates, team rating adjustments. I will update the playoff brackets on the trade deadline edition. Be careful, the original ROM is still above the screenshots (new ROM at bottom). Slapshot also added the board sound patch courtesy of Brodeur30. Hello, Here is the NHL94 ROM, updated for the 2019-20 season by me & Slapshot. Special thanks to @slapshot67 for his work on graphics and player cards! Below you'll find the ROM and Excel sheet. Excel is in the zip folder, which shows player ratings, "Skip's ratings", etc. Player rating updates based on last year's performance, roster changes, some new player cards, playoff brackets to reflect actual 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Let me know if you find any errors! Notes: -This is the 32-team ROM (updated teams, logos, player cards and graphics by Slapshot67). -Updated team rosters for 2019-20 season (rosters and player ratings by Skip). The 32nd team is still the NHL'94 Hall of Fame team, with original NHL94 ratings! -Weight bug is fixed (heavy guys are harder to knock down), and this ROM uses weight + checking = hitting ability -1 minute penalties (except for injuries = 2 min penalty). You can do 5, 7, 10 or 20 minute periods. -Hot/Cold is accurate in the pre-game screen and in edit lines. NEW for 2020 ROM: 50th anniversary center ice logos for Buffalo & Vancouver. ROSTER NOTES: 3rd line is usually a mashup of best players on a team's real 3rd & 4th lines. Tried to keep scoring lines as they are in real life, or how they "should be" when players return from injury. Dustin Byfuglien is not included on Winnipeg's roster. KNOWN BUG: The menu screen will freeze if the player cards begin to cycle for team #31 - Winnipeg. There is no known fix for this. TOURNEY ROM has continuous OT. The regular ROM has 5 minute OT. (I'll add this later) Zip folder has excel sheet with all players listed, including the NHL94 HHOF All-Stars roster, and Ratings list for all 32 teams. -Skip NHL20.bin NHL20excel.zip NHL20v2skip.zip NHL20v2.bin

Wanted to wait for the dust to settle a bit and give myself a little time to reflect on the event before I offered my thoughts. First and foremost, to the man, the myth. the legend, @halifax: I tried my best to arrive a little early on Saturday to help out in the event that you needed any of the CRTs' I brought, or the consoles and controllers. But when I arrived, everything was already well in hand. That's a testament to how well everything was laid out and planned for. Even with all the moving parts you had to deal with, it never seemed stressful. I know I thanked you profusely for setting everything up and hosting a great event and I meant it. Everyone here really appreciates you and the amount of effort and dedication it took to pull everything together. The fact that we couldn't drink and the food truck didn't come through is unfortunate, but that's just life. Can't expect everything to be perfect. Really enjoyed our series as well, though it's tough to lose on a penalty shot like that. I felt like the '94 gods were smiling on me after you had 3 penalty shots in game 2. I think I spent all my beginners luck on our series as @Fed tuned me up pretty good in the next round. I can't say I'd do nearly as well if saddled with the same task of running this tournament. We are all fortunate to have you as a leader of this community. Great job; you have a lot to be proud of. To the current belt holder and Genesis NHL'94 champion, @kingraph, congrats on your first of what will probably be many titles! I know there's a lot of pressure and expectations coming in with you being one of the most feared and revered players and you rose to the occasion big time. It was a treat to watch you play on the big screen in the greatest NHL'94 series I've ever had the pleasure of watching. You're a great guy and I enjoyed chatting with you as well. @angryjay93 getting that 3-peat would have been epic, but you're a legendary player nonetheless and it was great to watch you in the finals and pick your brain a bit on the game. I've had a chance to see the final game 7 a few times from the stream as well. Bit of a bad break in OT with the mass of humanity that was right inside the blue line above the left face-off circle. Looked like you were going to get a break out of the zone but the puck squirted free and Sakic got that one-timer off from the high in the slot; it's a 50/50 chance of being a goal. Didn't want to see either of you lose but we could't ask for anything more than a game 7 in OT with you two. The 2on2 marathon session till 5am was a blast and I was in stitches. I probably would have needed a doctor had I laughed any harder. Great to finally meet you as well. Great guy. @smozoma it was great to play against you in our series and finally meet you after all of the help you've given me over the years. I don't think we've played in a playoff-type scenario since 2009 in the NHL91.com playoffs. Really felt like I had you dead to rights after our first game, but you battled back and overcame a two goal deficit to send me to the losers bracket. Yuuuuge upset against Raph as well. I know all of us were pulling for you to go deep and maybe even into the finals. It felt like it was your day at one point in the tournament and you were gonna be the cinderella story of KO94-4. Great job with the brackets and taking care of all the hardware related issues, too. You're a pillar in the community and I can't imagine what it would be like without you here and all that you've contributed to this game. @IAmFleury'sHipCheck one of the big highlights of KO94-4 was finally meeting you and being able to hang out. It's easy to see why you're so well liked. The, 'EA special' was in full effect in our series and I didn't have an answer for it! At least I got a pass shot by you from center ice, which is somewhat redeeming. I never play well with Calgary for some strange reason. Have to think that having all of those exis with AJ played some part in that. Awesome personality, awesome guy. Can't wait to see you in the next one. @Coffey excellent job with the stream. Hiccups always happen during these type of events but it turned out great and it really added to the atmosphere. Helping you get that big CRT in your car it really hit me how much you had to do for this. Thanks so much. Seeing you rotate jerseys throughout the event was really cool, too. Would love to have the chance to do a little color commentary on the stream next time around. @jer_33 @aqualizard @AtomicRaven @stantanator great to meet you guys and chat a bit. Everyone was really laid back and easy to talk to. Hope to see you in the next one! Also, Stanton better have his legal name change to Stantonator complete by KO94-5. @Mikail, whose forum handle I can't remember. What a stone cold killer! I remember talking to some of the SNES buds and how everyone was saying that the field was pretty wide open during the tournament. Apparently not! Watching him chilln-like-a-villain leading up to the finals with @DAF he was on his own, eerily silent. I just gave him a wide berth so he could focus on getting ready. And even with his hand cramping up he still swept a great player like DAF. I chatted with him for about 10 mins after the final since I really don't know the guy at all and was curious as to how he picked up the game and got so good at it. He told me, growing up, he played his brother and his brothers friend every time he played. So, it was actually two-on-one every game! He said that, "they would just screen the goalie and I had to find a way to win." If that isn't a proving ground for getting great at NHL'94, I don't know what is. He also said on stage that he, "has the bug and wants to play online." If there's anyway I can talk you into partaking in the Genesis side, I'd be happy to . Super nice guy, well deserved win on your second title. Congrats. @Bob Kudelski @Fed @annatar really enjoyed chatting and playing with the SNES buds. I have a lot to learn but I did enjoy the games I played. I will work on my game in hopes of being more than cannon fodder for top level players on Super next time around. @Slapshotsean @Mort @DPS great to hang with you guys. Congrats on winning the Jam title. You guys are absolute gamers, balls to the wall. The 2on2 session till 5am was worth the trip alone for me. You guys have to be there next time. @CamKneely always a brides maid never a bride no more. Congrats on being the inaugural and reigning Duke of 94 champ! Even if it did feel kinda like I was watching you play quarterback for playground kids on both teams. Sorry I could't get some 2on2 games in with the two time 2on2 champs. We didn't get going until after midnight and you had to be at work the next day. Great to finally meet you and we gotta have you back at the next one. @segathon it's not too late to join us. There is still good in you. I can feel it. As far as the venue goes, I thought the stage and broadcast/stream booth really added to the gravitas of the games, and being able to sit back and watch the tournament unfold on the big screen was awesome. It really felt like a legit eSporting event. I'm not sure where the next one will be held but it will be tough to top that aspect after playing on a big stage. Big props to Waves, they were very accommodating and I hope they have big success with their facility into the future. I'd really like to help out more next time around. If it's more hardware, or whatever, you can count on me. I'm great with design and can design t-shirts, promo vids, logos or whatever need be. I just want to make sure this keeps rolling along. Will definitely contribute more to the raffle next time as well. Would have liked to get some 2on2 going for Genesis and SNES during KO94-4, though there really wasn't any time for it. Please delegate the task to me for managing a 2on2 tournament if it's too much to handle in addition to the classic tournament. It could be interspersed during classic games in bracket play if we want to add it. I'll bring all necessary hardware so that 8 players can play at a time. To all the great guys I've played and chatted with over the years that I didn't get to meet: @donnybrook @HABS @Freydey @Zalex @IceStorm70 @CoachMac @Evan @Brutus @Uncle Seth @kgman @chaos @McMikey @The Russian Rocket @hokkeefan @skip @slapshot67 @mack and others that I haven't mentioned because this post is entirely too long. You guys are sorely missed and I really hope you can make it out to the next one. Also, I will spare no blood or treasure to get @wboy to one of these. I'll wrap up by mentioning that some of the community members said they were eager to finally meet me and have me as a part of KO94-4. It was a bit humbling and overwhelming for sure. I hope I didn't disappoint anyone. All I can really say is, I'm just a big kid who hasn't outgrown his love for this game and I hope I never do. ggs

Hey everyone, I've been working behind the scenes the last month or so to get an NHL '94 Youtube channel and live stream going. On this channel I hope to provide content on the following items: -Live Game Analysis -Team Breakdowns -How to Videos -Challenges vs. Computer -Various other items that may arise While my Youtube channel may not quite be ready to start producing regular content, I have been working on some test footage which I have just posted this morning. This test footage consists chiefly of some games with MikeGartner that I played at CoachMac's house last night. What make this footage different from regular game recordings is that this footage also has Coach and I on camera analyzing the game as it plays out. While we have had commentators at our live events, I don't think we've ever had the game broken down by the person playing it as it goes on. I'm hoping this unique angle of live analysis gives other people better insight of the action. I just uploaded a couple videos; one contains myself and Mike Gartner playing 5 summer league games with the 2nd containing an exhibition game between Coach Mac & Mike Gartner, you can use the links below to view it on Youtube. A lot of this is a work in progress and will improve over time but I think it's a good first step. One thing I would really appreciate in all of this is the input and support of the community. In the end I want this content to be an extension of us and our community so it is vital that you guys get involved. How you can get involved can take various forms. The first thing that can be done is so subscribe to the channel and if you want to go a little further by commenting on my videos or giving a thumbs up (or thumbs down) then that would be really helpful. Also, please feel free to send me a PM, e-mail, or post on the forums requesting a video on a specific subject. I'm open to helping anyone with anything because I want to help the level of play here continue to rise. I also want to help anyone who is either getting back into the game after a long break or who is a total noob. Oh and before I forget, don't fret my SNES buds, I plan on having SNES specific content as well. You will not be forgotten in all of this. So again, things are a work in progress here and it will get better moving forward. If you get the chance, please check out the videos, I would appreciate any support I get from the community here to help this project grow. And oh, one last thing before I go. Coach and I also tested out the live stream by playing our 10 summer league games. Please feel free to check it out and leave a comment! https://youtu.be/02Z3Agp7aHk

Hey guys, here is the 2017 Trade Deadline ROM! I hope you like it. Slapshot67 - Thanks for everything! **EDIT - I added a playoff version of the ROM. Has a few changes to rosters (tried to get all players playing in the playoffs right now), but it also has the real tourney tree instead of the projected tree, as an option. I made penalties 1 minute long (except for double-minors). Enjoy! Updates for 2017 ROMs - All are WBF (Blitz style) ROMs -Player Cards for every starter on every team -Added Anniversary logos for Toronto, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Los Angeles -Bench Graphics (backup goalie, coach) & Bench Carpet -Goal Light -Net Fix -Ratings changes for teams & players (excel file w/ ratings in zip folder) -Added a few playoff matchups based on this year's current standings -The Excel file will give you all of the player ratings, with an extra rating that shows how likely a check will be successful with a player. It uses weight + checking rating to give a "checking ability". Somebody figured out that a check is likely to be successful if they check a player with a weight a full digit lower than the checking ability. For example: PK Subban has a 8.9 checking ability (slightly abv average for a Dman), Shea Weber has a 14.1 (really high), and Erik Karlsson has a 5.4 (pretty low). If Subban attempts to check an 8 weight, he may have some issues, but he will usually knock down a 7 weight. Weber can knock down anyone 13 weight or lower, so he is the beast. Karlsson will have trouble knocking over anyone who isn't Johnny Gaudreau (not literally, but he will not be a C checking player). NHL17TradeDeadline.bin NHL17skipDeadlineFinal.zip NHL17Playoffs.bin

This thread will be my notes and attempt to expand NHL'95 to a 34 team ROM. Before I start, I'd like to thank @wboy, @slapshot67, and @smozoma up front, as just about all of my hacking knowledge has come from them. I will try to give credit where appropriate, but 95% of this will be one of those guys. So my initial thoughts are as follows: Expand the '95 ROM from 2MB to 4MB to create room for more teams, graphics: Not needed, enough empty space to use in 2MB. Also going over 2MB creates RAM issues. Find the team data and move it to a new spot in the expanded ROM. Create data for 34 teams: DONE! Change the team pointers to the new data: DONE! "Decompress" graphics (logos, banners, player cards, etc.) - DONE! Change pointers to the new graphics - DONE! Make '95 recognize the new teams/graphics, able to select in menu - DONE! Figure out how the season data works, incorporate into 34 teams - WIP Same with trade player and other unknown '95 stuff ADD: Music, figure out how to make sure the music works for new teams - DONE! So here goes. I expect this to be a pretty long project, with many bumps along the way, but ultimately fun.

I just published an interview with Michael J. Sokyrka, who did much of the music for NHL '94. You can see it here: http://puckjunk.com/2018/12/21/interview-michael-j-sokyrka-nhl-94-music-composer/ Thanks for reading!

I did not make any quotes that made the teaser, BUT! I just re-watched it and noticed that my Sega and NHL94 cartdrige -- which has a #2 on it and a strawberry sticker (so I would know it was mine when it came time to collect) -- is showcased for over 2 seconds, halfway through, in a closeup. NAILED IT!!! Just showed the wife and my kid and they had no reaction.

This is the last version my ROM edit from pixelpuck.com (RIP) around 2013. There is an NHL91.com ROM on the master list, however, I believe this may be from the Season 2 draft, when @angryjay93 beat @Freydey in 5 games. Here are some way-back pics of the blog from season 2: Okay, as to the new update from around 2013, here are the biggest changes: FEATURES: Scanned media guide photos from 90-91 for every player card. Remastered sprite fields two colors for helmets and one for sleeve piping for the most accurate uniforms possible [HUDB]. Meticulously rated, NHL players from after the 90-91 trade deadline, completely overhauled from the original ROM edit. 26 man rosters: 15 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goalies. Team ratings based on team performance (home PTS %), road warrior rating (away PTS %), special teams (PP% – PPGF, and PK% – PKGAA), offensive prowess (GF/G and GF), defensive stoutness (GAA) [EARE]. New control read method. Goalie control is now mapped to the (Y) button. Controls must be calibrated to the 6 button configuration to use this feature. [SpritesMind] Refined system that narrows attribute increments for more accurate player ratings. NHL91 splash screens. NHL91 logo for the Zamboni and team selection. NHL91 timer logo. 90-91 crease and improved nets. New font. Checking – speed burst multiplier adjustment. Adjusted fatigue meters. Hot – cold ratings fix. Weight bug fix. Assist bug fix. Puck-drop organ tunes have been matched to the correct teams A longer, louder, different sounding goal horn that more closely resembles the ones used in current NHL arenas [YT]. NHL 90-91 Recap Penguins Win 8-0 in Game 6 @ Minnesota to win their first Stanley Cup Brett Hull scores 86 goals 4 players score more than 50 goals Guy Lafleur plays his last NHL game with Quebec Several future, and potential future, HOFers played their first NHL games Fedorov Recchi Hasek Jagr Bondra Sundin All-Star Game is held in Chicago. Super Series took place between three Soviet teams (CSKA Moscow, Dynamo Moscow, Khimik Voskresensk) and the NHL. The Soviets won the series 12-6-3 Chicago wins The Presidents Trophy and is bounced in the division semis by Minnesota in 6 games Art Ross goes to Gretzky Norris goes to Bourque Vezina goes to Belfour Conn Smythe goes to Lemieux who missed more than 50 games Hartford Whalers don't even know that they're moving to Carolina in a few seasons and are too busy enjoying one of the best logos of all-time to notice No one in the hockey world knows who Gary Bettman is and everyone is thankful Also, a bunch of other stuff happened and it was all pretty cool since it was the 90s' Notes Speed burst is cut in 1/2. You really have to line up your checks and breakaways are harder to chase down if you get caught pinching Ratings are more akin to EA's current games, and as a result the game plays better with line changes Endurance is greatly reduced as well, one or two scoring chances and you'll need to go for a change or your line will be out of gas, which forces you to roll lines NHL91pixelpuck.bin 2 MB · 0 downloads

Don't mean to take any thunder away from @skip & @slapshot67 NHL20 rom (seriously, go download it), but I'm going through my old files and forgot about some of this stuff. All the skaters from the league on the site had their own stat pages with their ratings, which can't be displayed here, but I can share the hockey card scans. I cut out every skater and stylized them in the theme of the site. Some samples below: Anderson Whitmore Roy Hextall Sakic Olcyzk Roenick Yzerman Bure (Super Series - Moscow Central Red Army) Each team had it's own stylized login screen as well. The blog would rotate background images, too. North Stars login Blues login One of the random blog backgrounds that would rotate (half of Hulls' missing foot would have been covered by content) Also made a jacket insert for a Genesis box, and cart sticker for the game Have a bunch of stuff that I want to post, like the sprite patch so that this stuff is on the forums. As an aside, I just noticed that Wboys' hexaddicts.com was available for registration so I picked it up. Should be able to get the old pages back from archive.orgs' Wayback machine.

PROS The Jeremy Roenick personalized message before the start of the tourney Could someone please share that story of how that came to be???????? @halifax Venue So many CRTs (that were all a worthy size, nothing too small) – loved it and I know that’s hard to come by (thank you Smash community) Lighting was ideal for play Streaming booth was a great setup – location was nice but that equipment was a huge thanks to Sroka @Coffey to making that happen EWaves Staff was super friendly – Laura couldn’t have been nicer and has an incredible passion for everything gaming. (Side story -- she left the Gens tourney a little early and even went home and watched the stream there. How cool is that?) I loved the big screen to watch the stream with all the sectionals in front to comfortably watch the games The video game chairs were extremely comfortable to play in (it was a nice touch for the entire experience) 2-day format First time going to the 2 day format and I have to say, I liked it a lot. At any other Kof94 with both consoles going at the same time, I never got to spend any amount of time with the snes guys outside of watching the championship series. This was a welcome change of pace. I didn't compete in snes but it was a lot of fun to get to know everyone. Commentary & Play-by-Play Thank you so much to @kingraph@Coffey @halifax @angryjay93 for putting on some amazing calls during those games. I wish more of the streamed games were broadcast louder to the crowd during the event b/c it was so entertaining. Also, I don’t know if @Halifax has been practicing his commentating skills but it was impressive to say the least. That gritty voice coming out when the intensity picked up … “Peter Sidorkiewicz is a house hold naaaaaammmmmmme!!!”. LMAO Seamless Tourney Organization With the way @halifax decided to run the tourney really worked for me. Then @smozoma& @CanadianDennis executed the plan perfectly. I will be interested to hear the Smoz feedback b/c I can never tell if that guy is stressed out b/c he is so cool all the time. I was happy to get away from the tier system and go to matchup calls Best of 3 for each match in the losers bracket Best of 7 championship series (including the player coming out of the loser’s bracket was down 1-0 for the best of 7 series) Preset round robin matchups saved so much time Also, each person had 3 away games where you could not replicate a team in any matchup you called was a great idea Homewood Suites Hilton suite – hotel was great and great space for exis The addition of Duke of 94 I would be curious to hear more feedback but it really seemed like a positive addition. Great idea to whoever came up with that! CONS NOTE – Honestly, this con list is more tweaks to consider than anything. I actually found myself backing over most of the points listed below b/c I’m fine either way. I don’t want to mention anything that could be taken as negative without providing a potential solution. At the very least, I’m hoping my input will cause further discussion on how we can make Kof94 even better than it is today Location 1. I am back and forth on this issue. Vaughan is a weird place. It’s a cookie cutter commercial area with an expansive cement suburby sprawl but without the actual homes. Access to the event or anything around the hotels will be an uber ride. However, Uber is pretty cheap in Canada right now and while the location was not the most convenient, once you’re at the venue, all you need is a lunch spot Potential solution – coordination of a catered lunch or preordered lunch brought to the venue at extra cost to those who want to partake (or make the additional cost a requirement for the event) I don’t think many would argue an extra US$10-20 to make that happen and there was plenty of room for a setup. 2. It would be nice if the event were in the middle of the action like Kof94-1 but honestly think back to that… the venue and atmosphere were great but the setups to play were less than ideal with all the small LCDs at bar tables. Access to sizeable CRTs is a huge benefit. The venue was a perfect gaming atmosphere 3. Also, while I wasn’t the biggest fan of Vaughan, what did I do in Toronto at Kof94-1 that was different??? Nothing. I practiced in a suite with everyone, I walked to the event, I played at the event, I walked back to the hotel… the only thing that was different is that I smashed a SNES outside the hotel 4 years ago. haha Venue 1. Food options -- It was limited but idea to make adjustment covered in 1a (I like the food truck idea that @KB27 mentioned) 2. Beer/Liquor At first I didn’t like the idea that it wasn’t a bar… until I walked into the venue and understood quickly how great this was going to work out. And you know, the no liquor thing wasn’t a big deal, I just brought a bottle of rum in my bag and drank after the event with mixers that they had there. There were other guys who brought beers in coolers, kept them in their cars right outside in the parking lot and would fill up to-go cups and simply bring them back in. I think it would be nice if we could get clearance for beer sponsored event or BYOB type situation (which I believe fell through at the last second) Recruitment 1. I think we all wish these were at the levels of Tecmo Madison and Smash. Unfortunately, we are a unique community since our game of choice is split on 2 different consoles. I hope people also understand that you have to be careful what you wish for. If we double the size, then maybe there isn’t time for a best of 3 out of the losers bracket option. More people will have to jump in to help coordinate on tournament day… It can’t be all Smoz and Canadiandennis! 2. But the participation level seems to be a consistent comment and if that’s the case, all of us should work on the recruitment efforts if we’re going to beef up the numbers at this tourney. Potential Solution Admins & community members discuss marketing ideas and how to execute far ahead of tournament date. Maybe it’s something as simple as making a flier and having guys from the target city post them in key locations around the city… hipsters love retro gaming (at least in Chicago) and they would make great cannon fodder in the opening rounds. Everyone needs some warm up, right? Reaching out to leaders in tecmo/smash communities for ideas on marketing and what’s worked to scale their signature events. Hotel coordination 1. As a group, we need better communication and commitment on accommodations moving forward. Large house Air BnB with walking access to restaurants would be ideal. I was happy with the suite that worked out at the Hilton but that was actually really lucky since I didn’t have that lined up until the day before I arrived. The issue was everyone else was an uber ride away so we just need to be better coordinated moving forward ..................................................... OVERALL This year’s Kof94 exceeded my expectations. @halifax I can’t imagine the amount of work that you put in to make this happen. I felt like there were 3 Halifaxes running around… 1 running the tourney, 1 playing and 1 commentating. I don’t know where you get the energy but I can’t thank you enough. (side note: what is the plural of Halifax? Is it Halifaxes? Halifaxi? or simply Halifax -- like sheep) I loved the fact that Gens, for the first time, had a top 3 finisher that was from the local area. Not easy to do with all the information that is available online. Big congrats to Nick for the way he played this tourney and Jaime was no slouch either. 2 friends that came out and could play with any of us. We may have to put an asterisk by their names though... I didn't realize these 2 use to play at KG's house 20 years ago. Who knew that @kgman's farm system ran so deep?!?! I enjoyed the time to meet new guys. The runner up from Duke of 94 with his gf were really cool people. Hanging out with @aqualizardis always fun and now the addition of his partner in crime, @AtomicRaven. I didn't get to play Atomic in the round robin but hopefully we can catch more games together next year. It was great to see that @KB27 Eric DL33 and the crew made it out from the east coast. Those guys add a significant amount of talent depth to our player pool. Congrats Voc Caged for winning Dof94... but next time, you play on the King side! @angryjay93 thanks for rooming up this year, that was a lot of fun being able to play that insane amount of exis 2 days leading up to the tourney. Thank you for always providing much needed insight to my game... it always helps. Also, congrats to @kingraph for the bringing home the title this year. @angryjay93 & @kingraph, that was one of the most exciting series to view and I always look forward to the opportunity to see you 2 square up against one another. It really is watching next level 94. @corbettkb @jer_33 I was happy I didn't have to face either of you in the tourney this year but maybe fate will have it for next year. Still always great playing some exis against you. So awesome that Chicago had such a great turnout this year with DPS, @mort, sean slapshot. Congrats DPS on your big wins on Jam this year! Hoping we can get Tom, Phil and the rest of the crew out next year. @smozoma @CanadianDennis -- you guys are the unsung heroes at these tourneys. Thank you so much for all your hard work over the course of the weekend to make things run smoothly. @smozoma -- ggs in our semis my man. I think it's fair for every 2 or 3 tourneys you knock me out of, I get to knock you out of one! To the SNES guys -- @kfed @annatar @Bob Kudelski It was great catching up with you guys. This 2 day format really lends itself to being able to hang out with you more. For those who didn't know, @annatar came to gens exis on Friday night at my place and then watched the entire genesis tourney on Sat at the venue.. that is pretty awesome. How about everyone's newest best bud, Mike Stanton "The Stantonator"??? For those who don't know, he is from Vancouver and came out last year to Kof94-III. He said that everyone was so great last year, that there was no way he was going to miss this year's tourney. Not only did he compete in both formats, but he fought his way out of the WC to bracket play in Gens and he finished 4th in SNES the next day! I hope next year we can see @kgman @Mike Gartner @ZEPPELIN198 @IceStorm70 @Brutus @kevincabarello @Edge of '94 Midwest @skoolyardpuck @LeifErikson @darik(cobrakai jersey) @HABS(forget the keyboard bud and come hang out!)... of course @Evan ... and hopefully we can get @CoachMac back in the mix. @angryjay93, please start working him now I have to say there were a lot of highlights from the trip and a lot of great memories made but meeting @clockwise has to be near the top this weekend and one of the greatest highlights I've had since being part of the 94 community. One of the great innovators on the site and longest time supporters of the community, it really was an honor. I walked into the tourney with AJ on Sat morning and we walked by a guy who was setting up a console. Without barely looking over, he says in this matter of fact way, "Hi AJ" "Hi EA". I respond "oh hey man" and continue walking. I walked another 20ft or so and turned to AJ "hey, who was that? I don't recognize him". AJ responded that he didn't know either. I think it was Raph that I asked and he responded "oh, that's clockwise". I immediately ran over to greet the man. So looks wise, he is nothing what I expected... he's about 6'3" and looks like he plays middle linebacker for the Steelers. However, his personality is exactly what you would expect... a super nice guy, laid back, everything that you've come to know about him on the forums or playing online is the same guy when you meet him in person. A class act all the way. My only regret is not getting more 2v2 in with him but I'll make sure that happens in future Kof94s. Post tourney 2v2s with AJ & Clockwise/Jesus

I always say my favorite part of these tournaments is hanging out with my '94 community buds and meeting new '94 fans. That stays true for this year - @IAmFleury'sHipCheck, @angryjay93, @jer_33 @aqualizard, @AtomicRaven, @smozoma, @corbettkb, @annatar, @Bob Kudelski, @halifax, @Coffey, @CamKneely, and @clockwise to name those I can remember. Always good times hanging out with you all, and never enough time. Other familiar faces from these events were BigE and KB who I've met the last few times, they are the Boston crew. Kevin Federline from the SNES side The Chicago boys, DPS (Deeeeetroit Basketball), Slapshot Sean and the legendary Tecmo Mort are always having a good time and represent a larger piece of the retro gaming community. (Apparently I really suck at NBA Jam) New buds like "who the f is Nick" (TK reference from stream) who played awesome and was fun to talk with. The Stantonator, who put a good run in SNES! Sean from the Duke of 94 was funny, Trent, Jamie T and everyone else who I got a chance to play, chat and talk '94 with! I really had a blast, and of course wish that more good buds could have made the event. Other feedback: Venue: A-. Waves EGaming was literally built for this kind of event. I thought it was fantastic. As mentioned, CRT TVs, projector screens, gaming chairs, PA system, drinks, snacks. More than enough setups! Nothing missing from this venue. I give it a minus only because you can't have beer there. It doesn't matter much for me as I don't drink during these tournaments, but it would be a nice to have for those who do. Location: C. Similar to what people said already, Vaughan Ontario is parking lots and corporate offices. Pretty lousy area, with not much around. Hotels were all far away, and for whatever reason we had multiple hotel locations. Good part is it's only about 15 minutes from the Toronto Airport, and there's a way to get there with public transportation. Stream set up: A+. @Coffey did an AMAZING job. 3 microphones, two games captures, switchboard, multiple cameras, etc. This is probably as professional as it can get! I had a lot of fun hopping in to do commentary, and listening to others like Hali, AJ, Jer, EA, etc adds to the viewing fun. I would suggest some more thought to the stream format if possible. Again, I think it was A+ to have everything there, but there can be some thought ahead of time to figure out a schedule of what will be streamed. That would give clarity and keep things organized as well. - Streaming Round Robin group play - Player interviews after a loss/win - Bracket updates - More in-depth player discussion during breaks (maybe replays?) - Quarters/Semis/Finals Game Stream - Post game I'm not suggesting it all falls on Sroka or whoever is handling the stream. I am just thinking of ways to keep viewers informed throughout the day in an easier way. Maybe an overall schedule and progress bar-type thing. Tournament Format B. * I really liked the new rule where you have to use different team matches in your series. I didn't think of it much at the time, but it was pretty cool during the tournament. * I definitely prefer a swiss (or similar) style round robin vs. the pre-selected groups. I know it's harder to administer, but I think it's worth considering as the benefits are substantial. With a giant screen display, it's definitely easier as we did that in NYC and Green Bay. * I don't have any good suggestions as to HOW to do this yet, but the tournament is a few hours too long. There must be a way to shave 2-3 hours and still keep people happy. I'm just not sure if it's an organizational thing or just the double-elim format. Definitely wasn't due to lack of set ups! * I like the best of 3 each round. Maybe losers bracket only goes single game until the semis? * Coin flip with team selection seems to work well. * Would have liked to have the suggested matchups printed ahead of time for people who don't know at each setup. Other suggestions * Sprinkle raffles throughout the day vs getting 'em all out at once in the beginning. It's a bit awkward and people are antsy to start playing. * Food options listed ahead of time. * Using the microphone/speakers (if available) to announce the tournament status, next matches, etc. throughout the day may have helped. * Identifying admin roles and responsibilities clearly, and where there may be conflict (admin also participating) helps. - Tournament Director / MC - Scorekeepers / Bracket Managers - Referees - Stream technical support - Stream announcers / broadcasters I had a blast. It's hard to get something perfect, but this was pretty close. If this place existed in the Toronto area, had beer, and managed to shave 2-3 hours, that's about as good as a tournament can ever get!

First and foremost, THANK YOU to @Evan, @chaos and @MikeGartner22 for putting together a successful tournament! In case you didn't know, these buds are awesome and everyone contributed to the success of this tournament in different ways! Special thanks to @corbettkb, who took the time to show @CoachMac around NYC, help out in any way he could, and just being completely selfless all the time. He even picked up the food tab Friday! An amazing asset to the '94 community and amazing competitor as well! Glad we were able to hang out for a couple days! Speaking of Coach, I am a fan and was very happy that he could make it to the tournament. I hope you had a great time, and that your trip was worthwhile. I promise to do the trip out to Nevada one day to hang out in your neck of the woods (mountains?) when I can score some cheap flights! As I reflect upon the weekend, it always comes down to the same thing -- enjoying spending time with the 94 community, both known and all the new buds I got to meet! So happy that @IAmFleury'sHipCheck was able to make it from Chicago and @kylewat took the Amtrack from Baltimore! I haven't seen Zep since Toronto; it was great to hang out and for him to show how strong of a '94 player he truly is! IMO, he is usually underrated because of his play style. EA, as usual, is great to talk to all day and I thought he played better than I have seen in some time! So appreciative that you come down and I cherish the signed '94 box that has become your calling card. Many many thanks! Great to see @skoolyardpuck again, great to hang/chat and play '94 with this guy. Hope to continue to see you around! @eggink444 and @da94wookiee came back from the '94 graveyard, and also hopped on for some great color commentary on the stream! Cheers to you guys! @aepurniet was a pleasure to meet you in person, and I think you officially ordered the first drink! Hope you had a great time bud! @Sdogg made the trip into the city and he brought the great energy, and was close to convincing his lovely wife to play! @crazygoalie33 hasn't missed any tournaments and seems to get some rough draws, this one included, playing wookie, Tex and eggink in the RR, only to meet eggink in the opening bracket losing a close 3 game set! @Bad Moon Rison , always appreciate the kind words and insights. You have run many Tecmo tournaments, from which we have taken ideas from, and love to see you continue to enter and play '94 tournies! (sorry to have knocked you out of the tourney bud). @banditra101801 (George) - happy you were able to make the tournament and even play in place of a no-show! Hope you had a great time! Finally, all the buds like @superfan99, Chris O. Matt, Ron D, and anyone who made the tournament that I may have missed, I hope you all had a great time! I encourage any/all feedback. At the end of the day we (whether us who ran NYC, or others like @halifax and @Edge of 94' WI) just want to make sure we're doing the best we can to make it enjoyable for all. Other thoughts LOVED * Random starting order vs pre-ranking * Modified swiss style round robin format, followed by elimination game. The swiss style led to some amazing round 3,4,5 games! * Buds who jumped on for streaming commentary. I will be making a highlight reel from the day to share in the near future! * Overall community, everyone is so cool, which makes running a tournament much smoother than I think. I'm constantly worried about things and I shouldn't underestimate you guys (all of you). CONSIDERATIONS * Handling of no-shows. Expected 1-2, did not expect 4. Also expected more guests. * Streaming set up. In short, I think a longer RCA cable will allow me to have the streaming/commentators a little further from the players. I also want the output to be broadcast for a larger crowd to see. * Add team and home/away to data capture for future analytics. While I fear over-complicating score entry, this has run very smooth for us in the past few tournies. Small tweaks to the scoresheets. Finally, on my own personal play, I am happy to have come out on top this tournament. My final opponents were Lupz, Tex and Zep, who, I feel, each could have won this tournament themselves. I got Lupz in game 01 early, and I knew he was not playing up to speed. It's almost like a sucker punch to the gut to start a fight, I was lucky to get one so quick. Game 02 went down to the wire, and 8-7 OT victory for me. Given our history, that was more of what we should have expected. Lupz played well and had about 2 instances when his player didn't shoot the puck! Easily could have been a game 03. Tex had just beat EA in two close ones, and I knew EA was playing well. Tex also beat me in the RR with an amazing comeback during our 4-0 vs 4-0 match. I picked VAN-DET and Tex was nice enough to give me Vancouver, a team he knew l liked (Detroit isn't bad either, lol). Second game was another speed session with DAL and WPG. Looking back, I was locked in, holding Tex to 1 goal for both games, not an easy task with those teams and his caliber of play. Finally, Zep was busting people all day, I had called his earlier matches against MikeGartner22. Game 01 was a disaster for me, Zep kept putting on the pressure and I couldn't get my Rangers to shape up. Game 02 was the opposite, where I was able to go up quick with Philly over Zep's Blues. So both of us had lopsided games to start, leaving a game 03. It was my turn to pick teams, and I went with Chicago / Buffalo, a high powered matchup that I like either way. In hindsight, that may have been a mistake since both teams have amazing home ice and Zep was home. Zep chose Buffalo and I had Chicago. If I lost this tournament with JR & Belfour, I had no excuses! Well, the game unfolded with JR on a mission! He single handily took over the game, scoring all my goals. I felt in control of the entire game and having Eddie in net was the ultimate security blanket. Proud of the victory, and though I felt like a boob for winning a tournament that I helped organize, everyone I played told me otherwise, so I feel better, Until next time (LI Retro Expo Aug 10-11th!)

Maybe he's got a point? I mean, we do see quite a lot of tournaments across the country to celebrate and compete in NHL 96. I, personally, love NHL.com's coverage of the anniversary of NHL98. And, my god, who doesn't have found memories, as a child, of dominating NHL97 with Jeremy Roenick? I mean, it's always great to hear current NHL players reliving their foundest momeries of playing NHL 2001. To be honest, it's really a wonder that this site exists given how much the game sucks! SMH If you don't like a game, that's cool. There are other options. I just don't get the point of sh*tting on someting that so many folks love and have warm memories for just because you see a deficiency. Maybe I'm the minority in my opinion and response. But, NHL94 IS one of the greatest sports games ever released! Is it the greatest of all time, not likely given its age and the technology of the day. Would it have been cool to have season mode and fighting, sure. But, it doesn't hurt the game. Did it make it's mark on history more than the majority of sports games EVER released, you bet! There is no denying it and to crap all over it is silly. End rant. Cheers!

I am crying happy tears as @Lupz27 and @IceStorm70 are fully registered to play! This means in addition to some very high level '94 play, there will be lots of 2v2 after the tournament! Also, recent Classic participants @aepurniet and @kuefner have also registered! Looking forward to meeting you fine gentlemen (unless we've met before, in which I am dumb). As of this post we have reached our cap of 32, though we are holding a few spots for some special guests. People can still register for the waitlist or to just keep up on the tournament details via e-mail. Anyone can attend to be part of the crowd. Very excited about this event and we (all the organizers) are working hard to make sure it's gonna be great. Stay tuned!

A while back I was curious as to looking at how players were rated in the original NHL 94, so as to keep my hacks more or less playing like the original ROM. I made these charts but never had a moment and organization to upload them, but here they are now. The zip files contains images for the distribution of each player attribute, skater and goalie. The groups are further separated by offense/defense, and starter/backup for goalies. I won't clutter up the post with all 22 images, but it's crazy seeing how low the overalls are. Nearly every backup goalie is rated between 40-50 overall! About 45% of defensemen are ~48 OVR, and about 30% of forwards are the same. Only about 15% of forwards break 80 OVR. There's lot of little tidbits you can find as well: -Fs and Ds aren't rated all that differently in most categories, but D are better hitters, with WAY worse shooting accuracy -About 80% of D have either a 2 or 3 on speed (FYI, original rating scale was 1 - 6, with 6 being 99 in game, and 3 being 40-60 in game) I can't say I match these distributions in my ROMs, but I think it's interesting to look at. I hope this is the right spot in the forum to post this. For a little over a year, I've been working on a tabletop arcade project. I decided to do an NHL 94 theme. Enjoy and feel free to ask any questions about the build.

So here it is, the 3rd NHL 20 rom that no one asked for, and delivered quite late! All the usuals from my roms, but to take note: -Updated logos, uniforms, arena names and rosters for all 31 teams (rosters as of Dec. 2) -Player portraits for all NLC starters -Speed burst set to 75% of original rom -Many graphical hacks such as backup goalies and coaches on bench, net cam, better uniforms... -Anniversary center ice logos for teams that are using one this year -Weight bug fix, smoz 3-star formula -known bug with 32-team rom -- GAME WILL CRASH IF CYCLING THROUGH WPG (TEAM 31) PORTRAITS ON MAIN MENU Please let me know if you have any suggestions or bugs to report! Hey guys, This is a special release that Slapshot67, KTup710 and I have worked on all spring/summer. Really, it began this winter while watching the Olympics. I missed the NHLers and I decided to make a ROM about it. This is the 32-team ROM, but since most teams are not that competitive with the big boys, I decided to mix it up a bit. This ROM is called IIHF Legacy '19. It contains 15 current National Teams made up of what would closely resemble the real rosters in a major world tourney, and 17 historic National Teams from different tourneys. The main ROM is a WBF-rom. I added a 2nd ROM that does not include the weight bug fix. KNOWN BUG: The game will freeze if you scroll through the USA'96 player cards in the menu screen. This is a known bug that affects the 31st team on any 32 team ROM, and is not currently fixable. This was a lot of fun to make. I've worked with the great @slapshot67 on other ROMs, and adding the work of KTup710 only enhanced this particular ROM. KTup did all the work on the implementation of logos, and he did some incredible work on the banners. @KTup710 - really great work bud, truly commendable in the annals of NHL94 lore. As usual, Slapshot did spectacular work on players cards, splash screen, game clock...even the IIHF trophy is there! I handled the uniforms, players, player ratings, lines, and selected the logos we'd end up using. Some Notes Where it gets fun is the Legacy part. We created 17 "Classic" Historic teams, with an added twist. You'll be able to play the Miracle on Ice (1980 USA vs Soviet Union), the 1987 and 1991 Canada Cup Finals (1987 + 1991 Team Canada, 1987 Soviets, 1991 Team USA), the 1996 World Cup of Hockey Final (USA vs Canada) and the 2002 Olympic Gold Medal Game (Canada vs USA). Also included is the 1998 Czech Republic team, first NHLers to win Olympic Gold. Including them threw off the balance of 16/16 classic vs current teams, but that's ok. The twist is where it gets even more fun for NHL'94 fans. We created 6 National Teams made of the original ROM's players, with original ratings. Some players had to be added to complete rosters, but the original NHL'94 spirit of the 6 teams is surely there. They're the Original 6 of this ROM :-) Players & Rosters I tried to make team rosters as accurate as possible, with jersey #'s and lines as accurate as I could find. I also tried to keep ratings "within the defined parameters of NHL'94". I tried to keep players mostly honest. If you know anything about my current ROMs, you'll get the adjustment. Keep in mind players may have different ratings in different seasons (ie. '87 Gretzky is the man, Mario went virtually untouched from orig 94). Check out the excel sheet for more on player + team ratings. I needed to add some players to complete the 1994 teams, which is why there are players who were not in the game on those teams. Also, I know Petr Nedved actually played for Canada in 1994. But, come on, he belongs on Czech, Czech needs players, and Canada is ok without NHL94 Petr Nedved. You'll notice on some of the Legacy teams that a players weight may have changed from their original '94 weight. I tried to make a player's weight accurate to what it was in real life, except for the six NHL94 World Star teams. I left those players as is, Tony Amonte included. Amonte is a lefty in '96 and '02. And this is the last hurrah for Jaromir Jagr and the Sedins, so they were included on the current National Teams for 2019. For KTup and Slapshot- we all hope you guys enjoy this ROM. -Skip IIHF Legacy '19.bin IIHF Legacy '19.xls IIHF Legacy '19noWBF.bin

I re-purposed The Sauce's 2020 ROM with Winter Classic graphics to give my kids something to do for the last couple days of break... Please note that it's really only meant for Nashville at Dallas as changes I made to the ROM have effects on other teams that don't translate. If there's any interest I could update to make the other teams with outdoor-style uniforms, NHL94 2020 Winter Classic.bin

I have been working on a smaller goal mod for NHL 94 on Genesis. I have edited the artwork to work with the code that edits the barrier of the goal posts and of the boards. So this is complete with accurate collision of the goal posts with the puck with updated goal artwork. There are several different sizes of goals. Here are some photos of the smallest goal: (updated 11/16/19) Playing roms with this goal size produces very low scoring games. One way I have made this goal size more playable is by lowering goalie glove ratings to create more shots that bounce off the goalie. Smallest Goal v1.1 ROM : (released 12/28/19) smallestgoalFBFF0000v11.bin Version 1.1 Notes: -Disabled the Auto Goalie Diving Save Angles code used in v1.0 due to it causing all players to be Lefties in-game. In version v1.1 the new Goalie Diving Save Angles are Off by default, though they can be enabled in this version without it causing all players to be Lefties by running 2 RAM codes during gameplay. (see ROM for details) -Increased all Goalies Weight ratings by 4 in an effort to reduce cheap goals -Made some minor corrections and graphical improvements Smallest Goal v1.0 ROM : smallestgoalFBFF0000v1.bin Here are some photos of the medium size goal : The medium version's posts are black while the smaller goal's posts are red because below the size editable in the goal artwork tile you have to choose from predetermined artwork by changing a single-byte vale. Here is the larger version of the goal done from the goal art tiles : This one is slightly smaller than the normal goals in NHL 94. Each version works with a different value for the barriers code and each of these versions provide different challenges with different goal post and board collision values. I have roms for each goal size, and you could start by playing the larger version of the goal then try the smaller versions and see if you can score. You will be blown away by the goal post collisions and when goals miss the goal on shots compared to what you're used to. You can look at this as a way to adjust the accuracy of one-timers and shots. On the smaller goals hitting wide open nets with shots will no longer be automatic. You will now have to place your shots and pay more attention to angles since the goal post barrier code has been tailored to the artwork. If you play on the smallest goal you should expect a lot of 0 - 0 games and if you score it could end up being the winner. Playing on longer periods and real-time clock is essential to this mod since the smaller the goal the longer it will take you to score. Are you interested in testing NHL 94 with smaller goals with all the goal artwork updated? Will it change your strategy on how you score? Playing with smaller goals will make one-timers more realistic because they no longer will be automatic scores. Now they will hit off the post more or miss the goal completely. With different versions of goal sizes you can play on the goal size that you want, if the smallest version of the goal is too small and you are getting frustrated at not being able to score goals you can use the medium one. There really aren't too many other goal sizes that are possible than these due to the artwork limitation. Any smaller than the smallest one it's pretty much impossible to score. But be forewarned, after you experience playing NHL 94 with these smaller goals and adjusted collision you may not be able to go back to playing with regular sized goals again because you may find it too easy to score. Playing on these roms will make your NHL 94 experience more advanced and strategic since scoring becomes more difficult with a smaller target to score. Note : Some of you may want to know more about the Goalie Diving Saves codes that I have put into this mod. I have included this screenshot to illustrate what these codes do. I attempted to put this code into the rom as a ROM code in v1.0 but as you seen, it had the affect of making all players lefties regardless of their handedness rating. So in v1.1 I had to remove it from the rom and offer it as a RAM code that you have the option to use. I want to explain why it was so important that I included this in the rom one way or another, because of what it does. And to better understand what these codes do, I have provided this screenshot : You see how the goalie is doing a feet first diving save attempt? These kinds of goalie diving saves don't occur too often if at all unless you have the two codes that I provided in the rom on. One code affects the human/p1 team's goalie the other code affects the cpu/p2 team's goalie. These codes don't seem to affect the goalie when manually controlled by a player, only when the goalie is under Auto-control. So this is in regards to C-button Goalie diving save attempts, but specifically when triggered by the CPU / Auto Goalie. That's what these codes affect and improve. As you can see from the screenshot, I was controlling the Devils skating right to left then attempted a shot. Normally this action would cause the CPU/Auto goalie to dive left or make the wrong decision and dive right which caused a glitch when the shot is taken : the shot would hit off an invisible wall where the game thinks the goalie is, but the goalie is seen diving to the opposite side. Instead of this situation, with the codes on, in situations like this, the goalie will often dive feet first instead of left or right. And unlike before, the puck now won't hit off an invisible wall when you take a shot, to the open net, or the side that the game thinks that the goalie has dived to, when the goalie is seen diving to the other side. With the codes on, sometimes goalies will still do C-button diving saves to the left or right in situations like this, but in those instances they'll be to the correct side more often and won't have this glitch. It's not that I've 100% solved the glitch from happening, it's that in general through the two codes, I've made auto goalie diving saves look cooler with these new angles and I've increased the accuracy of auto goalies diving to the correct side when they dive left or right which avoids the wrong sided goalie diving save glitch.

Thanks to @Puck Junk, here's a page from Igor Kuperman's original ratings for the Blackhawks. Interesting that Shot Accuracy isn't specifically listed there, but we know that was a direct link to shooting percentage. I also notice that offensive awareness isn't there (was that also based on a stat?) and fighting is there, futher proving this was originally in the game and taken out at the end. Here's his Tweet:

Amazing Game! The AI is excellent. Playing the computer is actually fun and somewhat challenging. The lack of manual goalie is made up for with amazing Defensive AI. They really clog the middle and while the deke is still a very good move it is not money or cheesy. They will often level you or force a bad shot. So much more of a Hockey simulation than any other version. Really has all the best parts of 92, 93, 94, and 95! Other awesome stuff, Full Season Mode, Ron Barr including speech, plus an awesome rink announcer, Anthems (no kneeling), USA and Canadian Flags, Back up Goalies Play, Varied and accurate center ice logos, Sound of the boards, goalie pads, sticks, pucks, etc...., better music, more dynamic and accurate crowd, guy blowing a single horn at times, Jumbotron including Fan Meter and other cool stuff, Ref retrieves puck and goes to box and signals penaties, calendar, 4 actual accurate lines, scratches and deeper rosters, 1993 season celebrated, Stars in Minnesota, No Ducks or Panthers, 3 Stars, skate out after being announced EA Sponsor, Shows total goals when a player scores for season or playoff not just that game, more accurate goalie pulls like when down 1 or 2, not just when down 2, visual line changes when players go on and off, dynamic crowd, announcement of 1 minute left in the period, so much more amazing game, an actual Stanley Cup presentation and skate with the Cup, Long Live DosBox!

REGISTRATION IS LIVE!! https://smash.gg/tournament/king-of-94-4/details Please let us know if you have any questions. We haven't used this site before so there could be some things to work out. You can participate in up to 4 events: Saturday: [Sega] King of 94 ($50) OR Duke of 94 ($15) [Sega] Duke of NBA Jam TE ($15) Sunday: [SNES] King of 94 ($50) OR Duke of 94 ($15) [SNES] Duke of NBA Jam TE ($15) There's also a $17 Venue fee, which you pay once but covers admission for both days. So for example if you want to play Sega King of 94, SNES Duke of 94, and SNES NBA Jam, it's $17(venue) + $50(sega king 94) + $15(snes duke 94) + $15(snes duke jam) = $97. Sorry we couldn't get it add up to 94. The King tournaments guarantee 7 games. The Duke tournaments guarantee 4 games. The 94 Duke tournament has simpler rules (no manual goalie, use any team) and is meant to be the casual event. The venue helped us put together some good hotel deals. Possibly some flight deals, but I haven't heard any updates on that front.

I pretty much agree with everything that @kingraph said. So instead of providing all the same feedback and suggestions, I'll just comment on a few different aspects of my experience. 1) Thanks I just want to reiterate how much I appreciate those of you that put this thing together every year. From the head honcho and organizer, @halifax to the bracketologist and data guru @smozoma and his assistant @CanadianDennis, to the awesome streaming set-up by @Coffey. Also, the countless others who contributed in various ways to make this event a success. Thanks guys! 2) Forum buds It was great to meet some more forum buds in person! Unfortunately I didn't make all the links between real world person and online forum bud. For example, there are guys that post a lot on here, that were at the tournament apparently, like @AtomicRaven, @aqualizard, and @CamKneely. I'm not sure if I even met them or not? I would have like to at least say “hey”. 3) SNES Competition Personally, I had a brutal showing. My KO94 performances are 3rd, 2nd, 8th... I don't like where this is trending. That said, I know where things went off the rails, and with a couple small adjustments, I'm very confident I will have a better finish in the next tourney. Unlike KO94 (2015), I was actually quite happy to see Mikail win. He is a super nice guy, and to see him win again just validates all the hype he got for winning the first one. That being said, it’s pretty clear that, unlike with Sega, there are more than a few different SNES players capable of winning the King of 94 title. Mikail has proven himself as probably the best live SNES player around. And Daf proved that Vancouver was no fluke, securing his second consecutive second place finish. But, in my opinion, SNES is still pretty much a toss-up between a number of guys. Which makes it pretty damn exciting, and nerve-wracking. Another interesting fact: for the second year in a row, no online player finished in the top three! (not counting Mikail and Jason as online players even though they may have dabbled in the past). I was trying to rationalize this in my head. I wonder if there are benefits to playing more games live, on the actual console, rather than online, on the emulator. The emulator might change timing, smoothness of motions, framerates, etc. I’m not sure the correct terminology. But going forward, I’m going to try and get some more live console games going. There aren’t many SNES guys around Ottawa, but @annatar is a short drive away, and @smozoma could probably be convinced to play some SNES (He’s actually pretty good from what I’ve seen). 4) The Stantonator! (Mike Stanton?) He was awesome! I chatted with this guy Saturday night and he mentioned he came all the way from BC, on his own, just to participate in both tourneys, Sega and SNES, even though he wasn’t all that successful at KO94 III. I was impressed by his enthusiasm, but never did I think he was an actual threat. Boy, was I wrong! I ended up commentating his series with Kevin and he took the first game in OT, then lost game two in OT, before falling to the defending KO94 champ. Like I said on the stream, The Stantonator really made a name for himself. Later on, after I lost a tough three game series to Mikail, I had to face The Stantonator! He squeaked out a one goal victory in game three, to knock me out of the tournament, and he went on to finish 4th! What a great showing. I’m happy for the guy, because it was clear that he loves the game and the tourneys. One last thing I learned about him - he plays live with Daf sometimes. So I guess there’s something to be said for playing live games with great players. 4) NBA Jam (SNES) I participated in the NBA Jam tourney. Although I like the game in principle, I don’t really play it. In fact, I didn’t even know how to pass when my first game started. But somehow I won my first five games. I guess I just figured you have to find a guy that hits the three point shot consistently. For me, it was Muggsy Bogues and John Stockton. In the end though, I lost to the finalists, @DPS, and @etevans101. I couldn’t even compete with them. They are great at shoving the player without the ball, so they get super-injured and ineffective. I wasn’t so good at that. I probably won’t enter a Jam tourney again, so I can focus on ‘94. But I did enjoy the success while it lasted. 5) Commentary At one point, I jumped on the mic and tried some commentary. I hope I wasn't stepping on any toes. For anyone that witnessed that, I apologize. I had the mic tucked under my chin so it sounded terrible, I have a monotone voice, and my humour does not translate so well to a live stream. But it was fun. If the opportunity is still available to me at future events, I'll think of a couple catch phrases, and make some improvements to my style.

Here's a few thoughts from a relative noob to the scene... Venue I thought the venue was perfect for the event. The CRTs, comfy chairs, projection screen to watch streamed games and the streaming setup were all top notch. For people looking for stuff to do, I would suggest staying in downtown Toronto and "Ubering" to the venue. That worked out perfect for Big E and I. It was approx a 30 minute ride and cost approx 35$ Canadian each way(which is basically free ). Food and Alcohol The lack of food options and alcohol kind of sucked although I think this could be an easy fix. I thought I heard some talk that Ewaves is looking into a liquor license. Not sure if that will happen. As far as food, I'd be willing to pay more for the event if the event were catered. Just a thought. Food trucks are kind of a big thing in the states right now, not so sure about Canada. But a local food truck could be a catering option too. Choice of weekend My only other mini-suggestion would be to try and plan the event for a weekend when there is a little more going on in Toronto. We looked into Bluejays (they were away) and Mapleleafs (preseason) but ultimately ended up an Argo's game. Argos were awesome but It would be cool to catch one of the major professional sports teams if the event continues in Toronto. Final thoughts I had a blast. Best weekend I've had in a while for sure. Halifax and Smoz did an unbelievable job setting up this event. Awesome to see all of you guys, KingRaph, AJ, Tex, EA, Aqua and the rest of you. I've only met Coach once but I was definitely looking forward to seeing him. I hope to see Coach and the rest of you at the next event.

Hi Everyone! The new hockey season is officially here!!! With it, comes a bunch of new ROMs. As I did a "pre-season" version, I am now excited to present my official 2019 season ROM!!! Here’s what you need to know: *Link for the ROM is below the in-game images. *The "Winnipeg Freeze Bug" exists on this rom as it affects all 32 team roms. *I created a new structure for all teams. Each team has 3 goalies, 14 forwards and 8 defensemen for you to choose from prior to a game. *This ROM is a “healthy/best case scenario” ROM. That means, most injured players are in the line-ups. I prefer it that way as it is more fun to play. *Many of the line combinations and D pairings were used or are being used (currently) during this season. *31 NHL Teams. *32nd team is a 2019 Prospects team (featuring Jack Hughes & Kaapo Kakko). *Kenny Albert is the new “Ron Barr” in my rom. Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated! If you catch any mistakes/errors, please let me know. Cheers! -The Sauce NHL94 2019 v5.bin Re-Uploaded - 4/8/19 (Playoffs Edition)

Hey guys, here is the UPDATED PLAYOFF ROM for 2018-19 season. Special thanks to @slapshot67 for his work on graphics and player cards! Below you'll find the ROM and Excel sheet. Excel is in the zip folder, which shows player ratings, "Skip's ratings", etc. Changes from earlier 2019 ROMs: Player rating updates based on this year's performance, roster changes, some new player cards, playoff brackets to reflect actual 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I updated every teams lines, including PK lines based on top TOI on PK for each team, last time but didn't do much this time around. Injured players remain in lineup on their assumed line. Notes: -This is the 32-team ROM (updated teams, logos, player cards and graphics by Slapshot67). -Updated team rosters for 2018-19 season (rosters and player ratings by Skip). -Hot/Cold is accurate in the pre-game screen and in edit lines NEW for 2019 ROM: Added in NHL Network's Kevin Weekes as the announcer. ROSTER NOTES: Some long-term injured players were also omitted (ie Stephen Johns, Christian Dvorak). 3rd line is usually a mashup of best players on a team's real 3rd & 4th lines. Tried to keep scoring lines as they are in real life, or how they "should be" when players return from injury. KNOWN BUG: The menu screen will freeze if the player cards begin to cycle for team #31 - Winnipeg. There is no known fix for this. TOURNEY ROM has continuous OT. The regular ROM has 5 minute OT. Zip folder has excel sheet with all players listed, including the NHL94 HHOF All-Stars roster, and Ratings list for all 32 teams. -Skip NHL19playoffs.zip NHL19PlayoffsTourney.bin NHL19PlayoffsSkip.bin

Hey Players! Its been a while but I finally have some news about Pixelated Heroes release. A few weeks ago I was approached by a start-up streaming service (in Silicon Valley) about doing an online Aviation News show (much like Philip DeFranco on Youtube). As we were in talks I mentioned Pixelated Heroes and I sent them the screener we have seen in Vegas and they loved it. My original goal was to get PH on a major streaming service and to be honest I have been so busy at work that it fell by the wayside. I burnt myself out getting the film ready for Vegas and needed a break, that's why I have been away from the community. But know I'm reset and ready to start a new game lol. The new company submitted me their offer to stream Pixelated Heroes yesterday, It is not a lot of money and by no means covers the production cost. But what they are offering that no one else would do, is to take my 4 Terabytes of extra footage and make it into enough small videos to make years worth of content to stream regularly. I believe this is the best for everyone, as a lot of you spent your time helping me out and I would hate for the footage to be lost on a hard drive on my shelf (there is a lot of cool stuff and stories). Including full interviews with the producers and programmers. So basically, they will stream the finished full-length Pixelated Heroes on their new site. Then produce smaller videos from my footage and release them on a regular basis. All of this will be on a custom page so its all in one area. And who knows maybe we will do a sequel! I will for sure let you guys know more about the company and our plan once the deal is signed. But for now, keep your sticks on the ice. Cheers, Mikey

9 House Teams… The White Walkers… The Westeros Hockey League… A Battle for the Cup Iron Throne has begun! WINTER IS HERE!!! I am attaching my Game of Thrones themed ROM. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS THREAD TO DISCUSS THE SHOW OR PROVIDE ANY SPOILERS! While many of us have watched all 7 seasons, so far, some may still be binge watching. Please don’t ruin it for them. We all know there are a few surprise twists by the end of season 7. One of them, is in this ROM. That said, if you haven’t completed season 7, and you are still watching, I do not recommend downloading this until you are done. One spoiler is within the game. Some ROM details: It contains the 9 major Houses plus the White Walkers as playable teams. As a bonus, I also threw in an 11th team that contains NHL Hall of Famers (the best of the best). Teams 12-32 are not playable. They are simply team #11 repeated/copied as placeholder. The playoff structure is set-up so the winner of the Houses squares off against the White Walkers for the Iron Throne. Because there are 9 houses, but only 8 can appear on the right/left brackets (see screenshot below), I programmed it to rotate every house out of at least one playoff scenario. So, in turn, no one is truly left out. All players, who are not White Walkers, are named by [Last Name], [First Name]. So, for example: Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Cersei Lannister, Tyrion Etc. This was done because, when you score a goal, the pop-up window only shows the number and last name of the scorer (and whoever got the assist(s)). That’s confusing if a team has all of its players with the same last name. So now, when a goal is scored, the first name appears (with their number). However, in all other game sections, you should see first and last name listed but in the order structure mentioned above. Not exactly a big deal (IMO). Not every character from the GoT universe is in the game. I only included those who are part of these major houses (both alive or dead). I apologize to all you Hodor or Brienne of Tarth fans. Lol Some characters included may not have been in the TV series but, they are in the books. As there are several women in the rosters, they are all defaulted to 144 pounds in weight (as we can’t go any lower). The team colors are based on their respective house flags/banners. Those flags/banners serve as the Team Selection &Center Ice logos. As the White Walkers don't have a banner, I found something that serves as one (a skull with a crown). Again, please don't not respond in this thread with any details/spoilers regarding Game of Thrones. Thanks and enjoy! -The Sauce NHL94 GoT.bin

I think for every hockey fan and player alike, the Mighty Ducks have a special place in your heart. The movie is pretty outlandish from a hockey perspective (players switching uniforms, no offsides called on the Flying V, it goes on and on), but it's a staple of hockey in pop culture. When I found all the great tools for hacking the game on this forum, I wanted to take a stab at it, and I felt this was a great place to start. The ROM features: 6 Playable Teams (Ducks, Hawks, Team USA, Team Iceland, Eden Hall JV/Ducks, Eden Hall Varsity/Warriors) Updated graphics to fit the movie 15 scale stats Weight Bug Fixed I plan to add Playoff mode (3 selectable teams, Ducks, USA, JV, and you play through the general story of the movie) More playable teams Player cards Blue ice Any bug fixes along the way Special thanks to WBoy's 30 Team Rom, TM Ref Screenshots, and NOSE Smozoma's various guides and programs CoachMac's steps to making a rom Clockwise or Swos’ sprite patch, love that extra liberty while making uniforms. Hey Mikey, great to hear from you again and see that you’re recharged. It’s important to set the time aside for that. I’ve taken a lot of time myself to recharge myself for the online community and I think I’m ready to start posting a bit again. anyways, back to the documentary. I think what this company wants to do with the content sounds great. You get to have the stand alone movie that you worked so hard on and other videos dedicated to other stuff that I think the hardcore crowd will really be into. I know I’m interested greatly in the interviews and would just love to have that raw footage available at the click of a button. i wish the money was a bit better for you, I know you spent a lot of your own money traveling, creating the movie, holding the two tournaments ,etc. I just want to say thank you for doing that. I know for me personally it has opened a lot of doors to travel and meet people from all over. All of the live events have been my favorite part of the nhl 94 experience. Who knows where we would be as a community without the live tournaments and your documentary. Thank you again a bud and please keep us posted on future developments as they come in.

Last night I fixed the Stanley Cup image problem on the playoff tree. The cup doesn't rotate anymore, it's now a static image. Well technically, it's still rotating 5 images, but the 5 images are all the same! So I reduced the size of the cup from 612 tiles to 124, saving a huge amount of space and graphic memory. The graphic memory was the cause of my issue after I expanded the banner image for the extra teams. So this is now my current working ROM. All the graphic hacks are done (I think) and the ROM is expanded to 34 teams that can be used in exhibition play. NOW, my next task is to start tackling the season data, trade players, etc. Current ROM: NHL95_34TM_beta_05c.bin

View From the Booth (Dec 2017) Dec 31, 2017 Welcome to the year-end edition of the official NHL94.com newsletter. We hope to keep everyone informed of all that is happening in our gaming scene, with a top-down look at events, leagues, forum happenings and Discord chatter. The view from the broadcast booth is often worse than some cheap seats in the arena, but journalists require a sweeping vantage point to see everything that is happening in the game. It seemed a suitable name for a newsletter that hopes to provide a bird's eye view of NHL94 and all of it's retro hockey siblings, so take a minute to get caught up with this edition of View From the Booth . Congratulations to 2017 Bud of the Year@slapshot67! [Forum thread] He managed to code a 32-team Genesis rom that allowed the community to create updated 2017-18 post-expansion roms. I took this opportunity to ask Mr. Shot67 a few questions. It turns out that Slapshot is not his real name, he's actually a fine Canadian fellow from Saskatchewan named Shawn. He would rank himself as an average NHL94 player, who has little interest in online leagues, preferring instead to play at home with friends. He's been a member of NHL94.com since 2006, but admits to lurking around these parts for about a year before joining and searching out modding resources on the forums. A love of NHL93 and NHL94 convinced him to join the site, mainly with interest in creating classic teams in the rom. As any youngster would, he admits to trying to take the easy road first, writing a letter to EA Sports asking them to do it, but oddly never received a response. He praises @wboy's NOSE program, as well as resident mad scientists modders @mack and @smozoma for helping him to earn his modding badges, but credits a lot of reading and ultimately trial and error for his modding successes. I did ask if NHL titles were his only mods, and he detailed an earlier attempt to mod the NES title Rad Racer back in 1999. He jumped at the opportunity to help create the 32-team rom, and would rank this mod at the top of his list of accomplishments. He works as a freelance web and graphical designer in Saskatoon, and is taking a break from modding for the time being. A big thanks to Bud of the Year @slapshot67 for taking the time to chat, and for ushering our draft leagues into the next NHL era. The year has been a mixed bag of good/bad in the NHL94 community, with great successes (Kingof94II - Vegas including a preview of McMikey's documentary, expansion of the classic Genesis rom to 32 teams, to name a couple) and some downers too (shrinking numbers of regular leaguers, the usual forum drama). I feel like 2018 could be a bounce-back year, with many members working hard to expose the casual gamers to this community on many social platforms, new live events popping up all over the country, and unique new league ideas popping up to keep the online leaguers busy looking for games. We've met some new talented players in this years Classic, some who have already shown interest in draft leagues, but we would love to see some vets crawl back out of their caves and rejoin the scene. As gaming companies continue to milk the many millions of gamers out there with micro-transactions and pay-to-play models - the retro gaming community grins with tens of thousands of hours of playable titles and sports gems with incredible replay value. In short, I don't think that the Retro Gaming scene is just for the nostalgic, nor will it be a passing fad. The next generation of gamers needs to witness the sheer amount of existing gaming content out there, and should take that into consideration before feeding the massive pay-to-play, or ad-supported game companies. I know some of you saw this on already but I thought I'd share here. This was from Facebook this morning. I was at my gate at the airport, sitting down for a couple minutes. I then hear over the PA system "There is a Super Nintendo at security, if this is yours please pick it up.., that's a SUPER NINTENDO!" Lady across from me says, with general concern, "I sure hope the kid gets their Nintendo back" I sigh, stand up and say "yes. It actually belongs to a 40 year old kid." This draws some laughs from the people around me as I walk back to security. I get back to security and the security staffer recognizes me and says"man you can't forget this. I loved the Super Nintendo!" Again this draws smiles and chuckles from people near by. Glad I was able to make people smile this morning.

On the Sega-side, the most probable finals outcome played out with @kingraph and @angryjay93 meeting in the final game, with Jay pulling out a 5-3 win with Detroit over Raph's Buffalo squad. On the Super Nintendo bracket, we again witnessed the ascension of a relative unknown (at least to NHL94.com community). @Jammer - KO94IIsnes was able to punch his ticket to the finals versus @Bob Kudelski and win it all with an incredible 4-3 OT victory. If you wish to relive the final hours of the tournament, including some great commentating and celebratory laps you can watch the replay on Twin Galaxies Twitch stream here. I don't mind the comments. The thing about making custom ROMs is that they can be whatever you want them to be. Obviously I'll never make a cent off doing these, and I'm never going to please every one, so I choose to make them along the rough guidelines of the original rom. I feel it's an important part of the game to have real separation between the big stars. More important however, is not every team being jacked up to the overall quality of the best 2 or 3 teams in the original. Most teams will put out a NLC lineup of players in the 70s in my ROM. The Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid will be 90s. The excellent-but-not quite there will be 80s or thereabouts. Playing the original ROM with mortal players just plays different, and I don't want every game in my ROM to feel like a game with the allstar teams in 94 original blend where nearly every skater is 80ish. Some things that do separate my ROM player ratings from 94 is that defensemen skate better and hit less, and the goalies are better. I feel this is a fair reflection of how the NHL has changed since the early 90s. This generally leads to fewer goals too, which also seems fair. Either way, a team in my 2017 ROM wouldn't be out of place in original 94. For instance, you look at Skip's ROM with a team like the red wings. They have 5 FWs 76 or higher, 2 77 dmen, and 2 goalies in the 70s. That would be one of the top teams in the original ROM. This year in real life, the Wings are a last place team, and guys like Dylan Larkin are looking at a 30-point season, yet is a 78 in that ROM. NOT IN MY HOUSE BROTHER. I suspect the approach of skip's rom is more popular for some whiz-bang gameplay, but that's not the way 94 was designed to be played. Neither approach is "correct", but I really like the idea of keeping original gameplay feel and team/player differentiation. Playing with last place teams should play quite differently that first place---not just slightly less good but still all-star quality players from the original 94. Again, otherwise I wouldn't bother make a ROM that just does the same thing as Skip's because there would be no point!
